So I log into my old steam account to re-live Portal. Everything works great for a week, until last night when it asks me for my password. Which I forgot.
1) I have steam send me a verification code.. but it also wants a farking secret answer which I don't know.
fine, so I'll just goto:
2) Try to logon to steam, I give them my email/user name and all I get is: "We could not find an account with that username or email address "
WTF?
So I can't even create a farking trouble ticket!

So I was able to create an account WITH THE SAME NAME AS MY OLD ACCOUNT. Ugh.
At least now I'm gonna be able to ask a question.
Gee, I never had this problem with all my other disk based games in the 80s and 90s.

Trouble ticket submitted w/ CD-Key for verification.
So so so bass akwards. I've seen mom/pop websites that have easier password retrieval options, or or... or.. get this.. A PHONE CSR SUPPORT STAFF

Mike, is the account you created on the Support side of Steam? My guess is that it is, since Steam game accounts are separate from Steam support accounts. I had a similar confusion the first time I tried to contact Steam Support last year.
HTH.

So you forget your steam password and verification information for your account and you're angry at Steam? I think your anger is directed in the wrong direction....

Don't forget your answer to the secret question and remember your password, problem solved. Steam is fantastic, it's the idiots that portray Steam as a bad thing.

Steam support accounts are different from "regular" steam accounts. It says it in multiple places. Right on the login screen, you have this:
If you have not yet created a unique Steam Support account for the Steam Support system, you can do so by clicking Create Account button below. Your Steam Support account is a separate account from your Steam or Forum account. It does not exist by default. Please do not attempt to enter your Steam account information for the Steam Support system, as it will not work.
Oh, what reading will get you...

Yup, I ran into the same confusion a while back. But this is so stupid though. If you dont remember your password to 1 account, what's the chance of trying to remember for 2 separate accounts? That's just adding more to the confusion. To begin with, I've never seen any sites that have a separate support account than your regular account besides from steam for good reasons. Just because steam does it doesn't make it right

If you lose access to your steam account, you'd lose access to support as well. Most people will only create a support account when they need support (like in the case of a lost password). What would the point be of making both of the accounts the same, when you can't log into the main one to begin with?

Still no update to my ticket. 48 hours w/o being able to enjoy my games is utter BS IMO.

Dude, zero people in this forum are going to feel bad for you because you forgot your password.

I asked for my password to be resent/reset via the Steam launcher. Steam emails me a random word....BUT also says I need to answer this question as well: "What did customer support last reset your passphrase to? "
I guess you don't see the paradox: "cant remember your password ey? well no problem we can fix it....if you can remember your password"
This thread talks about it in detail:

It's a broken system. All the NUMEROUS other online accounts I use, if I forget my password, I have them reset it with a link sent to my email account and BOOM, I'm back in business in under 5 minutes.
I guess w/ Steam I have to take a picture of the Ticket # and a Serial # of a game I own and attach it to the ticket request. What's this crap? What's next, I'll need to setup a webcam for facial recognition before I can play my own games which I paid for?
