So, is anyone obsessed with nail polish like I am? I want to buy it all the time. Recently, I've been in love with Deborah Lippman. Unfortunately, they're expensive.
What are some of your favorites?

That sounds pretty. It really is great quality. I even like to wear the clear by itself sometimes  I have a couple of brown colors by Revlon that are awesome. One is called Vixen and the other Valentine.

I bought this top coat from Seche Vite that dries my nails so quickly. It makes my nails look nice and shiny, too. I painted my nails Tuesday and used it and my nails still haven't chipped significantly, even while working. I love it!

Who taught you how to write a sentence? If you have older sisters, then you have probably been their test subject before. I sure was....many times while growing up! Sometimes they were mean and put nail polish of different colors on all my finger nails, then took off without leaving me any remover! But I got back at them....it took some time, patience and some planning...but it was worth it. :evillaf:

I'm fanatical about my nails. I recently bought a curing light to do my own gel polishes. They are expensive but they last for a long time. I think the base coat is good for 1000 applications because you apply it so thinly. I like to put on crystals and white rose style decals on my thumbs to make them bootiful. :D
The chlorine in the pool eats polish but I prefer bare or buffed to natural shine. People with super healthy natural nails make me envious.

I like it when girls wear the clear ones with the white tips, so HOT!! And I love it when Asian girls wear the black polish, or if they mix it up and use some other dark color. The only turn-off color for me is Red, do not understand why, but I just do not like that color on a girl.

It can really add a lot to her look if the chick is dressed up for some special occasion...it looks classy then.

I only paint my toe nails. At the salon they use opi polishes. At home I use either opi or Zoya. My finger nails are always natural. Either forever french acrylics or just my normal natural fingernails neatly kept. If I am wearing acrylics they are very short. I can not stand long fingernails.

I'm getting more into the artwork of painting my nails. Whenever I've gone to get a mani/pedi, I pick the brains of whomever is doing my nails to get inside info on techniques. Now I can do them myself and it saves a ton of money. But about two months ago, I was talking with one of my sons on the phone and I was in the middle of giving myself a pedicure. I had already done one foots nails, and drew a cherry blossom on my big toe. While I was talking with my son, we were commenting about how hot the weather was. When I got off the phone with him, I looked down at my feet and realized I had a cherry blossom on one big toe and drew a bikini on the other.

I used to like having my nails done...but I hated when they broke.
Right now I do not do my nails at all...when I add nail polish to them they tend to dry out and break more.

You should try the gel polishes. The polish, when applied and cured correctly, will last for a few weeks without chipping. Have a salon do it for you the first few times so you can see the process of application and removal. Your nails will be stronger with this type of application.
I want to add that since I've been using gel polish, I haven't broken a nail once, not even a chip. I still do dishes, clean the house as usual, open boxes, etc.. This stuff is like armor for nails.

The polish is polish, not fake nails. Its applied to your natural nails. I don't wear fake nails. The polish I use is Gelish Harmony. Amazon sells it, but you need a curing light to set the polish - baked on goodness, lol!

I'm one of those people who don't polish my nails - use to a long, long time ago - but I found out that my nails broke more easily when I polished them. So I stopped polishing them, and I buff them to a natural shine, as you are saying. I inherited my nails from my Mom, always had long, natural nails, and still do - and I'd rather they stay long without polish, than break with polish on them - something about whatever is in polish - that will make them break :dontknow: what it is

Especially where you are living now - in Vegas the dry heat will definitely affect your nails - when I was there - the first thing I noted was how it affected my nails - and I was like WTF - and it was the dry heat out there. But I always had a problem with nail polish with my nails and my nails breaking more easily when polishing them - so buffing is the way I do it now to get them shiny :)

My nails have been so long that if they break extremely short - down to where the skin is to expose that skin - it literally hurts - that happened recently when packaging boxes - and the one nail has begun to grow back over this area now - and my finger no longer hurts. But the skin is like a new born baby's skin - soft as can be - and it's extremely painful when a nail breaks.
Plus, it's harder to me to do things without my nails being long - I'm so used to it at this point in life - even with typing - my typing goes askew - when a nail breaks

how do you remove it?
I had the gel polish 1 x and the normal nail polish remover didn't work
I peeled it off :crying2:
I like all kinds...my standby is OPI or Essie. Right now I'm into London Butter Polishes.
I did the OPI Axxium Gel polish for awhile, but the process to remove the gel made my nails thin I think (you soak, there is some buffing etc). So for me, it made my nails less strong. It DOES last a long time. My reg polish will last at least 5 days, so I just get gel manicures for trips/vacations.

I always have nail polish on my toe nails, but not often on my finger nails. On my fingers, they chip off too quickly. On my toes it can stay on for a long time I've gotten to the point where if there isn't nail polish on my toe nails, it looks strange - like alien feet to me. :dontknow: I'm weird.
And I've never used any nice brand of nail polish. I'm too cheap. I'll go for the $2 stuff at Meijer, or some Avon brand stuff. I've never had nice nail polish. I have used some nice Sally Hansen (I think) nail polish, but it chips off just the same as the $3 cheaper stuff, so I figured it wasn't worth it.
I've never been good at painting my right hand's finger nails with my left hand. How do you all do that? I see people who do little cutesy things on their dominant hand, and I don't know how they can manage to do that with their off-hand. Like polka dots, or stripes, or applying little sparkly things...

I get shellac manis and regular OPI pedis. Love OPI's "Not Really a Waitress" on my toes, French on the hands. I'm on week 4 of this manicure with no chips! :flex:
To remove it, scuff up the surface of the polish a bit with a coarse file. Not so much that you damage your natural nail, just enough to break the seal of the polish. Soak in 100% acetone for 5-10 min, and gently scrape off. No damage if removed correctly!

I use cotton balls with 100% acetone atop the nail, and held in place by wrapping foil squares around my fingers rather than soaking my hand to remove the gel. Same with my toes.
ALVS, the shape of your cuticles defines how your nails should be cut squared/pointy, etc..
Majide, I'm left-handed but I only use my left hand to write with. Everything else is done with my right hand, so its not too difficult for me to draw on my left hand. But nail art is kind of like a haircut (at least, if you take the right attitude about it) in that if you mess it up, in a week or two it'll grow out enough to try again. :)

It's a pain in the ass to paint my nails because of how small they are. My friends make fun of how tiny my pinky nail is. I usually have to buy gloves for kids because even lady's smalls are too big in the fingers and they look weird.
As for the dominant hand thing, I actually don't do a bad job with my left hand, although it feels more comfortable in my right hand. I'm actually pretty weird because I use my left hand as my throwing hand in games like darts and beer pong, for example, but everything else right-handed. My mom was born right-handed, but broke her arm when she was four, so ever since then she has been left-handed. My dad is a natural left-handed person, so I think it must stem from that. He only writes left-handed, though, and does everything else right-handed.

Me too. I'm afraid that when I cut my toe nails that I might accidentally cut the whole thing off!
I rarely paint my finger nails. They are long and when ever I paint them it makes them very brittle and they start to crack.
I paint my toes with bright fun colors. But it's very hard to paint the pinky toe. I just drop a dot of nail polish on it and then clean it up once it dries.

You guys should try using a lipstick brush to paint your little nails. Just trim the hairs on the brush down. I also have tiny hands but my nails grow long enough to off set that. When I draw art on my nails, I use a toothpick. Its not any more time consuming, in fact, it saves time over using a brush because it allows for more intricate yet faster drawing with less waste and mess.

3.5 years. I'll never get used to the winter. I'm not a fan at all.
And how much longer do you have to live there?

Who knows?
Well, you might as well make the best of it while you're there!
It'll be easier and more fun to embrace it instead of fight it, especially since you can't do anything about it. :)
Have fun with it! It's not all bad. How awesome is it to sit by the fire, having a cup of hot cider or cocoa, and watching the snow fall outside? Can you do that where it never gets below 70? :nono:
And what's Christmas without a little snow?
Or what about ice skating? And snowball fights? And sledding? And skiing?

I'm too clumsy to ice skate or ski. I don't like having any sort of balls flying at my face either.

Sledding and tubing? Come on, any idiot can slide down a snow-covered hill on a sled/tube!

If I can injure myself walking around in my house, I don't want to know what I could do on a sled or tube.

If you like nail polish, have you tried nail stamping - konad, or some of the great nail art you can find on youtube? I just did cookie monster and elmo ones and they were quick and easy.

Btw. I have been using Seche Vite and I like it. Does the Deborah one last longer or dry quicker/shinier?
Is there anything better than SV?
I honestly don't even look for anything better - that's how much I like it.

I don't get wear polish but I have gel nails that I have filled every 2-3 weeks. This week she hand painted on a candy cane to get me in the Christmas spirit :)

That sounds pretty. It really is great quality. I even like to wear the clear by itself sometimes  I have a couple of brown colors by Revlon that are awesome. One is called Vixen and the other Valentine.

Rosprncss, I was looking over the reviews at Amazon on this stamper product a few days ago. Most reviews weren't that good, but its working for you okay?

So, is anyone obsessed with nail polish like I am? I want to buy it all the time. Recently, I've been in love with Deborah Lippman. Unfortunately, they're expensive.
