Main question:
How is it that they can commit to time consuming make-up regimen, and expensive outer acessories, but not to jogging 20mins a day, (which is arguable all one needs, as long as there's consistency)
On the bus today:
Saw around, counted, 22x "big" girls while riding the campus buses between classes.
I notice many of them have very complicated make up scenarios,, foundation, mascara, liner, shadow (feathered), toner, bronzer, nude lip, etc etc..
Also, many wear a decent amount of middle brand clothing, lots of BR mainly, they're relatively young after-all.
SO, all of this cost money and time, the make up well exceeds 20 mins in most of these cases,
And their cloths are obviously not cheap either...

Hmm, I usually get anywhere between 6-10+ hrs of tennis a week, but minimum is still around 6 hrs. a week. Honestly, I dont understand how people do not exercise, I find it really fun and adventurous. Even just running or jogging, I used to do it over the summer when I had no one to play tennis with.

It makes me have so much more energy. I feel so sluggish if I skip a few days.
Maybe they do it just to avoid you?

Easily?
but the most worthwhile trait is always time vs payoff... 20mins of makeup vs 20mins of working out.... the difference is clear
the makeup would at most get the girl some attention from a desperate guy (ugly, fat, very drunk, special fetish),,, while the potential of a toned body, even with poor facial proportions is substantially higher.

hmm... i think girls are more fit to jog than guys.. guys are too heavy and can easily damage their knees and hip :(

Because some improvement right this second almost always trumps a lot of improvement that takes months or years.

Maybe they have a health issue that makes it difficult for them to lose weight, maybe they think they're pretty and are happy and confident about their weight, maybe they have a husband or boyfriend who thinks they're perfect just the way they are (not every man likes skinny girls), maybe they don't let their weight define them.

health issues wouldn't affect "SO MANY" i counted 22 on the bus just today.
If they THOUGHT they were pretty, they wouldn't need so much makeup
Confidence,, no,, most avoid eye-contact like the plague, and were in a stiff sitting style shoulders scrunched.
Husband and boyfriend,, wise,, perfect means perfect,, there are no DEGREES of perfection,, AT best their boyfriends are at par with these big gals,

I'll refute each of your points below:
I think I'm perfectly fine looking and I wear makeup. It gives my skin a fresh look and makeup helps highlight my best features. Nothing wrong with that. I don't do it for anyone else, I do it for me. It makes me feel good.
I tend to avoid eye contact with people because I keep to myself. I also don't like looking at people on the bus. Maybe they think you're ugly and don't want to make eye contact with you. :dontknow:
Okay, smartass, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Maybe their significant others think they look BEAUTIFUL just the way they are and they see no reason to think their girlfriend/wife need to change the way they are. I know guys who only date bigger girls when they're good looking and fit themselves.
Not everyone has your taste in women. These girls probably don't give a shit what your shallow ass thinks, either.

Man, what a day. There I was, on the bus, doing my makeup *feathered lashes, nude lips, glittery cheeks...the whole bit!* when I noticed someone was watching me. It was really creepy. It made me want to go eat about 10 hamburgers. I had thought about going jogging for 20 minutes, but I was so scared I went home and ate and cried myself to sleep instead. Thanks alot, mr weirdo on the bus!!!

Hmmm... You're right about highlighting your features.. but if you are of "hefty" size, your biggest most out there feature is the plumpness. your highlighted feature is like a desert rose, amidst a well, vast desert... and from more than 2 feet away :(
I am not shallow, but realize that ANYONE can be emotionally fulfilling, but only those who have a nice/passable body to go with that "great personality" you're assumed to have, does it really make the bar. Otherwise, you're still a few points away :(
Beauty is NOT in the eye of the beholder, there are some basic mathematical principles that determines GENERAL beauty. ie, golden ratio,
So, if your ratio is off due to face pudginess, then sry, ur highlighted features don't come through.. :(
Same goes for the ratio of your waist line to your hips. you can dress in the smallest, blackest dress,, wouldn't work :(
Even with good makeup, you cannot hide the uneven skin texture that seems to be endemic in girls who eat too much,, this is probably due to some acne..

I take 10-15 minutes. I like to take my time and poke around in the mornings. I spend a lot of time looking for the product I want too. If I was better organized and in a hurry I could do it that fast. I'm one of those wake up early so I'll have the time to get ready types of people. My husband sleeps as late as he can and then rushes around like a crazy person. It drives me crazy.

Plus size maybe but you aren't fat. And you are pretty cute.
Hot bodies fade faster than ugly faces and personalities become attractive.
Bodies do NOT fade fast,, it would require poor decisions and many external constraints to make someone who is FIT to go "unfit",,
if anything, that choice would've been made on part of weak personality, and weak perserverence :look:

Maybe if you just jogged 20 minutes a day (despite the fact that it's bad for your joints and exercise bras don't fit/support larger women) all of your problems would magically disappear. :teehee:
to avoid attention? that's makes no sense..
clearly the paint is ment to Gather attention vs their normal state of invisibility.. :(
But, my point is,, their investment is definately in the wrong place
Psych 101. Women will often gain weight so as not to draw attention from the opposite sex. (Note: this does not work with black men.) They will then still try to feel good about themselves and/or attempt to conform to societal expectations by wearing nice clothes or makeup.
No i am not, shallow is if one was after beauty and nothing else....
But emotional satiety is easily achievable with ANYONE... which is why few truely shallow people exist. Most are merely looking for the "whole package,"
And what i say about the math and beauty is common truth.
Philosophy 101. The more enlightened you become the more capable you are of seeing goodness, truth, and beauty, in others. You can debate that with Socrates when you get to the other side if there is one.

It's all well and good for English not to be a strong suit. But to throw around words like that to make some sort of point makes you look stupid.
Not "in" with you. And maybe the people around you. It might be helpful if you realize that your small circle isn't the world.
You gave two options based on a TON of underlying assumptions. (Pun intended) It's like the age old question: are you still beating your girlfriend?
(extra points if you know the one word answer to this without googling it.)
Here again, you give an answer that has some truth... but has nothing to do with my point. You want to know why someone would spend all that time with makeup and clothes and not put it into exercise. As if it's simple for everyone to just get out there and exercise.
I can tell you as a coach, half the people you meet don't have the first clue how to start. The other half are scared to death of pain. And the OTHER half actually can't get out and do it. Just because you can do a thing - with your 3% body fat and lucky metabolism - doesn't mean everyone can. You could probably sit on a couch for a year and still get up and do more exercise, more easily, than any of the girls you saw on that bus. That doesn't mean your special in the sense that you have anything mentally over those girls. It means your special because your pituitary or heart or something else is kinder to you in that department. Gain 100 pounds and keep it for a year. Then get out and work it off. Then maybe you can comment on how it's just easier to get out and exercise.

I'd also like to point out something that's been driving me crazy in many things I've seen lately. It's this declaration of absolutisms (that's a word, right?) that are not only subjective in their very nature (beauty) but are so fickle with time. Just because RIGHT NOW super skinny is "in" you have the op talking about the "math of beauty." I promise you, if you take a survey of what people like right now, you'll almost certainly find a pattern you can assign some mathematical formula to. I believe that's called wagging the dog.
However, this is ever so short sighted: especially in the face of the fact that for hundreds of years, beauty was more towards the buxom side because odds were, a woman with wide hips and plenty of baby fat would survive child birth and be able to better provide for the child. It's only in the very recent past (less than 100 years) that stick thin is in. In fact, I think they point to the 70's and Twiggy as starting that fad. A whopping 40ish years, and the OP is postulating on how beauty is absolute.

Ok, right, variations exist,, but the things that we KNOW now and consider beautiful is distilled from ALL previous experiences...
The v shape torso is an attractive male trait universally, only achievable through low bf%,, and while attaching it to the golden ratio could infact be arbitrary,, the basic general premise continues,, broader shoulder than thinner waist..
in women,, it's thinner waist vs wider hip,, and THAT premise has not changed either,, because modern day, we have the HIP TO WAIST ratio,, which also typically uses the Golden ratio :bounce:

I don't like being started at by weird men. I'm not going to gain a bunch of weight, but some men will stare and make you feel uncomfortable.
When I traveled for work I went to those huge tech conventions. You would always have a lot of booth babes of course, and I get bored easily so I would go to the really, really hot ones and ask them what it was like to just do day to day things, like go to the store or gym or whatever knowing that they were being gawked at all the time. Most of them gave the impression that they were unaware that it was happening and didn't feel it happened all the time. My guess was that they became a bit numb to it over time, otherwise how the hell would you go buy soup without going insane.

Wrong again. You make a lot of assumptions about how other people think and feel. I'm not a people watcher. That's not to say the absurd passes me in complete obscurity though. There was a woman in front of me at the store today in skin tight jean leggings that didn't look well on her. The seam running straight up the back of her square butt was very distracting. It was totally off center. :facepalm2:

However, it's not as simple as just jogging 20 min/day. It's difficult to lose weight (especially as you get over college age).. It's a long term commitment, with slow progress.. So try to be sensitive about that.. Some of the girls on the bus were probably trying to lose weight.

I was in much better shape than you were.. Spent hours in the gym..
Looked down on people that didn't do the same as me.

But once you leave college, you can't spend 3 hours/day in the gym
That's how much time I used to spend.
I'm still in ok shape.. not a greek god or anything , but ok for my age.
But man, I used to do the weight lifting cycles where you would eat a lot for two months, gain muscle, and then drop weight.. those cycles.. IT is hard at 20.. It's even harder at a later age.
Once someone is overweight, it takes more than stop eating sugar and jogging 20 min/day.

Yes, we did. You've avoided every question. So I'll ask you outright. How old are you? How tall are you? What do you look like? What color is your hair? Do you wear glasses or braces? Have any unsightly deformities?
Why don't you upload a photo of yourself so everyone else can tell you how to improve your appearance since you're so gracious to do that for dozens of girls on the bus?
i've definately said those things many times in other posts, isn't it obvious how old i am, college, it would have to be between 18-2x so yes i am prone to SOME naive-ness...
i am 5"7.5' , i tell girls i'm 5' 8" so there's my insecurity, 135lbs, hair is black,, I've posted my mug shots here on slick before (japanese wax) that was me,, but now i'm afraid all the big people might atk me in the streets, all the hostility that has gone down so far. (WHICH IS UNJUSTIFIED< as i did not ATK ANYONE, only OBSERVED)
I wear glasses for style, contacts in occasions, no i don't have braces,, my teeth are also naturally fit to the golden ratio,,
ever since i began low carb,, complexion wise has been 90% clear.
In 2 years, you've only mildly improved? Where's the commitment and the investment, man?
You won't even jog 20 minutes a day, you huge hypocrite! :lmao:
jogging does not improve pecs..
I jump rope 15-20mins prior to each upper body workout session :)
Personally i fear running because during highschool my hips were really strained in sprinting, so i switched to jump-rope because i can land on rubber matting and on 2 feet thus reducing any harsh jolt to my joints

i've been working on pecks, that was 2009, it's mildly improved today,
You should've seen a difference after 8 months  I am kidding.
In all seriousness, if you've been trying for 2 years to put muscle on, and lifting weights, you have not been eating enough calories to put muscle on. You should've seen better results by now. I'm just saying this to help you, not as an attack.

Interesting. You don't run because you obviously don't know how. This sounds awful familiar to something I posted earlier. Hmmmmm.

So in other words, you're a skinny, short little dweeby guy that has/had an acne problem... yeah, I think we can all see why you're lashing out at others now.

I never said it did - I'm saying you won't commit to improving your physique, but you expect others to do so, so you're a huge HYPOCRITE.

LOL, way to assume the worst,, you're really enlightened,, socrates ftw
dweeby, perhaps,, acne problem,, ahh,, never had that many,, only occasionally, it was never a problem,, i have no pock marks.
FOR the last time,, I did NOT lash out,, you guys did it to yourselves
I am commited to improvement, but I am hitting diminishing returns, any improvement probably won't net me much greater body image. So yes, it has slowed
---- this is nonetheless far further a point than the bigger girls i met on the bus, where much improvement could be made
Well i mentioned why girls may be better suited to jogging, as they can eventually be much lighter,, so prolonged legwork may not be as harsh on their joints..
and my hip is a case specific thing...
Are we to assume ALL the big girls on that bus has a medical condition inhibiting exercise / diet??

Really? In my head it's not a song just 2 words: bra fat. A local radio host used the term and the hate mail and phone calls flooded in. Bra fat.

As I said: obviously. But didn't you say that the fat chicks should just run for 20 minutes a day? (Well, you said jog, but whatever.) I pointed out that the first of the three halves of the female population just don't know how.
So why is this not an acceptable answer to your original question? If you can't even do it, why would you expect that all the girls on the bus could?

No, you did it to them. You're some creepy little dude that has some sort of inferiority complex, but instead of being comfortable in your own skin, you have to tell others what's wrong with them in order to make yourself feel better.

Please attempt a more challenging curriculum to curb the shallowness of your existence. Eating disorders are considered brain disorders - chemical imbalances in the brain. Depression is often a root cause of over-eating or poor eating. Socio-economic class also plays a role. Take Environmental Science 102 and watch more PBS to learn why.

Eating disorder, um.. it's only a disorder if it REALLY gets in the way.. but my exercise routine is every other day,, and my meals are so simple that it really conserves a great amount of time,,
I haven't had cable for a while..
I get at what you're saying about the influence about psych and econ, however,,
the general distilled information on how to be fit is certainly out there already in great detail...
Um... no,, but i was merely wondering why they would rather be buying makeup than spend the same resources on a workout
Good! This is progress. Makeup can be found in Walgreens or Walmart for pretty cheap. Gym memberships run on average of $50 a month. That doesn't include workout wear, gas/bus fare, etc... It all adds up.
