On the old version, you needed 2 positives to have a thumbs up.
With this new setup, you only need 1 positive to have one thumbs up. I dont like this because everyone is giving themselves a thumbs up on topics they create cluttering the hot deals with (one thumbs up posts)...
CAN WE CHANGE IT BACKK!??? please

This has always been the case, I don't know why, but I'd rather let other people decide if my thread is good or not. With this new setup, it is now easier to see a thumbs up or down. What you are referring to is on the old style, 1 thumbs up/down becomes an "x", while the new way is 1 thumb up/down is a lighter shade of a thumb up/down.
I think it should go back to the way it was if possible for this. Newer users might not understand a good deal and look to the thumb up/down as a factor, while older users know to look past that and look at the title/post to see if it's a good deal or not.

A better way would be to set it so you can't rate your own threads.

It's more like half a thumb. It was changed to provide better feedback when voting. The scoring is pretty much the same. Previously 1 solid thumb = 2-3 votes. Now it's 2 votes and 4 votes for the later thumbs.
+1 = <img src="http://i.slickdeals.net/images/rating/rating1.gif" />
+2 = <img src="http://i.slickdeals.net/images/rating/rating2.gif" />
+3 = <img src="http://i.slickdeals.net/images/rating/rating3.gif" /> etc
I've been looking at the tallies and there arn't that many people voting their own threads. I like to give the OP the power to knock off a -1 vote for threadcrappers.

I think that members voting a deal thumbs down should at least post WHY. I check out a lot of thumbs down deals and half the time the person who voted thumbs down didn't understand/ like the deal. There should be accountability - you should have to post when you vote thumbs down and explain why. My two cents.

I also see a lot of thumbs up, the deal was just posted and it already has 1 thumb up, and it's always the same people doing it.

That's another reason why it's nice to be able to change your own post if someone voted it thumbs down without a reason. I do that in Freebies if I don't see reasoning for the thumbs down.

I don't knwo if I like the dimmed "rating1" thumbs up. now there are 2 kinds of thumbs up. we should k eep it simple like the old way. 2 positives is 1 thumbs up etc..

I agree 100% -- people should be required to post WHY the vote thumbs down on a deal. The last few days, I've been scouring the Hot Deals forum looking for hard drives and DVD burners. There are more posts with thumbs down and no reason why than there are deals with no rating at all.
I think many users are voting down on deals because they read it and see it's not the format they want or a brand they like. That doesn't make it a bad deal and there's no reason to vote it down for that. If people HAD to post a reason for a thumbs down, maybe this would stop.

This seems to be completely useless and in many cases the thumbs down is just plain unjustified. People are giving thumbs down to threads they don't even post in -- no reasons are being given for thumbs down. I'm sure most OP's would like to know why a thread was given a thumbs down.
It looks like people are rating down a thread just because they are bored, they don't like the OP, the brand, the format, the font used to post the thread, or whatever. This discourages people from posting deals, IMHO - - I know I'm pretty discouraged after posting a deal that got thumbs down after 31 views and not one reply.
I really feel like this thumbs up/down system should be done away with. I don't see how anyone could keep up with it if a requirement was made to post a reason for a thumbs down, because someone would have to read all the comments and decide which are justified and which should be deleted and the votes retallied.
People are just not participating in this in the spirit it was intended and it does not serve any useful purpose.

Like everything else in life, you have to take thumbs up/down with a grain of salt.
The smart slickdealer can see past invalid or emotion ratings. He can recognize a deal that is good for him that might be bad for others, or vice versa.
He does not put too much stock in such ratings.
IMHO, if a poster is overly discouraged or influenced by thumbs up/down ratings, then he or she is too thin-skinned for his or her own good.
We all have different criteria for deals. None of us is truly right or wrong in our perspective.
Suppose you are looking for a high-quality product but the majority is looking for a low-priced product. They rate a high-priced deal poorly, because it is of no use to them. However, you may realize that the item is a real steal for the minority of buyers who want that high-end product.
You can't expect everyone else to know what is important to YOU and to rate threads accordingly.
We need not to let our feewings get in the way too much :D

In the "other" popular deal forum not mentioning the name, there were tons of discussion about if you vote negative (or thumb down), you have to give reason. But the whole discussion come down if 10 persons don't think the price is good, so EVERYONE of those 10 persons need to make a post like...
Price not good
Make no sense at all.
The conclusion is if the deal is hot, it will get enough thumbs up to override all those negative vote. I still remember the other deal forum try to solve this problem by ONLY ALLOW positive (or thumbs up) vote. HAHAHA. bad idea. Forced so many people jumped over to SD which force the other site change back to the way it was. :)
I would say if the voting system work, then don't make any big change.

I think you should have to give the reason you thumbs down/up - sort of like rep points. Someone gave every single bestdealmag deal a thumbs down because they had never received their magazine from them. I sent them a PM that said - hey, try their customer service and read their email that says 8-12 weeks.
I've also noticed that many people do it for things like you were saying - Let's say I don't like Dell PC so if some does a Dell deal I'm going to thumbs down it just because I don't like Dell. That is not a valid reason. I always appreciate a comment like shipping kills the deal, but if I'm buying say 4 of something it is a deal. Some things really are bad - like this is a spam site or I never get these rebates. It would be good to know that instead of wondering does this person just not like the OP or the product.
