I am just wondering about this - I have plenty of reps from people who have not posted more than 50 times. Will I get the reps from them once they get to 50+ posts?

Only if they rep you again. The gray ones stay gray.

What are reputation points and what are those green boxes under my username?

Every user starts with 10 reputation points. You can give other users rep points if you feel that the post has been helpful. Reputation points can only be given in the deal, freebie or help forums. The best way to accumulate rep points is by posting a good deal.

You can view the last 5 reputation points you have received in your usercp. The ones with green boxes count towards your score, while the gray ones are not. The points that count usually come from seasoned users.

Negative rep points are not allowed due to abuse but certain privileged users are able to give negative rep.

so other than that warm fuzzy feeling you get, which I just got, for all of my 11 rep points and which I also get with my son's tigger soft toy in my lap, are rep points any good? for material purposes?
thanks

There were talks of having a rep trade in for material stuff like Hummers and gold watches...

Just kidding, more like for hats and t-shirts. Anyone hear anything else on this???:)

welllll.....technically you only got 1 rep because you came with 10. and to answer your question, you cannot do anything with rep points as selling and trading is not allowed here.

However, if you reach a certain level...like 100 reps, you will turn bold.

And....if you reach another unknown level, you may participate in this High Reps Club Forum that can only be seen by SDers with high reps. This will only happen once a year and last time it was on April 1st.

So, those are the perks.
