why in the hell do all threads default to "chat" if you preview them?????????

The whole chat thread business is a hack to normal vBulletin functionality. I would imagine that Lounge threads are configured to default to Chat by simply making the page load with that option already selected. The side effect would be that every time the page is reloaded (such as when you preview) it gets reset.
