I can't say what I want to say about this because Slickdeals is a family show.

If you're a parent who accepts Medicaid payments from the State of Michigan to help support your mentally-disabled adult children, you qualify as a state employee for the purposes of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU). They can now claim and receive a portion of your Medicaid in the form of union dues.

Terrible to see what could be a great thing (a union of workers uniting for their good) being used by people who are just greedy. Money corrupts everything.
Simple solution: Encourage workers to form unions but without any cash involved. No union fees, no dues, just a true gathering of workers coming together for the better. Back to basics.

How about addressing the underlying problem of the simple fact that these people are considered employees of the state even though they don't do any work for it whatsoever. Fix that bit and the union won't be able to get any $$ from them!

So if you are accept money from the State to take care of disabled people you are an employee of the State? Is that the rationale?

I've heard of similar things like this story in the past, but, even if there didn't seem to be much if any upside to the unionizing, I didn't really think at the time that they could simply be union power grabs, because that would be evil.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Unions should be banned on a federal level. Once that is done, any speech advocating for unions to be re-legalized should be considered sedition and criminalized. The way I see it, advocating for unions is no different than inciting violence.

Doing what public sector unions do best…I find it very strange that the poster child for the left, FDR saw the problem with public sector unions.

I thought the left's poster child is JFK, who pushed for cutting taxes to stimulate the economy.

FDR was the Obama of the 40’s with his grab for power of the court. After his death it became obvious that term limits had to be implemented with the 22nd amendment.

I wish someone would come and try to defend this. I can't for the life of me figure out how it could be done, but it would sure be interesting to see it attempted.

The original article. No one has even attempted to make the case that what is happening is right, or that the information presented is wrong.

You sure about that? Any evidence? Or is it just a hunch? Wondering if you might be right, I started searching and the first many reports on google were from very anti-union websites, so I figured they might not be the most objective. However, I did not see a single denial of the charge, which I would think would show up quickly when such a huge lie were being circulated about a large union that definately has the ability and the incentive to correct lies being told about them.
To find out more, I went right to the source.
http://www.mqccc.org/portal/-q=node-25.htm (http://slickdeals.net/?&u2=http://www.mqccc.org/portal/-q=node-25.htm) tells us
Home Help Services is a program of the Department of Human Services (DHS). It is designed to give support to individuals who are unable to care for themselves adequately at home. This program provides them the funds to hire helpers to assist with daily activities. This allows people to live in their own homes rather than live in nursing homes, adult foster care homes, or homes for the aged. and Home Help Consumers employ thier own providers. Providers are not employed by DHS or the State of Michigan. Providers may be friends, relatives, neighbors, or employees of home help agencies which sure sounds like the program being discussed.
now, look way down at the bottom of www.mqccc.org (http://slickdeals.net/?&u2=http://www.mqccc.org) [mqccc.org (http://slickdeals.net/?&u2=http://www.mqccc.org)] it says, plain as day (for some reason this link is doing strange things. If I copy and paste into my browser it works just fine, or just go to the first link in this post and then click on "home") Individual Home Help Providers are represented by SEIU Healthcare Michigan Then, when you click the link to the SEIU, you are brought directly to this page (http://slickdeals.net/?&u2=http://www.seiuhealthcaremi.org/) [seiuhealthcaremi.org (http://slickdeals.net/?&u2=http://www.seiuhealthcaremi.org/)] , which, right at the top, says
Members Vote to Approve Fair and Equal Initiative
SEIU Members are celebrating a huge victory with the passing of the Fair and Equal Initiative. Members voted 4 to 1 in favor of the initiative that will make dues an even 2.5 % percent, with a $55 cap, for members across the board. which indicates ALL members pay dues.
If the home help providers are members of the union and all union members pay dues, it follows that the home help providers pay dues.
So now, can anyone defend this practice or come up with convincing evidence that it is not happening?
