Noob question, sorry.

Does SD currently offer email alerts? that is when someone posts a thread with certain words that match a particular flag, I get sent an email?

I see something in my CP that says, 'event reminder', but I'm not sure what that is nor how to activate it.

thanks!

when you post in "advance" there's a drop down tool and click that and pick the email notifcation.

I do not think so.

You can subscribe to a certain thread and get email updates that way.

before posting go to Additional Options on the bottom and under Thread Subscription an choose either Instant, Daily, or Weekly notification

Or you can use the search function and look for deals daily that way.

Sorry I could not be more help.

:)

hmm, thanks guys (and gals?).

Too bad SD doesn't have a pre-posting instant notification option. Would really help me get in on all those hot amazon price mistakes! :)

Check the front page daily and/or do a search. That's what I do.

Yeah, but I'd have to search every 5 minutes to get in on all the good deals!:look:

IMHO, it's not very practical to have a system do this, because one can't enforce how people word their deals.

You may be looking for a computer. A deal may be for a "desktop P4" - with no mention of the word computer in it. Or it might just list a mfgr and model number.

The obstacles outweigh the benefits.

You're just going to have to search to get the deals!

I think it would be a great idea if you could get some sort of alert via PM or email when somthing that you want goes on sale. For example I wouldnt mind getting a E1505 but would only get one if the 40% off deal and other stackable coupons came back. If somehow I got a PM or email letting me know that the E1505 had another crazy deal. But maybe thats just too much to ask

But it sure would be cool.

It's pretty hard to enforce a rule that says that posters must categorize and thoroughly describe deals.

You may want an deal on an "E1505" and miss out because a deal is for a "Dell 2.0GHz Core Duo Laptop," which may or may not be the same thing as what you want.

Or, there may be a deal on "all Dell Laptops over $1,000."

Or, there may be a slightly different model # on sale, which you'd be willing to buy but would miss because of one different digit.

Not me.... I just want a E1505. It would be cool if each user could list some of their own keywords of stuff their looking for. For example, if your just looking for a laptop, no preference. Once a deal hits slickdeals home page with a title like "E1505 Core duo laptop $500 AR" you wold get a PM or an Email. Or if you typed in E1505 you would also get a PM or email. Or if your looking for specifically a E1505 Core duo laptop, not a core solo laptop you could type that in and once one hits the home page PM is sent. Because it would be really neat to know RIGHT WHEN A DEAL HITS. Not after it has already expired.

I'm sure there are instances where this would work, but look at it from an overall perspective and not just your one particular product need.

Or possibly narrow and expand certain categories, like laptops, PCs, flash memory, stuff that comes up a lot. and maybe have an rss feed for those categories?

is there a way to subscribe to keywords so that when a new post is made it will email you and notify you of such a new post?

No there is not

Email Alerts (http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?sduid=70647&t=239338)

Please use the search function. It will save you time :)

Say you've been looking for some DDR memory, but you don't have time to check every post every day. So you do a search when you remember. Wouldn't it be swell if SD had recurring searches? You tell it what you're searching for, and it emails you a link every time/day that new deal posts match those terms.

it's really simple to just do a search on those keywords. going advanced on your search narrows it down. but....if you don't have time to check every post, will you have time to check your email?

Is there a way to get 'Rating' and 'No. Of Replies' in RSS Feed? If so, it will be very easy to right our own RSS Reader which can generate alerts when a deal is highly rated.

It would be great if we could get an email when a new Hot Deal is listed that matches a keyword. You could set up a favorite search and receive an email when something is posted that matches the search, like Ebay does. This would be very helpful to me when looking for a specific item.

hi Beam ....

there's a ... THREAD (http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?sduid=47603&t=239338) ... just down the page a little from this that addresses the same question

"search" function works great here ;)

I'd also really like to see an email alert function added. I use them at fatwallet and it works great for me. I always have a list of 5-10 things I need and have topic alerts for each of them. Yes it's not perfect, it's only as good as the keyword you choose but it's better than nothing. Who wants do 10 searches multiple times every day. Been a member there for 6 years and just recently joined here. Nice site but that feature is really lacking.

For example, I've needed luggage for 6 months now. I didn't have to search for luggage everyday for the last 6 months, I put in a keyword for luggage. Simple, not 100%, but when a topic comes up I know about it right away and go look at it.

I really like having the emailed topic alert. BTW, I still browse the forums daily, looking for something I didn't know I needed. :)
