I feel we are becoming very FW-like - I know thats a horrible thing to say, but it's true...

When I joined SD there hasnt been so much threadcrapping and overall hostility on these forums...

and one thing that makes (or made?) SD so much better than FW, is the lesser amount of this...

I post a woot-off alert which didn't show up at all first time I searched, dug 3 pages... (search sucks, already a thread about that)
it showed up the second time I searched on the second page

I got immediate threadcrapping.

instead of a friendlier:
-Sorry, Repost
-This has been posted already

I cant imagine under today's conditions that someone might say "This has been posted already, but thanks for your post anyway"...yet when I joined, I would see that

Makes me definitely think 30 times If I even want to post a deal if I come across one..

I completely agree with you. I once posted a deal which had already been posted and I missed it during my search, and I got flamed pretty badly. I almost hesitate now to post a deal. There is no incentive to the OP to post a deal besides getting rep points. But most people try to give back to SD, what they gain from it. And therefore abusive or even harsh words to some one who ends up reposting should be condemned on SD. We should instead be encouraging those who make an effort to post a deal. A kind word saying thanks for the effort, but the deal has already been posted before should suffice. I think mods need to highlight this problem, otherwise pretty soon people would be turned off by such criticism and stop posting altogether.

Remember to always mod alert if you believe people are being rude/threadcrapping.

I notice that the majority of the rude comments are made by new members. SD is a community like anywhere else, the members share a basic set of values and appropriate behavior. The jerks don't last very long...the other members usually mod alert them and let them know that they are out of line. Please don't get discouraged... just keep posting and know that the majority of the members really do appreciate your efforts!

:iagree: This is the suggestion that holds the answer.

Threadcrapping will go on as long as you do not mod alert these posts. It is up to us, the SD community, to notify the mods/admin of such behavior. With over 100,000 members and 4,000,000 posts, things sometimes go unnotice to the people in charge because of the sheer volume of posts per day.

For examples of what does and does not constitute threadcrapping, please see here (http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?sduid=70647&t=206102).

Please do. We have plenty of warnings to go around. :coverlaf:

:iagree: I just posted my first post in the hot deals section* and it wasn't perfect and on second thought maybe I should've put it in the coupons area, BUT its bogo quiznos! thats a good deal and all I got was nasty comments about how confusing my post was or whatever

I'm thinking of not signing in anymore and just lurking again

this is why I usually don't join/contribute to forums-too many asshats

These threads come up every so often. SDer's are getting meaner, etc.

The answer has already been given. Use the mod alert feature. As mods, we can't read the tens of thousands of new posts every single day. It just can't be done. That is why we need you to help us moderate these forums.

How can you help? Simply by using the mod alert feature to bring these mean posts to our attention. The forums are what you make of them, and if you want us to help clean them up, then mod alert the posts.

As rayzac mentioned, we have plenty of warnings to go around, and I for one like any excuse to use them.
