This neighbor of mine has these 2 puppies who always shit all over my lawn and then eat out of my garbage cans and recycling bin

Is there any law against this

I've spoken to the idiot and he always apologizes and says puppies r wild and he is trying to tame them, he also won't use a leash he says there his kids and he won't restrain them

If there isnt any legal way to do this I'm gonna have to spray some
Chemicals on the garbage so the dog goes away but I'd prefer the legal option more

Why do you have shit in your garbage cans and recycling bin?

Take a cue from cat lady and use the recycling bin.

Knock on his door and politely tell him that he needs to come clean up the mess in your yard every single time you find anything.

Try it for a start and go from there if it doesn't work. Tobasco on the trash will often work to keep the dogs out and it won't hurt them.

Nearly all towns have leash laws. I live in a tiny little town with very few laws, rules, or regulations but we have a leash law.

if you notice them on your lawn, turn on your sprinkler. it's harmless and it'll get them off.

By chemicals I hope you mean pepper spray for the trash or doggie be gone spray such as this. Otherwise you'll find yourself in trouble with the law. Like the others have said, check on the leash laws for your city. Most cities require pets be in a fenced area or on a leash.

Because he is scooping the shit off his lawn into the garbage.

If he won't restrain his dogs..and if he refuses to come clean up their mess on a daily basis I think I would move it from my lawn to his doorstep.

I would just move to another state.

Yes, as others mentioned check the leash law in your city. If you wanted to make a little more trouble for him you could call animal control who would probably check to see if the dogs were licensed and up to date on shots ect. if not they might fine him and would most likely tell him that they were not to run loose. If it is a law, it is not up to him to decide whether or not he wants to restrain them. Good Luck!

I'm in favor of the "pick it up and fling it at the front of their house" plan....otherwise, get a hose and soak 'em

Yep, yep. Long term -- we figure with any luck maybe 15 years or so. Geez, I fixed it.

Try leaving out lots of baking chocolate for the dogs.

I use dog & cat away in my yard (and snake away!)
I'm NOT a fan of folks who think I wanna have a free amount of pet crap in my yard, trash or otherwise.

If he's dumping it in your trash- you can get locking trash lids & then just unlock them to use yourself AND when it's dump-day. If that's not an option for you- perhaps building an animal proof box-type structure, and then putting your own lock on it.

I nearly ran over my neighbor after I warned her NOT to bring crappy dog to my yard. (she was a mean oriental lady that though hubby mowing it and my friends & family stepping in it was humerous). She no bring crappy dog my house no more! I finally got TIRED of warning her- I told her husband, who is apparently a normal average citizen, because she stopped immediately when I met him after work one day!

With her- I tried nicely telling her, hubby has to mow it, it's toxic & my boys actually use our yard. I tried all the normal rationelle- nothing worked.

I ALSO got very mad before I confronted him and did some research (what I do when I'm upset- I find nerdy ways of fixing the problem- usually ABOVE my competitions level). Apparently animal feces is listed as TOXIC in several cities & there are LISTS of what can be and IS in many various types. Not to mention that I cannot rely on pet owners this irresponsible to also be responsible enough to maintain their pets shots & other needs to be positive they are 'safe' for all humans. So, I printed out my form letter with a list of toxic substances... Apparently, it caught someone's eyes- because shortly thereafter, our city passed a law making it illegal to leave your pets waste in public areas and NOT dispose of it properly! YAY!!! I would surely have had her arrested after about the 4th time!

Anyway- back to why I almost ran over her!

So, I'm coming home after warning number 99- there she and little poopy poochie are crapping in my yard! OHHHHH I wanted to take my big ole truck and ram her and the little dog right down my hill! Instead, I always back into my driveway- so, I made it a point to swing all-too-close for her comfort to MY yard, I came about a foot from her before I politely backed in. She had the NERVE to ask me WHY I endangered HER life, while her poochie was endangering that of my family? Uh, because I don't CARE about YOU or your little poochie if it means keeping MY family safe??? You'd think that would have let her know I'm a little on the insane side... She HAD to push me though... Idiot. She was trespassing on marked land, putting toxic crap literally on my property & SHE is disturbed I'd dare to hurt her?

No poop in my yard in many years now!

Sometimes the stuff wears off & the animals start wanting to be walked back around here- I then will sprinkle it across the road, so they won't even wanna come up to the top of the hill where I live. I adore animals- their owners though, I don't trust, like or even WANT near me! Poor little guys. I wouldn't wanna hurt the animals, many of them need to be rescued from their owners though.

I think it's unfare I have to bear the expense and burden of cleaning up and providing for pets that aren't mine. I shouldn't NEED the dog & cat away- they should be responsible owners and pick up and provide for their own. Instead I buy pet supplies for pets I don't have!

yeah I would probably use a rake/shovel and fling the crap back on their property, aiming for walk/driveway and auto until they got the hint.

if that doesn't work, then calmly say listen either we can try to resolve this peacefully or call animal control

I think you should bag it up every day for about a month and a half, freeze it and then early one morning before daylight, go out and put the 40 or so piles of crap back into their yard.

If you'd rather not wait for the delayed gratification, just go to the local shelter or animal park and gather up as many piles as you can the deliver as above.

If you really want to kick it up a notch, just go out early yourself and take a dump in their front yard in a real prominent place, maybe after a large burrito and beer dinner. Or hire this guy to do it (see below)

Legal remedies. Yes there are animal control officers and laws in every city. Google your city and "municipal codes." But that's $250 to file a civil action.

When your neighbor's dog is loose kidnap and detain it in your garage then call animal control and have them come pick it up. Hopefully he's micro chipped them but you could always tell someone you thought you saw animal control in the area. Feign total ignorance otherwise.

Plus, it's a good way to get him cited for not only violating the leash law but also for not have the puppies licensed which he sounds too irresponsible to do. The big fines wont come unless the cycle repeats with animal control making repeated trips. OR you could take the pups, give them to a friend on the other side of town, and give them to no-kill shelter or good home.

Option C - revenge - will only eventually result in a restraining order.

Tell him that you will be adding rat poison to your garbage from now on. Tell him it's now up to him to keep the dogs out of the garbage.

Every time you find dogshit in your yard, knock on his door and ask him to clean it up. Every. Single. Time.
