Is it typically that when you order a nice cut of meat (lamb for instance) that the bone will comprise of at least 50% of the cut?

Did you order leg of lamb - then yes - leg of lamb comes on the bone

Unless you ordered lamb chops, and they are very petite in size

My filet mignon doesn't have any bone. :dontknow:

But my T-Bone steak does :annoyed:

Who the hellz is T-Bone the dog, the only dog I know of - is Clifford the Big Red Dog - and no - I would never eat him.

And, my Full Rack of wonderful Baby Back Ribs comes on the bone as well :eat:

Lol a cut of meat is what it is....this is a very dumb and pointless question. If you want a cut that doesnt have a bone in it...then order a DIFFERENT cut that doesnt have a bone in it.

My cut of meat is too expensive. And it's bone in ;)

Yes, it's typical. The whole point to it being a nicer cut of meat is that it's fattier and is near the bone marrow, which both of these make a more savory and tender cut of meat...

Did you chew on the bone? I don't like restaurants that try to be all proper and frown on me picking up the bone with some meat left on it like a T-bone steak usually has and biting the meat off the bone. It's not like I am slurping and letting the juice fly. Just enjoying the moment and my dinner.

Nah, I save that for home where I can take off my shirt and go to town and not be judged by others.

if it's leg of lamb or osso buco (sp?), then there'll be a lot of bone. for bone-in steaks, it shouldn't have that much bone. for bone-in pork chops, it should not have a lot of bone either.

what exactly did you order that had 50% bone?

It was some part of the lamb. Very good but such bone that took up 50% of the mass.

Not all cuts of meat with a bone in it take up 50% of the mass beef jerky.

SOB, you mentioned Filet Mignon - yesterday I was at the food store buying pork loin and having it cut and trimmed to size for chops - and asked them when Filet Mignon was going on sale - down to my last four pieces - and they told me they didn't know :annoyed:

Today I got the food store sale ads in for next week - Filet Mignon on sale :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: That means it's time to stock up :yummy: :eat: :yummy: Gotta love that food sealer :D

So you have no idea what you ordered, yet you are here complaining about it having too much bone in it

When I make a whole leg of lamb, yep, it's got a whole lot of bone in it

Even if it was half a leg of lamb, it would have a whole lot of bone it in

Like I said, even with lamp chops, which are tiny and petite, they have bone around them, just like a pork chop would have, only much smaller in size with the bone.

You need to go to a good food store, with a good butcher meat area, and study the displays they have on this - and "learn" - and look at the products in the display cases - and then, and only then - are you allowed to go to a restaurant and order something to eat :whip:

You shouldn't worry. They only charge you for the meat. They throw in the bone for free.

The butcher or chef should have accounted for the size of the bone when they were portioning off the meat. They wouldn't give you less meat than anyone else.

Was there marrow in that bone? If there was, I hoped you had some of it!

If you put aside all the meat, how much do you think you got?

I had to stay in town for a business dinner this week. The table was very diverse, with a couple of the sort that prefer salad to anything with eyes or legs.

I chose the veal chop (which I previously didn't know existed)

A few in the rubber bedsheets crew were horrified. To me it was 2" of rabble rousing goodness.

LOL....of course! The OP mentioned it was 50/50 bone and meat!:lmao:

I'm talking actual amount of meat in weight or portion size. If the amount of meat was between 10-16 oz of lamb meat, that's a good serving size portion then.
