View Full Version : Check links before assuming they're OP referrals

I just got "warned" and 4 pts for posting a "referral".
Ridiculous thing is that all the moderator had to go is go to the first web site and see that the link is there AS IT WAS POSTED.
So much for trying to be helpful. From now on I post the barebones, front page web site and let everybody find their way themselves.
Oh, and something else. I pointed out the error to the mod who hasn't bothered to reply. Oh well. Maybe I'll FW for a while until I cool off. I know I'll be back, though. Love this site.
*Edit: I just realized that this warn level is publicly visible. Blow SlickDeals for unfair moderators. I'm outta here.

I am pretty sure the only people who can see your warning are you and the mods. I can't see it.

Warning levels are only visible to those who receive them & moderators. hoseman666 is lying.
Moderators, such as myself, do have lives outside of SlickDeals.net. Be patient.
Warning points become inactive after 30 days, unless said member violates the rules once again
Due to One-Post-Wonders, it isn't feasible for moderators to ask each referral posting member "Did you know you posted a referral?"
I wish you the same evening as you wished me!

Warn points are NOT visible to other members. I can't see yours, can you see mine? (Yes, I have some too!)

I also got a warning point before I was a moderator (and I deserved them too :sadwalk:)

I think that the link you posted took people to a website where they had to click on a banner and that banner had a referral attached to it. This link was posted two times before you posted it and they had been modalerted too. I guess you didnt realise that the link had a 'hidden' referral because you borrowed it from somewhere else. Tough luck.

OP, it happens to the best of us. And just to let you know, we cannot see your warning points.

I don't feel the mods should have to ask you if you were aware you posted a referral or not. The rules say 'don't post referrals" therefore it is the OP's job to be certain they are not:
A. Posting an embedded referral in the link
or
B. leading others to a site that then leads them to a referral
Referrals enrich other people. Mods have no way of knowing if that other person is you. I have been wanred (once) for posting a referral embedded within a complicated link. Note that I have never done it again. Once is enough to make you vigilant about such things.
Now you know. I bet that like me, you won't do it again. Warnings work.
