View Full Version : Who is more over-rated? Bill Belichick or Tom Brady? (Poll #16/365)

One is lauded for his coaching genius and shunning any common fashion sense in considering sweat shirts as "formal wear" while the other one is billed as "one of the greatest" while strutting around in Uggs.

Seriously.

This question is sooo 1/15/2011.

Broadway Joe wore furs - he set the precedent.

For the record,
<- not a Pats fan.

how is belichick overrated? he's produced a constant winner for over a decade. he can win with virtually anyone as he and his ilk are great judges of talent.

tom brady is also not overrated. another winner. no matter who is running the ball, or who is there to catch the ball... he doesn't lose games, and, he's an integral part in winning games.

granted, i'm not a patriots fan but this poll is absurd. i dislike brady more, however. i feel like BB could win without TB, but TB might struggle if he played on another team, in another system.

Based on your assesment of them it doesn't appear that either one is being overrated in this instance.

He was caught cheating, who knows how much of an advantage he gained from that before they made him stop. Plus he sucked balls with Cleveland, but somehow that gets expunged from his record whenever Pat-fan blowhards talk about him. It was 6 awful seasons. Even yesterday during the pregame, they post Rex Ryan's record and Bill Belichick's record with New England.

PS- New England has seen 4 straight seasons end in choke jobs since Spygate. You reap what you sow.

Belichick deserves the praise. To win 3 (& go to 4) is an amazing feat. He takes average or slightly above average players and coaches them up into champions.

Brady wears Uggs? WTH? His last 5 playoff games have been terrible, exposing him for the player he is now - Regular Season Queen. Legacies are built in the playoffs (& SB). We may have seen the best he has to offer. Anytime the media crowns a player "the greatest" it turns out to be the kiss of death. Ask Peyton Manning how last year's SB turned out for him after all the talk of him possibly being the greatest QB ever.

I agree with what you said 100%....and I'm not a Pats fan either.

Sure, Brady has been bad in his most recent playoff games, but he isn't perfect. Even the greatest QB's messes up here and there!

Not just wears Uggs, but endorses them. Sellout. http://www.theepochtimes.com/n2/content/view/46909/

Can't argue with that, he can put together a team.

So ... are both top 5 of all-time as the media has billed them out to be? If not, then which one is "more over-rated" as the poll queries?

Now, I hate the Patriots. And, I hate bandwagon Patriots fans who have come out the woodwork ever since they were winning Super Bowls and have made it out like they're the greatest NFL or sports franchise ever. These fans forget that before Tom Brady came around, the Patriots were the laughingstock of the league. You used to say anything about the Patriots and perennial losers like the Buccaneers, Lions, and Saints always came to mind.

That said, I think Tom Brady has to be considered one of the greatest QB's of our generation. Maybe in the top 10 in NFL history. He's done so much with so little talent around him on offense. Think about it, what other offensive player has he had on their SB teams that's even has HOF potential? No one! To me, he's like another Joe Montana but didn't have all the talent on offense that Joe had. Brady doesn't have the strongest arm, most accurate throws, or rocket arm. But, he possesses the intangibles that can't be measured....that many great QB's possess. They just win and know how to win.

Conversely, I think Bill Belichick is over-rated. Do you think he could have won those SB's with Bledsoe in the starting lineup? Matt Cassell? NO WAY! He won because of Brady. A good analogy would be Shanahan and Elway. After the Broncos won those SB's (two in a row), Shanahan was heralded as a genius. However, what has he done since Elway retired? NOTHING!

Back when the Patriots were winning SB's, they had a very formidable defense that was led by very good veterans who were very intelligent leaders on the defense. Also, and Patriots fans may vehemently deny this, the Patriots' practice of recording their opponents' sidelines must have helped them. Remember that in all three of their SB wins, they won by a mere FG in every game.

Now, stealing your opponents' signals can benefit you a few plays in a game at the least. Wouldn't that account for a FG per game at least? Sure. And, that's the difference right there. Since they were caught, what have the Patriots done? They've been great regular season teams with high powered offenses. But, their defense isn't very good anymore. I wonder why?

i'm a pats hater, and colts fan.

that said, as to belli's coaching prowess, we'll never know. sometimes he has players making plays, sometimes great coordinators and could also be said has the perfect system set up so that can happen and for some of the biggest games he had a perfect plan in place. there are other times he stunk at coaching, when he didn't have the great players/coordinators he didn't win,

that said brady is begrudgingly an all time great. his first wasn't won because of him. if manning had that type of d/schedule/tuck rule game he'd have won too. but brady is cerebral (one report had him knowing d's so great that if your db screws up he won't throw that way because he knows he'd be covered) accurate, and doesn't turn it over. 36-4 td to int ratio this year, 2 int's in week 2 is just insane.

i am glad that the pats have missed the playoffs after an 11-5 season, lost their last 3 playoff games, and brady/belli are just 4-5 in the playoffs after starting 10-0

Yeah, I'm not saying that Belichick is a horrible coach. I still think he's a good coach. But, I don't think he's as great as what many ppl believe or used to believe.

I have to agree with you that Brady's numbers this year was out of this world!

We have those bandwagon jumpers all over the place here. It seems like overnight, there were patriots fans coming out of the woodwork after they won the super bowl. Same thing happened when the red sux finally won a world series. All of a sudden you have a bunch of people wearing the hats, and having the bumper stickers. Where were they a couple of years ago when your teams were shitty? Now that they are shitty again, they seem to be going back under their bridges.

The Jets have 3 of Brady's 5 picks this year. And, only 2 coaches in the league are running a 46 defense right now, Rex and Mangini (with Rob Ryan running it as DC, expect the Cowboys to use it next year). They combined to win 3 out of 4 games against the Pats this year. If Buddy Ryan had more kids the Pats wouldn't have made the playoffs.

Given Bill's faceflop in leading the Super Bowl-favored Patriots in the playoffs and then narrowing avoiding being responsible for suffering the worst AFC lost in Pro Bowl history, I think the choice is being a little more obvious ...
