I have 2 questions about reputation points.

1) What does it mean if I check my level and some have the little green dot next to them, and some have a grey one. What is the difference?

2) I tried to rep somebody, and it says I must spread my reputation before I can rep that. What does that mean?

2. You need to rep others before you can rep that person again.

1. I think the grey ones mean they are neutral, and don't want to be involved in repping?

How do I leave a neutral rep?

I thought you needed a certain amount of posts to rep and that's why they're gray.

neutral reps (the gray ones) don't count for anything because the member hasn't been here long enough or doesn't ahve enough posts

The gray ones are from new users who don't have enough reputation or time in their membership to be able to give a real (green) rep. Once a user has 20 or so (not sure of the exact number) rep points (or maybe it's posts), they can give reps that show up as green.

After 50 posts the user's reputation points start to count. THis is to prevent people from repping themselves up..

Seems to happen this way for me only sometimes, and other times I seem to only get one point. What am I missing here -- is there an explanation somewhere? I looked around, but came up short.

Ok... Thanks for clarifying! Is there a posting that explains this, do you know? Is there a cap? Like, a person's reps will be worth x when they have x posts, y when they have y posts, etc? Not that it's ultra-important, but I'm just curious to know how it's set up.

I have no clue. ALl I know is what I've seen through impirical reasoning.

i think it is how many years you have been on SD not how many reps/posts you have

The more years you are a member the more rep points you give. Two year anniversary will allow you to give two rep points etc. Also, the number of posts and or rep points you have influence the number of rep points you give at one time.

Grey reps are from new users with 50 or less posts. They always remain grey, they never change.

My rep count has not affected what my rep is worth as of yet ....

See the number under the person's name and information? It says "Reputation"? Click on it and you will be able to give them a rep point. I think you have to have at least 10 posts or something though, before you're capable.

They need to click on the little green square to rep, 10 points are given when they join, and it takes the giver having 50 posts before their reps would show up in the receivers rep count. They can still give them as a nice gesture for thanks.

New users often have limited powers. You'll have rep powers soon enough. :)

You cannot rep a post if it is 30 days old
You cannot rep a post if it is in the Lounge, Podium, Rebates, or Site Issues and Suggestions forums.

OK, I can't find the thread the dealt with this issue in the past, but I have to bring it up again. I really dislike the "you can't rep on posts more that 30 days old" rule. It has made me feel like I have to rep right a way when I see a good deal, sometimes only to find out the deal wouldn't go through or was a one time use coupon code, etc.

I had posted a question on a thread then forgotten til the other day it occured to my. I did asearch and here I had been answered and then some. The person deserved a rep but I could give one.
If a time limit is necessary how about 90 days not 30?

I totally agree -- I wonder, why limit at all? If you find a posting useful, and it's still available here, why should there be a limit on the time in which you can show your appreciation? If there must be a limit, yes, 30 days seems far too short. 6 months, or even 90 days would be better.
