Hi
I'm trying to edit AVDHD video on my MacBook Air and it just freezes in final cut pro...it can play 5 seconds of video and then the screen goes green but sometimes I can still here the audio. Also, the audio and video tends to be out of sync. Is the computer too weak or something? Would my Sony Vaio VPC-EE23FX make a difference? Thanks

What resolution and bitrate is your video? Can you play the video smoothly without the audio/video going out of sync? Have you tried editing a smaller file? Freezing and green screen doesn't sound normal. If all else fails bring it to a Apple store to get it checked out.

avchd is VERY Cpu intensive. It is most likely a cpu bottleneck, if not ram.

Youtube videos are pretty low bitrate and you have the benefit of GPU acceleration. Since it can't playback the video normally it sounds like your MacBook is too slow. The only part I find odd is that it freezes and goes to a green screen? Does the system completely lock up? or just the app?

my i7 - 950 can barely play a 1080p30 video smoothly, heck editing it is hard too without sony vegas. I'm pretty sure it's your cpu bottlenecking.

Just the app. The app turns green... I have to exit out. And whats a good setting for my camera then? 24p @ 1080P?

I doubt 24p @ 1080P will work either.. try 720P..
You might want to consider trying another video editing program or do it on your Sony :(

If you're just cutting segments and such you can use Handbrake to convert the video to a lower quality and maybe be able to do the simple edits on your MacBook Air with iMove/Final Cut Pro.
For noise removal I use Audacity: http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/Noise_Removal
You have to export the audio from your video before you can use Audacity. After the edits are done you can merge them back later. I used Audacity to remove some static buzz from a musical clip recorded on a Canon T1i. While it wasn't perfect, it definitely made the noise less noticeable.

Thanks so just to let you guys know. I went ahead and purchased a MacBook Pro..its 15 inches and I got the i7 one (it was the most powerful one they had) and I upgraded the harddrive to a 120gb SSD (I was short on cash but I figured this would make it faster) and the laptop has 4gb of ram...will it work npw? I was going to try but its really a pain converting and then finding out it wont work. Do I need a more powerful computer lol because if I do then I figured I'd just trying recording on a very low quality.
