I was just wondering the feasibility of having the server check whether a link was previously posted in the forum as well as the date the link was last submitted to the server and a redirect link to the thread that it was posted in.

Essentially a user'll think up a title, put in the blah blah blahs for the description and then a link to the actual deal - once the link is submitted, the server verifies the link to other links submitted within the last 6 months for hot deals and freebies (or forever in the case of the lounge/podium/tech support/find a deal blah blah blah) and then reports back to the user whether the link is new or previously used.

This'll at least give regular users the ability to check themselves for reposts...they've got it goin' on SA and it seems to work pretty well.

Damn I hope this isn't a repost :vomit:

we have a repost checker put in to freebies. its not perfect since it just pulls the link in the first post of the thread and there's cases where people will give a homepage link vs the direct link to the product.

its nto feasible in the hot deals since they're lots of different deals from the same place. say everytime someone posted a dell link that they got a repost alert?

Not necessarily an alert but just a secondary warning "page" based on the linked site...lemme get a screen shot of how SA has it implemented

gimme a sec

that's pretty much what we give for the repost checker in the freebies. it'd just generate too many false positives in the hd section. too many repeat links for seperate deals
