the first post is justification that people ask their buddy's to rep them to get bumped up, this is crap, either do away with it or set people to zero.

Ignore rep points if you feel they are useless.as a test...............i repped every one in this post.............doesn't mean anything, just proves reps are useless.
http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?sduid=523&t=225267#Repping every post in a thread does not prove that reps are useless.
That's like saying:"I wrote "A+" on my term paper, that proves grades are useless," or,
"I stuck a decal on my car that says 'Nitrous,' so that proves horsepower doesn't mean anything."
It's true that individual rep points may not be 100% accurate, but overall, rep points do provide a general sense of how much (or little) the community here values the contributions of the poster.

we know reps are easily abused.. we're slowly figuring out these abuses and making changes.
ie, you can't rep a post more than 30 days old.

I agree with Xnarg .....
why not just "ignore rep points if you feel they are useless".
Just because something has the potential for abuse, doesn't mean it should be done away with completely.
Looks like you've got your reps turned off anyway, so you don't have to worry about someone repping you for no apparent reason.

We have also become aware of rep swapping between members.

30 days?
A lot of users prefer to wait until they get their merch or freebie before repping. That might not give them very much time. Also, doesn't that just encourage people to rep every post that seems useful whether it turns out to be a valid desal or not?
Doesn't really matter to me much one way or the other buit I do sometimes find posts older than 30 days that serve rep. When that happens to me, I just find one of their more recent posts and rep them via that post.

Thirty days limit is crap. I use to get reps for my old posts when people found it helpful.

I brought this up also. Some people wait until after the rebates have come back to rep.

:iagree: it should be as long as the deal is still good and valid. i was thinking about my freebie post that probably will not get any reps because I posted it on 3/10/06.

What if a deal is just so-so?
Shouldn't we be able to cast a reinforcing "so-so" vote to offset the overexuberent clickers who like to tell everyone their deal is either super duper, (because they have no clue), or thread crap the hell out of it for no good reason, (because they have no clue)?

Doesn't really matter to me much one way or the other buit I do sometimes find posts older than 30 days that serve rep. When that happens to me, I just find one of their more recent posts and rep them via that post. That's what I do now, now that there's a 30 day limit. And this way, reps are kind of being abused, in that people can't rep the post that got them the deal (and so are repping recent posts).
I think the time limit should be 6 months (I would say 4 months, but just to make it easier). I rep AFTER I get the deal to promote people to post things that actually come. Which means I rep for the most part 2-3 months AFTER I first ask for the freebie (that's when most freebies come - 6-12 weeks)

I too do not understand the 30 day rule on reps. How does that prevent abuse?

I too don't understand that 30-day rep rule. Especially in the Freebie forum where it takes some time to actually receive the product...
I also nth nerp power coming back

I too do not understand the 30 day rule on reps. How does that prevent abuse? Some people who only post in the Lounge don't have reppable posts. Reps are to be used for deals and help, not chat.
Most people have posted in the reppable threads at one time or another. Loungers are searching for those old posts to rep people, but not for the original deal.
I think irons purposefully is avoiding reppable threads so he can stay at -10

10th vote for nerps, cause im almost there.
30 Day rule also doesn't make sense. If someone posted something and it was after 30 days, I'd just search their latest posts and rep on something else.
But :iagree: to bring back nerps. I'm working my way up to 100 and would like to be able to nerp...nerps where fun and who cares if people abused them, reps mean nothing now anyways, so why not be able to take some away
Doesn't make any sense.
