View Full Version : Cleaning up Slickdeals?

I am sick of seeing posts where people say sh-t, and hearing about TR getting action from his wife. Can't this stuff be cleaned up? I would mod alert posts that have cuss words, but many times it's the mods doing the cussing. I just don't think that's necessary and some people are offended by that. It doesn't really offend me, but it gets on my nerves. Can someone please clean up this place or crack down on the trash talk?

If someone alerts something that offends them (and I get the Mod Alert), I remove it upon their request.

You really should MOD alert when you see anything like that. I am sure it is physically impossible for the MODS to clean up every thread by just looking for offensive words. Also, what is offensive to one person is not offensive to another. You should MOD it even if a MOD has done the naughty thang...:D

Thanks, but I think it would be better if there were more rules against stuff like that. I don't think damn or "Hell" are bad cuss words, I just think sh-t is too much.

No, I'm not saying they should scour the forums for every cuss word said, but if they see one while doing regular modding they should take more action.

I don't see what the big deal is about it.. we are all adults. well, most of us, heck, even kramer uses this sign and he is a minor (:addict:).. I'm not offended by the language at all.. its what happens in every day life.. we talk the way we would talk IRL.. not that big of a deal IMO. Personally, I don't feel the need to clean up my language, cuz i don't swear that often, except when my post is in reply to something that requires my swearing.

And on the topic of the word "shit". A friend of mine went to confession and confessed that he swore, the priest asked him what he said and "shit" was one to the words that came up. The priest looked at him and said "Son, shit is not a swear. it is something that we do everyday. Everyone shits. It's a fact. It's not a swear word, so don't worry about it."

I swear to God, that I am not making that up. So there, shit is not a cuss word, even a priest says it isn't.

the board filters are set up to catch unacceptable cursing according to mr sd. sh-t has been deemed appropraite.

as to the sexual posts in the lounge... IMO it can't be helped. the regs in the lounge have shifted quite a few times while i've been here. one time it got bad enough that we had to step in and fix those. caused a lot of headaches and lots of people left. the ones who came in afterwards... once they got comfortable with each other went down the same road except for graphic pictures, its more innuendo and verbal.

while you have a legit complaint, however, what offends one may not offend another. the trash talk doesn't offend me. what offends me more is people creating threads to solicit votes for their own personal gain. I just don't like to be solicited in any way, shape or form from people I don't know.

No, I think highly of the people who are nice here. I used to think highly of some of the lounge regulars, until they blew off my post and cussed at me, even though I made it clear that all the trashiness on this forum bothers me. It's their opinion, which is fine, but I don't think that was the best way to handle the situation. If I saw someone who didn't like cussing I wouldn't cuss at them. I just made a general request that either people try to clean up their posts or the mods crack down a little bit more on cussing. It's not a big request! And I will do what kel_be said and modalert the posts in response to my OP that do have swear words. IMO that was totally inappropriate. I can't control what anyone says, but I thought people had more decency than to cuss at someone who doesn't like it.

Imerson, if you are referring to the lounge then there's really nothing you can do. The lounge is where everybody pretty much talk about everything that's is not deals related.

If you see a thread that you think will be offensive (to you) then don't look in it. Sometimes the title will give you an idea.

I am a regular lounger and even I have someone that I don't like. I will never click on their threads nor will I ever reply in it. That's my way of boycotting it. It's easy, you can do it too.

Plus...if there are certain regulars that offend you in the lounge then just go to your user CP and put them on your Ignore list. From then on, their posts will be hidden in your view.

I just made a general request that either people try to clean up their posts or the mods crack down a little bit more on cussing. It's not a big request!

You're asking everyone else to change their behavior to suit your wishes and you don't see that as a big request?

Expecting others to censor themselves in order to make you happy is both selfish and unreasonable.

What if I said all this clean talk was offensive to me and everyone should put at least one cuss word in every post, would you see that as 'not a big request'?

OP, I meant nothing by my "needs to farking lighten up" post. It was a joke. In good humor. I agree with my buddy trancepire on this one. You need to realize that the world does not revolve around you and we are not forced to change the way that we conduct ourselves to suit your needs. I'm not trying to be a jerk, but it is a simple fact. It would be a big deal to change how I think and how I talk and that is what you are asking of us, and frankly, it is not going to happen.

But it would also be nice to respect one another.

When I smoked, I would respect others and go else where if I was making someone ill, or it was the wrong place to be. It was my choice to smoke, but I would repsect other people's choice to not smoke. In that same respect, mayeb we should think twice before we hit that submit button.

I understand that, and I'm glad because it gave me a chance to make it clear that there are lots of people I do think highly of here :)

I understand the use of vulgarity, I just think it was rude to do it in my thread. I know lots of people that would be offended by TV shows that I watch, so I don't watch those shows in front of them. I don't intentionally watch those shows in front of them just to spite them.

Some people don't have a problem with changing their behavior. I also wasn't asking every poster, it was actually directed more at the mods. :shake:

This is a community, shared by lots of different people. It's selfish to not consider the other people in the community (even though they may seem like a noob to you).
