Any way you could start a forsale by member section? I don't mean a section that will be filled with e-bay links but one for members to directly sell items?

For example, I want to get rid of a bunch of old comic books but I'm not going to post them in the Hot Deal section as I'm selling them...

We have the "no self-promotion" policy, but I've often wondered about this. I personally think it woul be an excellent idea. Of course, SD wouldn't be responsible for any transactions that took place, and a rating system of some sort would be nice, but I could see it working well. The only possible problems I could see would be people taking out their problems with past purchases in other areas of the boards, or vice versa. But I think the chances of that happening much are very slim.

Try craigslist.

also check here: http://www.slickdeals.net/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=13202

as far as direct sales, I don't like the idea of a forum being a structure for business transactions. there are venues far better constructed for this kind of thing - amazon used sales, ebay, half.com, just to name a few - which have mechanisms in place to protect the users and ensure legitimacy of the transaction.

there is also the not-so-small matter of advertising, fees, credibility of the sellers and buyers, etc.

Right, that's why I thought having a community for that would be the answer!

Although I see the reasons for not having this forum here, I sell stuff on a forum that is very well known. Here is an example of a selling/trading forum that I sell/trade on: http://forums.anandtech.com/categories.aspx?catid=45&entercat=y

For the rating system, they use www.heatware.com

I have 4 feedbacks from transactions.

I just sold my AIW 9800 Pro, Far Cry, Knights of the Old Republic, and a SD Card there.

Bit of advice:

1) Be very specific on your item. Don't be vague.

2) You may be asked to ship first. So, check up on your buyer. Talk to people the person dealt with previously. Especially if it's a good sum of money.

3) Make sure you bump your item once in a while. But you can ONLY bump your own item once every 4 hours. Others will bump for you once in a while if they like it.

4) Sign up at Heatware.com if you plan on selling more often. That feedback is gold there. They don't care about your Ebay feedback rating.

No problem. It's much cheaper than Ebay (free).

although...

what do you guys think about posting links to your online classifieds in the lounge... that is what if I have a listing on ebay or craigslist for an xbox game or something?? I know that it isn't done or that ppl who have posted links to ebay auctions have jokingly been told "no self promo"

but I would be more inclined to buy something used from an SD'er (well a select hadful of SD'ers) who claims that it is in good working condition than some shmuck on ebay who I do'nt know who claims that the item is in good working condition.

what do you guys think???

I like this idea. I sell stuff on Ebay and Anandtech. I would love to have a forum where I could bring that stuff to the attention of Slickdealers.

basically just a forum to put other SD'ers on notice of things you are pawning off on other sites.... you agree that might be worth a try????

what about anyone else??

I think this would work. It's a pretty good idea.

I don't really like it. There are a lot of other forums that do this sort of thing, and quite a few of them are fairly rife with scammers and such. Anandtech has a bunch of threads warning people about how they got scammed by certain users and etc. It's more trouble than it's worth, in my opinion.

I'd say just use Heatware.

This is why this site would not be used to actually sell the item. For example, I have a 6800 GT video card for sale here:

bad idea, IMHO

first, why are we all on this site? to save money.
second, when you buy something to sell it, what is your goal? to make as much money as possible.

those two points alone make this a bad idea. go to ebay or one of the other sites mentioned to sell stuff.

come here to save money. go somewhere else to make money.

I think, if nothing else, we should be able to list our ebay "Items for sale by user" page in our profiles. That would be a bare minimum though.
