View Full Version : Quotes getting messed up...

I've noticed that quite a few times the quotes are getting messed up when one replies to the other person's posts.

Something that we are doing wrong or is it a bug in vBulletin?

I've noticed that there are random quote marks all over the place. Is this just me?

I have seen this as well for about a month now.

Here is a screen shot (http://forums.slickdeals.net/attachment.php?attachmentid=15769&stc=1&d=1153142341) You should be able to see four quotation marks misplaced.

It came from this thread (http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?sduid=70647&t=287414), post 13.

What browser and OS? Doesn't happen in Opera/WinXP.

Edit: Is it every time, or just occasionally? Looked fine in FF 1.5.0.4, but bugged out the same way in IE6.

It only occurs in IE 6.0 as well for me.

The screen shots only seem to be in one thread and it is now locked. Has this happened anywhere else?

I see it in that post as well, but I don't see it in the others Pig listed. I use Win 2000 Pro.

No, it does that automatically. In one post Pig quoted me and then Virginia_Nasty quoted that same post and it made it look like I said what Pig said. None of us edited the code at all. Well I did on one post so it wouldn't look like that.

When one person breaks the tag and you quote it, the next person replying will get the same bad tags. I quoted this post (http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?p=3300311#post3300311) and it works as expected.

Something odd with IE6. I'll have to look into it.

I guess that makes sense because the system probably looks for the first quote in the message and deletes the other ones.

When he deleted the last part of her post from the quote, he most likely also deleted the [/quote] to close the quote. This happens a lot on most forums.

:iagree: It has to do with browser. Full/Complete Refresh it.

Never have that problem.

When the signatures were clipped to only 500 characters/180 pixels long, I guess this started to occur. Even though you can't see past 180 pixels somehow the quotation marks from the quote box will remain in IE6.

Example:

Look at this user's signature (http://forums.slickdeals.net/attachment.php?attachmentid=15809&stc=1&d=1153206754) ______ SD url link (http://forums.slickdeals.net/member.php?u=15401)

Obviously the signature is too long and got clipped.

Here is a post from Hot Deals (http://forums.slickdeals.net/attachment.php?attachmentid=15810&stc=1&d=1153206754). You see part of one quote box cut in half and 3 floating quotation marks.

Cutting and pasting the two quote boxes from the original signature onto the hot deals page you see it is a direct match like this (http://forums.slickdeals.net/attachment.php?attachmentid=15811&stc=1&d=1153206754)

Cutting and Pasting just the lightest gray part of the two quote boxes makes it more evident as seen here (http://forums.slickdeals.net/attachment.php?attachmentid=15812&stc=1&d=1153206754)
