Here's my suggestion-

Gray reps from newer users should turn green and become official reps when and if that user continues to contribute to SD and posts their 50+ times. While still in the phase of only giving gray reps, they should be held to the same max number of reps as users who have qualified to rep others. No reason for those rules to be different and it would prevent rep craziness.

The way I see it here is a scenario today:

OP-1 gets repped by someone on Tuesday who has only made 30 posts. but then OP-2 gets repped by that same person on Thursday, after the repper has posted now 50 times... Only OP-2 gets an actual rep.

Here is the scenario of this suggestion:

OP-1 gets repped by someone on Tuesday who has only made 30 posts, but then OP-2 gets repped by that same person on Thursday, after the repper has posted now 50 times... OP-2 gets an actual rep and OP-1's gray rep matures to green, receiving a rep from their Tuesday deal.

If the newer user never stays long enough to reach full 'repping' status, then there is no harm done. It's status quo. But when that new user mature's to the point where SD recognizes their contribution and rewards them with the ability to rep, the appeciation they expressed for the deals that they took advantage of would also mature and be respected in the same manner.

Just my thoughts.

:iagree: I've always wondered why that wasn't done already. I thought it must be too difficult to program in.

I agree but it makes it real easy to cheat, make a username. get 50 BS posts and rep yourself, rinse, repeat.

You can do that now..only repping after the 50 posts. That's why the rules for number of reps per day and making the rounds should be the same.

This sounds like a good idea that could spread reps around more evenly.
