Sherlock is a absolutely brilliant TV show from the BBC. The three episodes aired on BBC One in July/August and PBS in Oct/Nov of 2010. It did so well in fact that they are going to air three more 90 minute episodes in the fall of 2011. So if you have a chance, watch this show. It's really amazing, we're watching the last episode of season one right now.

Note: It's a modern day Sherlock Holmes and is set in London.

$5 per episode?! :faint: Yeah, I know. But it's that or wait for Netflix or do something you might regret later (nudge, nudge, wink, wink). I looked for the DVD and best I could find was $23 at Wally World.

That reminds me I still need to watch that Dirk Gently movie that I *cough* stumbled across *cough* somewhere on the interwebz...

Watched this on Netflix, it's really good, even made me pick up a Sherlock book. Looks like I watched just in time, looking forward to the 2nd season on PBS. Only bad thing is that 3 episodes leaves you wanting more, but I'd much rather have fewer quality episodes than many mediocre ones. Plus the 1.5 hour episodes are satisfying.

:(

The new season of Sherlock supposed to air in late 2011 but shooting ran long and now it's spring of 2012.

According to the site, PBS has released the premiere dates for the second seasons of “Sherlock” and “Downton”. “Sherlock” is expected to premiere in the spring of 2012, probably around May. Ugh. But, for “Downton” fans, the wait ends a little earlier, since Season 2 of “Downton” will begin January 8, five months after the show has restarted in the U.K.

How does it compare to Midsomer Murders (assuming it's somewhat similar)?

How does it compare to Midsomer Murders (assuming it's somewhat similar)? Funny you should mention Midsomer Murders. I'm going through them on Netflix and watching all the episodes back to back. Previously, I'd only seen a handful of them from different seasons.

Sherlock is really nothing like Midsomer Murders so you can't really compare the two. Sherlock is a very clever show with some really interesting repartee and an excellent cast.

Take a look at the top review on Amazon. That is a pretty apt summation of the show.

three episodes does not make a season... i hope season 2 is longer I wish they would do more episodes but the reason they're giving is the show is very complex both on the plot and the camera shots, so they say they can't do more episodes with the budget given. At least they're 90 minutes long. :)

david moffet also said he can barely find the time to schedule the work it takes for sherlock because of how much time he puts into Dr. Who..

The game is (back) on — and so is Sherlock! In a special encore presentation, Masterpiece mystery! presents season one of Sherlock — three criminally clever whodunits that blow away the fog of the Victorian era as the world's most famous detective enters the 21st century. Starring Benedict Cumberbatch (The Last Enemy, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy) as Sherlock and Martin Freeman (The Hobbit, The Office, UK) as Dr. John Watson, Sherlock re-airs on Masterpiece mystery! on Sundays, January 15, 22, and 29, 2012 at 10pm ET on PBS (check local listings).

Sherlock: A Study in Pink <-- Season 1 Episode 1
The witty "Sherlock: A Study in Pink" reimagines the Arthur Conan Doyle sleuth as a "high-functioning sociopath" (Benedict Cumberbatch) in modern-day London who draws potential flatmate Watson (Martin Freeman), an Afghanistan War vet, into his orbit.

Well I can't wait that long. :pirate:

not really. they don't care about the timing. its markets. look at movie distribution or more applicable top gear. only when there's a threat about money lost due to pirating they'll shorten the window between english premiere and us. this is obscure it enough they can easily hold off on showing it for months in the us market.

I am sure a more mature viewership would wait it out but they definitely lost me. I was going to watch it on Sunday but since they aren't airing it I am off to high seas. :pirate:

they don't lose money. bbc is paid by taxes, and pbs is by donations/fed grants. its just idiotic reasoning of we'll make more money if we make them wait! they learned it with top gear. they've shortened up the windows considerably.

That's right, they don't get any ad $$$, now I feel totally guilt free (not that I was feeling much guilt ).

I know BBC is government funded but BBC UK/America channels still makes money from ads, correct? But yeah makes sense to air TG asap here since it's such a huge show.

An interesting news article today...

Producers of the BBC's Sherlock series, which stars Benedict Cumberbatch, have said they will take necessary action if the American production Elementary has too many similarities.

'We understand that CBS are doing their own version of an updated Sherlock Holmes', said executive producer at Hartswood Films Sue Vertue.

'We are very proud of our show and like any proud parent, will protect the interest and wellbeing of our offspring,' she told The Independent.

Ms Vertue said that CBS had made an offer to the BBC 'a while back' about filming a remake of the series but nothing had come of it.

She added that reassurances had been made about the network's integrity during talks and she hoped that their own version did not resemble the BBC's production.

The current series has been a huge hit in the States but is currently shown on PBS.
