I'm in the market for a cheap but decent coverage cell phone plan
my goal/range:
200 minutes/month
unlimited text
better value if this is included in a family plan
do SDers know any discounts?

No idea what FAN is. That's irritating that you bother to post an acronym that is not well known (to me!).
Anyway I'd go with pageplus. December 20th they are coming out with a new $12 plan which includes:
250 minutes
250 text/mms(not including data)
10mb data

I'm in a similar boat and will definitely go with an internet dealer.
For example using the below dealer you can get up to a 12% discount on top of that price:

I'm currently on the Sprint all you can eat with 4 users and am probably going this route. Also it let me pick different plans for different family member based on their individual usage ($12 plan for me, $30 plan for my wife, and 2000 text/mo for my kids).
For your usage you would probably want:
$80 for 2000 calling minutes that are good for a full year.
$20 for unlimited texting (or $11 for 2000 texts/mo)

Page Plus is the way to go.
No contract, but you get the coverage of the VERIZON network (Page Plus resells Verizon services without the expensive name).
$30 for 1200 minutes, 3000 text messages, and 100 mb data
$44.95 for unlimited talk and text
Or you could buy a 400 minute card for $25 or a 1000 minute card for $50(don't expire for a while).
Then you could add 2000 text messagesper month for $11 or unlimited texting for $20 per month.
If I was helpful, please rep me.
