Good deals deserve "thumbs up," not crappy, mediocre ones.

I think Slickdeals is possibly the best deal site around. Slickdeals will loss it's reputation as a respectable, honest, and useful deal site if every single deals gets "thumbs up".

I have no idea how to prevent "deal peddlers" from peddling and purporting deals that are just really offers.

Slick deals means slick deals folks.:)

The concern is not about posting deals, it's about "deal peddlers."

To answer your questions:
1) No, no you should not consult me.
2) I do not know.

Please reply with helpful inputs...

okay, I'll bite. what are "deal peddlers"?
do you have any examples?

I'm sorry that you didn't find my response helpful but frankly your attitude seems a little arrogant.
everyone's opinion of what is a good/slick/Hot deal is different. maybe there are some deals that you didn't think were hot that others did think were hot.
If a deal is bad or not Hot it may get thumbs-down and/or eventually fade away by getting buried. these things have a way of working themselves out.

What is hot or not is subjective. I understand that. How I am to be viewed and interpreted is also subjective. You thought it appeared a little arrogant... interesting... I was just stating my honest thoughts...

This thread is just to balance out the Discouraging the "thumbs down maniac" thread so we may discuss both sides of the rating system. In my humble opinon, I feel it is more fair.:)

P.S. Could you please tell me what I said that made me appear arrogant? I'm always trying to improve myself. I'm really  :)

I guess it's just the words you used such as "crappy, mediocre, deal-peddling". I guess I just don't try to be the judge of whether others' deals are crappy or mediocre.
Like I said, some deals are hot to others, but not hot to you. I think to make that judgement is a little arrogant.

Well, I suppose I did come out a bit strong. But the issue still exist, "thumbs up maniac" is just as much as an issue as "thumbs down maniac." Most of the "deals" I see are thumbs up. What? Are people scare to thumb it down? If so many deals gets "thumbs up," then which are the really good ones? hmm... I dunno.

I like to suggest a new proposal: How about the moderators (or whoever are suitable) set a few standards on what are consider "good" deals. Perhaps there should be some kind of poll or vote so we can get the opinions of the masses.

Well, I suppose I have high expectations for things.. :lmao:

I'll try to be less critical and fault-finding, but just a tad, just.. a tad. :P

I said I might have came out a bit strong. I was referring to using "deal peddlers," and the other words you mentioned. And why do you keep asking me that? I don't track deal peddlers.

Peddlers: "a person who tries to promote some cause, candidate, viewpoint, etc." You can also consult Wikipedia for "Peddlers." Also, any dictionaries..

Btw, I suggested a new proposal. I think it was a good one; it would help prevent "deal peddling."

I personally have never seen a deal get too many thumbs up, if it is not worthy of having them. Usually the deals that have lots of positive reviews are deserving of them....lots of satisfied people. I am not sure why people should be discouraged from giving a thumbs up. I can understand it for the thumbs down.........some people do it just to be mean. But how can a deal have too many "positive" reviews?

We usually ban people who self promote their own shops by voting up or posting shills with multiple accounts. If it happens frequently enough, we'll block the merchant's url when feasible.

I didn't know users did it to be mean... thats mean.:(

Q: But how can a deal have too many "positive" reviews?
A:Interesting rhetorical question. For the opposite reason apparently, to be nice. And while this is nice and makes me :) , I think we should have at least some criteria on what are really good deals.

And let me not point out Amazon's abuse of "customer reviews."

I honestly have never seen many thumbs down ratings. It's hard to believe all deals can be good, because if that were true, then none would be good. They will all just be... normal.

How about a "super thumbs up"? ...if a deal is really good. A third rating and it will be worth two "thumbs up." This will skyrocket the really good ones from the ordinary and "yea, yea... wow, that is soo amazing  ...oh my goodness, I  hype..."

Aren't we all trying to make Slickdeals better for everyone? I think just a few criteria would be helpful to us all. Just a few pleasesssss.:)

Well then in the end, its Mr. Site Administrator's decision. I hope he sees how having some criteria would make Slickdeals more better than it already is.

"One should respect public opinion insofar as is necessary to avoid starvation and keep out of prison, but anything that goes beyond this is voluntary submission to an unnecessary tyranny."

Very interesting quote, and fits my views, though I'm not sure who this was directed towards. Edit: Oh, that was your signature.. ha

In case you didn't know, those are all reposts merged together, posted by unrelated people, thinking they are the first to post a deal, and not peddlers ;). Some deals have a lot more of those than the others :)
