View Full Version : Is there ANY way to replace the current SD interface?

I've avoided coming here because (I'm sorry, I don't have a polite way of saying this) the site appearance gives me a screaming headache. The colors are so loud, the bolding of the caps . . . simply trying to browse the forums is an exercise in squinting (for me).
Is there a reason why SD doesn't offer the standard, "easy-on-the-eyes" VBulletin interface (the soft blue one) as an option? You can still put your advertising everywhere, but it would make it easier for people like me to enjoy reading the forums.
I'm afraid I just can't stomach these loud colors. I've even tried reducing the font size, but it's set up in such a way that it miniaturizes everything else to such an extent that it is impracticable.
Maybe I should just do the RSS feed and avoid visiting the forums altogether?

I guess i've never found the look to be too harsh. They could enable different templates that are user chosen, however this board is probably heavily modified and not worth the time.

I'm not sure I'd describe any of the colors used here as "loud". But the feature you're asking for is "forum skins". vBulletin does support it, though it's disabled here.

all custom scripts have to be rewritten for each skin. that's a lot of time and effort. IMO time is better served getting this one set up the way its supposed to

Welcome to being a member. Now that you're logged in, have you noticed that the annoying ads in the threads have gone away?
As far as everything else you've mentioned goes - are you sure it's not a setting on your computer that is causing these problems? I stay here partially because the site is so east to use - and that definitely includes easy on the eyes. One could argue that FW has more deals, but their site makes me want to cry just thinking about the layout. SD has one of the better forum layouts I've seen.
So I'd suggest you check your settings or stop being so picky - 90% of the internet is gonna be uglier.
(butI do find it ironic that the guy complaining about appearance created a name that is in ALL CAPS).

What a shame. Well thank you anyway, I'll be on my way.

arjunsr . . . I just wanted to say that the site appearance is definitely an improvement. At least I won't get a headache from the screaming colors.
I had a suggestion related to this, and it is:
You might want to consider emailing members who obviously aren't visiting and/or haven't posted much to let them know that the color scheme for the site isn't as "loud" as it was and they might enjoy their experience more.
I mention this because the only reason I came back to SD was because I just happened to stumble upon a random post on FW remarking on the changed appearance of your site. I probably would never have returned if I hadn't just stumbled upon that post.
Just a thought. I still would like to see greater control over the interface (the ability to turn off all these little icons and see a more "stripped down" textual version of the forums) but this was a giant improvement, and it is worthy of your letting some of us who had simply given up on the site know of the changes.

OH WOW! You have skins! :D
Egads, you really really need to tell folks about this SD! I don't think you can underestimate its importance! Contratulations.
I am (no surprise) using "ICE" lol.
