Can anyone really believe the Pope is serious about continued sexual abuse within the Catholic Church. It continues to look unlikely and is again evidenced by the appointment of Charles Chaput as the incoming head of the troubled Philadelphia archdiocese. Amid scalding evidence from a Philadelphia grand jury, the former leader of the archdiocese Cardinal Justin Rigali, resigned under pressure due to findings that the archdiocese was a maven for harboring sexually abusive priests. Pope Benedict XVI accepted Justin's resignation only to appoint another church official to oversee Philadelphia's 1.5 million Roman Catholics that has a less than stellar track record in attempting to seriously curb abusive priests and show support for their victims.
