View Full Version : Forum Reorganization
slickdeals
03-20-2006, 09:38 PM
We reorganized the forums to better accommodate the growing number of topics discussed.

Slick Deals : It is now merged with Hot Deals. Frankly, the community finds deals faster then we do.

Deal Talk : There has been quite a few topics that are deal related but don't belong in Hot Deals and get drowned out in The Lounge. It is also used for discussing expired deals that continue to have a lively discussion.

Announcements : Self explanatory.

I think it will take some getting use to, but in the long run I believe this will benefit the community.

"Free at last, I am free at last!" (MLK Jr.)
I am soooo tired of trying to keep my updates on deals in the Hot Deals forum and having them constantly moved to the Lounge.
I post 10,000 character arguments, to no avail with the heartless moderators here, trying to make my case and get shot down time after time. :crying2:
Mr. Slickdeals knows genius when he sees it. :D
Y'all may thank me now for completely exhausting the moderators' reply boxes & typing fingers and making them finally toss their hands up in abdication.:boxing: :chairbash :starwars: :swordfigh :stretcher

What happened to the 'help me find a deal' forum? That has been quite useful to me in the past.. review forum wasn't insanely popular, except for that beer thread which contained a lot of useful information ;)

I think we need one more forum, or at least sub-forum.
We need a separate forum for deals that are B&M only. B&M deals are much more limited than online because you have to have a store near you selling the merchandise. No telling how many deals I've been sold on except that I couldn't participate! Especially clearance deals at B&M, since they by definition are extremely YMMV.

This is an excellent idea, it was tiresome to have to wade through ongoing duscussions of Black Friday deals the following March. :look:

how many people accidently clicked on "Freebies" when the actual intentions was to click on "Hot Deals"? Anyone? I know I did..... and was confused for like 10 seconds.

How about a CHAT IRC, to cut down on the Posts being created in the Lounge? ANyway, I love this place.

In "figure-ative" terms,
the User CP area is the "HEAD"
the Hot Deals area is the "TITS", (as it should be, we're all here to "milk" the system anyway).
the General discussion is near the "NAVEL", which is apropos as we all tend to contemplait both from time to time.
the Lounge & Podium are where the "KNEES" should be and considering the attacks intended to wound in the Podium from time to time, also a nice analogy.
finally the "TOOTSIES" are Site Suggestions where we kick things around.
I'm wondering if the universe doesn't have a master plan, even for slickdeals.net?

Just out of curiousity is there any way to just look at new topics for particular forums for the last day. It would help me to know this as I am really only interested in looking at whats new in just the hot deals section, and only new topics, not new posts.
Currently the way i do it is by setting the filtering to be number of replies, decending, last day. Any advice is appreciated.

You can click on the "Thread Started" column header and it will sort by new topics. If you want the settings to be saved, modify the "Thread Sorting" options in your UserCP (http://forums.slickdeals.net/profile.php?do=editoptions).

 I have been doing that all day, it's a habit just to hit the forums link then hit hot deals. i kept ending up in freebies and was wondering why...
Do you guys ever think of allowing the end user to apply some sort of filter to the forum? Like if you're from NY, to see only posts of NY Hot Deals, and then maybe with certain stores. This would require some sort of restructure with posting I'd imagine.
I also think an "update summary" info page or something would be neat. Deal talk is nice but I think there are people who just want to cut to the chase. Like an FAQ for the deal. Did people get through? 60% report getting through. 30% received items. 20% of those are repped. etc.
There is some great stuff here, truly. But I would rather not have to read past some $1 sale for batteries in Utah or somewhere at some store that I've never heard of.

It could be that he knows it is available in his state (or even just his city) and it may be elsewhere, but how would he know for sure? He should say, YMMV in that case. Deals are not handed to the viewer in a neat package, sometimes it takes work to dig through them.
Or, if the deal is online, it's available everywhere.
An OP is supposed to summarize the main facts of the deal. If you want someone else to sift through the threads and present summaries...are you volunteering ;) ????
