I recently sent in a cell phone with a cracked screen and was given a $12.00 GC because it was in poor condition and that is what I expected to get. I have an HP laptop that I changed the hard drive from a 320 to a 750GB and wiped the drive blank. I'm wondering if anyone has traded in a laptop and what they want in regards to to a blanked hard drive or if it has an image on it. I don't want to send the laptop in for a $294 GC and then have them say it's not worth anything.

If it's worth $294 at Best Buy, it's worth $500 on eBay.

I've recycled old televisions and monitors, for which Best Buy charges a $10 fee but then gives you a $10 gift card in return. I usually do this right before I'm going to make a purchase anyway and use the gift cards on the new item. Sometimes I give them as gifts.

on bestbuy.com, there is a trade in page that you can visit to get quotes. Honestly, I would use this link to find out how much credit you can get. If you are ok with the trade in value, you can just take your laptop to a bestbuy store and trade it in there.

I tried this for my cellphone and they said they couldn't take it instore. I also looked up this laptop online and tried instore but they said they couldn't take that either. Seems instore sucks! I'd send it in if I am going to get the quoted $294 GC and not have them say it's missing the OS or something even though the key is on the bottom.
