Dumb question, do these ever turn into a real rep? I have accumulated some recently. I did read the FAQ, but it did not say the outcome of that!

It is not is the FAQ (good place to look though ;)) and no, they do not turn into green.

This includes:

a bunch of gray reps will not equal any green reps (e.g. 10 gray reps do not equal 1 green)

And if a user reps you while they give gray rep points and then later is able to give green ones, the original gray rep does not turn green.

:sorry:

just so that you know that the person appreciates what you did for them.

I just gave you a green one to make up for at least one gray one. FYI I have 5,000 gray ones. You just can't see them.

next time tell them to hold off on their reps until they hit 50 posts ;)

silly me - I just thought it meant they were offline. Now I now why my reps haven't increased at the rate they used to! I think it's sweet that noobs can give reps.

I always thought they turned green when the user hit 50 posts.

...........
Once you have a certain amount of reps, the ones you give will soon count & be shown when giving reputation.
Green reps can also be achieved after you have posted over a certain number of times (around 50 posts)

This is to ensure people do not create another account for the sole purpose of repping themselves.
