View Full Version : Bare Link repeat Offenders - should they be warned?

We have been having a problem for over a year now in the freebies forum with a few frequent thread posters who just seem to think it is beneath them to have to describe the deal they are posting. They give a basic title and then just toss up a barelink with no description. 7 out of 10 times the deal has complications or restrictions that make it not valid as a freebie and yet nobody says anything. They all just post "Thnaks" and "Repped" as if we give rep out just for being a frequent poster. I never rep someone who is too lazy to take the 5 seconds to type copy and paste the basic info on the deal or even if it is the deal they claim it is.

The posting guidelines are very clear on this and say you are supposed to describe the deal. I am asking that we consider giving warnings to the post whores who just come through, paste up a bunch of bare links and then sit back hoping to clean up on rep. if they got warned, they'd make an effort to follow the guidelines like everyone else and their postings would be of far more use to the rest of the Users. As it is, a number of other users have to follow behind these post whores and clean up their messes, posting the deal info and restrictions.

So, should we warn them?

Wait for the poll

Thanks!

But I agree with you Nuala.

I think warnings are a little harsh... the error in the thread that you are referring to here (http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?sduid=134724&t=334993) was not a poor description, rather that OP just didn't try the deal herself before posting it as a freebie.

The issue is posting freebies that have catches, not poor descriptions. Even with the best description in the world, I don't want to pay for my freebies.

I agree, warning are too harsh. And considering that these people aren't breaking the rules, I don't see why they need a warning.

If you don't like their posts, I suggest that you either ignore them, or be kind enough to add what they are missing from their post in a reply.

Kel be - in your own posting guidlines, you ask that people make some attempt to describe the deal. I'm not referring to any ONE post. We have three or four frequent posters who barely describe the deal in the subject heading and then just toss up a bare link and then begin posting another deal they saw on fark wallet. many of them are reposts and by posting NO description whatsoever, it leaves it to others to come up behind them and clean up. Also, it makes future reposts that much more likely.

How about a 0 point warning then? No harm no foul and you'll get their attention. Frequent requests by other users has done nothing to stem the tide of bare link postings (which violates the posting guidelines mind you) and it is contagious. Users who used to make some effort to at least type a a few words aren't bothering anymore. I know some of these people are kel be's friends but still, It hurts the forum not to have everyone following the guidelines.

if not a warning, how about a general alert gentling reminding people to follow the posting guidelines? then nobody gets singled out.

it has nothing to do with "not liking" somebody's post - it's about following the posting guidelines. Some people do and some people seem exempt.

I think you're a little out of line.
