The rear hatch of my X5 has a 65" LED monitor which is a drag to use on subways.

4 or 5 inches i think. I'd say it's worth it. Consider this. I pay for cable at home, but having a job keeps me away a considerable amount of time. My smartphone allows me to watch the stuff I would be watching on TV at home using my internet/cable. So while it costs me 264 a year for the data to stream these movies/programs, I am doubling the value of my internet/cable at home by sending it to my smart phone.

Like if you're waiting at the dr office or something. You can play on it. It's nice to be able to look up stuff when you're not at home and want to. Like maybe where to eat or research a purchase that you're thinking about.

No, it doesn't make me feel important, it keeps me organized.

Email, Contacts, Calendar, ToDos, GPS and thousands upon thousands of apps that can be used for anything for small gaming to pass the time, increase productivity, look up restaurants and even book reservations.. etc.

My question to the troll OP: Why wouldn't you use a smartphone?

Because I can do all that and more WITHOUT one. I think most smart phone users accept mediocrity. You cant get around you are living your life on a small screen, paying hundreds a year and having to carry around a huge ugly device. With questionable security.

First of in most states it's illegal to use while driving!

When I'm walking... I'm walking

At a resturant... I eat, look and talk to other people. It would be rude to have my head buried in a smart phone.

Also...FYI to all in here...there is only 1 phone on the market with a 5 inch screen (someone answered 4-5 inches). Most new ones are 4 to 4.3....most of what we have in our pockets right now (unless you bought in the last 4 months) would be 3.5 (iPhone) to 4 (everything else)

If you had a folder...would it be better to carry 1 sheet of paper or a stack of post it notes? The very thin piece of paper would make things much more simplistic and since H / W were not important since we had to carry the whole folder anyway...

No TV at work except in the break room.

But I think we've all overlooked the real reason for smartphones here, and the real reason any amount makes it worth it......Angry birds. :whee:
Aww, we don't have a TV in the office at all :sadwalk:
Wow that's really plugged in 24/7 would you have withdrawals if you had to read a magazine at the office instead? This is all interesting to see what people value.
Look, I really want to be on your side (sorta). I think it is ridiculous when I see people with their eyes glued to their phones all the time. I just posted in the iPhone 5 thread about how I don't want to blow my money every month on a fancy phone.

But if I had one, I sure as heck would be playing with it while in a waiting room (actually, I think you are usually not even supposed to have phones turned on there, so maybe not), or any other places where I have to sit around and waste time waiting. I don't want to touch anything when I am at a doctor's office, so no I don't want to read through their magazines (most of which do not interest me).

I think I would happily take it out so my boyfriend and I could look at stuff on there while waiting for a table at a restaurant, or if we got somewhere really early before a movie starts. As much as I don't want to spend the money on it, I really think it would be awesome to have one.

I do agree that people need to take a break from them. I saw a young couple holding hands in a restaurant a couple weeks ago, and the guy was actually holding his phone in the same hand that he was using to hold hands with his girlfriend. I hate seeing a group of people out at a dinner, and some (or most) of them playing on their phones instead of enjoying eachother's company.

All so I can have 24/7 access to a 4"screen with less security and more privacy invasion.

My smartphone was $75 (not hundreds). I don't pay for data (also not hundreds).

I have nothing on my phone that would be an invasion of privacy either, unless you count my app that documents my bowel movements, but hell, I'd tell anyone that would listen about my poop, hardly private.

Huh? My smartphone's GPS blows away any stand alone GPS I've tried. The screen is no smaller than most of them, I'm not carrying an extra device, it weighs less than a standalone GPS, I can google the name of a place and get directions there (without having to type in an address, though with no data plan clearly you can only ever go to places you know how to get to or have the address to handy). I can navigate to any contact in my address book, rather than needing to carry a separate address book and typing in the address.

Well OP, I told you what my total bill was, and you never responded.

How much is YOUR total bill per month? :)

Also, do you have a landline? Do you have cable TV? How much do you pay for those, if you have them?

My bill is $112 for 4 phones with Unlimited Text and free M2M calls to any carrier. Still too high if you ask me but my wife NEEDS the texting and I like it from an emergency perspective.

I pay around $130 for HD DVR+ Cable Modem+ Digital Telephone through COX .

I have 2 laptops and 3 desktops in the house and a laptop with me pretty much 24/7 if needed to do look ups.

Text Google and you can get just about any look up you need via text for free.

It is a lot easier. You've never even actually used one, have you?

It's that hard to type 10 digits? LOL

I've used many Smart Phones always underwhelmed. Glad I'm not addicted to them.

I think you're just so intent on going against the grain (even though it's illogical, cumbersome, less convenient, and provides no actual benefit to you) so you can delude yourself into feeling "unique" and "special."

In fact, you're so hellbent on going against anything with any sort of mass popularity so you can be "different" that you actually make yourself believe that the crap you have is somehow "better."

And the funniest part about that is that it makes you so angry, you have to lash out at anyone that uses the devices that you hate so much. Which in turn makes you look like a complete idiot to everyone else because of your gigantic delusions, and then you become a social pariah.

I am important, duh. However, I only spend $37/month after tax for my ED 450 plan through Sprint (awesome retentions deal) and I spent 80 on my phone

I don't pay for my cable with all of the tiers, land line with all of the features (even unlimited long distance), hd dvr, 50 meg internet, rental fees for the equipment, etc etc.

Which is all comped by hubby's company, including his cell phone.

So ha! Have fun with your cable bill :harhar:

Sounds to me like he has a shitty laptop and a shitty cell phone.

My laptop I'm using is a Sony i3... It stands up to any other laptop I've seen recently rather well. far from shitty.

My phone is a good................................................. phone.

4 or 5 inches i think. I'd say it's worth it. Consider this. I pay for cable at home, but having a job keeps me away a considerable amount of time. My smartphone allows me to watch the stuff I would be watching on TV at home using my internet/cable. So while it costs me 264 a year for the data to stream these movies/programs, I am doubling the value of my internet/cable at home by sending it to my smart phone.

wrong question. right question: Is no screen good for entertainment? Answer: no. Something > Nothing

ok im confused. i quit. someone pm what the ? was and what the ...answer turns out to be :)
my phone is pink. thats all i care about.

To answer your question OP:

I am important, duh. However, I only spend $37/month after tax for my ED 450 plan through Sprint (awesome retentions deal) and I spent 80 on my phone

I don't pay for my cable with all of the tiers, land line with all of the features (even unlimited long distance), hd dvr, 50 meg internet, rental fees for the equipment, etc etc.

Which is all comped by hubby's company, including his cell phone.

So ha! Have fun with your cable bill :harhar:

That's the problem. He isn't using his mind. He is getting all of his information out of some old Popular Mechanics magazines from the 1980's
