View Full Version : Is the Repost Catcher working?
It used to be that when previewing or submitting a new thread that contained a link already posted, the "repost catcher" (not sure of its exact name) would notify you of the thread/post that contained the same link
This doesn't seem to be the case anymore
For example, I posted this link (http://www.madreymujer.com/freecalendar.htm) here:
http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?sduid=0&t=345377
and that same link was posted in a new thread here: http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?sduid=39493&p=4083370&highlight=calendar#post4083370
I just did a test with this. When I create a new thread using the same link and preview it, there's no message indicating that the link was previously posted.
Just wondering if this could be a "glitch" in SD 2.0
thanks :)

It did not properly get indexed. Did you edit the link? It doesn't re-index it if the link was added or edited afterwards. I should change that behavior when I revisit the URL checker.

I did edit the link in the first post. However, (if memory serves me right) the URL checker used to "catch" a reposted link even if it were not posted in the first post of a thread. So i was under the impression that i'd be notified of the later post that contained the link.
thanks :)
The URL checker does appear to work when submitting a new thread with post containing a link that was previously posted in the first (unedited) post of a thread.
I just tried to submit a post with a link to a freebie, and then saw this message...
Repost Warning: It is possible that this freebie/deal is a repost. The url in your post has already been posted in the following FREE Pledge Mult-Purpose Clean & Dust Sample (http://forums.slickdeals.net/t328764.html) thread. Please verify that your deal is not a repost. If it is not, please submit again.
The interesting thing is that I tried 3 times to search the term "pledge" using "Search this Forum" (in the freebies forum, I was logged off at the time), and I saw this...
Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms.
After I logged in, and did the same search, I saw several search results containing the term
I'm wondering if other folks have noticed the same thing...?
anyhow, just thought I'd note this in case this would be of any interest
thanks :)
UPDATE (5:34 PM): figured it out, sort of...
If one is not logged in, then the search only goes back 2 weeks (so today, it went as far back as 09-28-2006). The thread began on 9/14/06, however there was a reply to the thread today (10/12/06). So, shouldn't the search function (even when logged off) find the thread since the most recent reply was posted today (within the last two weeks)?
UPDATE 2 (8:43 PM): OK, I just did another search while logged out, and this time, I saw several search results. I guess this has been fixed already, or maybe was never broken in the first place :dontknow:

When you see that, the search server is choking.

It must be choking now?
Searched 'Biz' and got the "Sorry - no matches" message. Before posting this
http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?sduid=129897&t=348212
Which turned out to be a repost from a thread 5 months ago that used the same url.
That's a bummer.
