This thread in the freebie forum http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?sduid=51048&t=381555 has been tagged by a mod with the line, "Don't promote lying". I think that this excellent bit of advice should be applied to ALL freebie threads. After reading through some of the threads today, in which one member in particular admitted to lying in order to obtain items for re-sell, it occured to me that we all need to think about this. Would it be possible for a mod to sticky such a reminder at the top of the forum? Of course, I am sure all of the jerks out there who lie to obtain free itmes will keep on doing precisley that, but it would still be nice to have such a reminder, IMO. :) Thanks!

Isn't there something that can be done about those people who admit to lying to receive a freebie? I know there are many offers for business that you do not have to put a company name in and such but I mean for example, if someone admits they are 27 and lie about their age to join the WRInsiders to get points/prizes. People like that ruin it for those who are honest, if you don't qualify for something by being honest then it most likely wasn't intended for you in the first place, right? (not directing at OP just at SDers in general) I agree with ya fizz

The only thing you could do is warn them but then they would just not admit it next time. At least the people who post are joining in. Becuse alot of users who are not members also get on these deals as it is a open forum.

I know I came across a post in the lounge where a guy was talking about reselling on e-bay. Is there a way to know who these people are on e-bay? I know probably not but I wish there was so that people on SD could be sure not to buy from them on e-bay

Good suggestion, but I don't think it would really accomplish anything. I mean, people already know they're not supposed to lie or cheat to get things.

Nope, you just have to take it with stride.

Actually, I think one of the re-sellers was discovered in a freebie thread, and the auction they had posted was found on ebay.

The following is at the end of the Freebies Rules:
Do not promote lying in order to receive an offer that you otherwise would not qualify for. It's morally not right, and most of the times, it's against the companies TOS agreement and is not allowed here.

Thanks Kel. Would it be possible to perhaps draw attention to that, in light of some recent events in the freebie forum? Maybe a mod could "bump" or highlight the thread?

I don't think a reminder is going to change anyone's morals. :(

I have a question. Would it also be considered lying if you are signing up on an offer that clearly states for you to put in a business name, but people have done it without and it goes through? I mean, if a company is asking for a business name and the offer appears to be for business, if you don't have a business name to put in then it's lying right? You don't really have a business therefore don't need to fill out business freebie offers.
Sorry if this offends anyone, but I've seen a lot of offers that the OP will say is for businesses but 2-3 posts down someone will say you do not have to put in a business name. I feel that this is lying and should not be approved. To me it is not really any different from lying about your age or qualifying info to get an offer.
Any other opinions on this?

In my moral opinion (IMMO), yeah, it's lying. If you have to lie, in order to get something that you can't get being honest, it's lying & cheating the company/offer.
I'd have to see what the other Mods think of this, in order for us to be on the same page & act as one.

Thanks Kel_be, I didn't want to Mod Alert anything like this cause I wasn't really sure.

Let me get the opinions of the other Mods, see where they stand, and let you know. It might take a little bit.

:iagree: I think that signing up for anything that does not pertain to you or a close/friend family member is fraud.
