I jailbroke my 4S running 5.0.1 on Friday. Everything has been fine.

I was using it heavily today and the battery ran all the way down mid-use. I plugged it in and it was stuck at the Apple logo. I remember this is normal for a completely dead battery.

Well, an hour later, it's still stuck. I've restarted it multiple times by holding home and power, but it returns to the frozen state. I've also unplugged and replugged it in multiple times. It doesn't show up in iTunes.

Short of DFU mode and a restore, is there anything else I can try? I don't want to lose my data that hasn't been backed up since last night (texts and pictures.)

Please and thank you :O

Soft reset (power + home for 10 seconds)...if that doesn't work, you're gonna have to restore.

Yeah, that's what I meant by restarting lol. I blame YOU since you gave me the heads up about the jailbreak release! (Just kidding...)

No to all three. It's all fixed now. I'm just missing some texts and a few pictures, but everything else is fine. Thanks.

Thanks! I've been jailbreaking for 4 years now and I've never heard of that before. I'm on a Mac, but I can easily get to a Windows computer should this happen again.

For now at least, I'm not jailbreaking again.

Btw next time you jailbreak the first thing you should download from cydia is openssh...that way if you brick it you can fix your iPhone without restoring.

Two possibly dumb questions:

Is the phone jailbroken? And is the Bluetooth device in "discover" mode?

You've probably seen and tried this, but take a look at this thread. Specifically the post about cycling options and power off and on.

From other posts, though, it definitely seems like it may be a hardware issue. Have you tried the Genius bar yet?

Hmmm.....I assumed you meant a headset!

It can't connect to other phones, iPods, etc. I'm not sure about all speakers. What were you trying to connect?

Ohhhh, I could have told you that if I had known. Not possible. There may be a way if you jailbreak both devices, but I'm not positive...

Can you explain this to me please? I know OpenSSH lets you access the phone on the computer (which I can do with the program "iPhone Explorer") What does OpenSSH offer that lets me fix the phone if it gets jacked up again?

Through programs such as WinSCP it can let you remove the corrupted app so you don't have to restore. Best thing to install.
If you want to spend money on theft protection Cylay is also a good app that can track your iPhone, send a message, turn on volume all the way even if it was on silent, and prevent shut down.

But.....how does that help when the computer doesn't recognize the iPhone, like in this past situation?

I'm pretty sure winscp can recognize it....Its been a while since I've played with that error.
