I thought there was going to be some SD rule about TC and putting a thumns down to a thread w/o posting a reason.

Anyway it would be nice to see who thumbs up and who thumbs downed a thread like the persons name shows in polls you vote for. I have often seen 5 thumbs down on a thread that has maybe 3 reply posts (none of them being negative). If people were no longer anonymous when giving the thread a rating it may stop them deliberately Thread crapping.

I think that is actually a good idea. I've seen threads with a couple thumbs down for no apparent reason...the deal wasn't bad or anything. If it wasn't so anonymous people might take more consideration before threadcrapping.

However, I can see that it might stop people from voting thumbs down on a bad deal because they don't want the OP to know they personally didn't like the deal.

If you can post valid reasons for a deal being bad then why be worried who knows who they are. People can no longer NERP because they dont like someone so its not like youd lose rep points or something. Also if you repeatedly see the same person thumbs downing w/o giving a valid reason to a thread you will know what value to put on that persons opinions in the future.

:iagree:

If someone has a legitimate reason to thumbs down a post they shouldn't mind people knowing. If they won't vote thumbs down because they don't want the op or someone else to know, they might not have a valid reason.

Deals are posted for the benefit of the community, but for someone not familiar with the value of an item, feedback is sometimes the only indicator of whether it's really a good deal. A thumbs down with no explanation offers little help, but a reason helps people know why it might not be a good deal.

It would definitely cut down on spite votes.

Let Mr. SD know. He's the only one who can see that information. This can only be used if a thumbs down voter does not state any reasoning what so ever. A great example is no replies & a thumbs down shown.

I actually can't see thumbs down ratings in the main posting list anymore.. I will click on a thread only to see it have 1-2 thumbs down as a rating, but I didn't see it until I was in the thread. I see the thumbs up before I enter a thread.. Odd.
