This is a little cut out from a digg style mockup of slickdeals I made. Just thought I'd share it!

Basically it's on the basis of users "clipping" deals (instead of digging). The boxes there that show deals show the amount of clips or lack thereof and some other info. The title with the root of the deal's website under it with the expiration date in red. On the right in the darkened area is the price and its factors. The big number is the final price after all discounts are applied. On the left of that are the factors which brought the price down.

Its designed around being an organized submission with these price factors and everything being selected from a premade list rather then typed (A/R $50!!! 90% ofF!11!!). So under the detailed display of the deal these could be seen with specific values and what not.

Anyway that's about all I have to say about it, thought I'd post it to see what you guys thought! :)

Doesn't the rating system have the same idea?

I think Digg is a great site, I have been a member since it started. It would be great if slickdeals was kinda like Digg. Very nice idea.

Sure but its not really a direct part of the site if you know what I mean. With this it becomes a main feature and gets rid of the whole forum based deal submission.

and i dont even know what to say to doggy style slickdeals... :P

I think this is fantastic. With this "clipping" system, the users are the ones who promote deals to the front page. Only admins can promote deals to the front page right now.

Exactly, and let's face it there are a lot of nice deals in the forums that don't make it to the front. Plus more deals would be submitted simply because it's easier (filling out a simple form and copying a link, instead of writing a post).

random.

It looks nice but I like the forums.

I'd love to see this site go away from the forums style and do a digg styled site.

If it was to be set up like digg I'd expect to see:
- Deals being posted on main page due to interest like digg and the rating system here
- Comments instead of forum threads
- link checking like digg, help to remove dupes and create cleaner database
- a rep like system similar to diggs comment digging where you can rate comments allowing the spamming, flaming and all to be buried by readers and not remaining as the first comment to the thread.

Pipe dream? Or possible?

I know this is old, but I figured its better to bump up previous feelings on the issue rather than start a new similar topic.

It's a lot of work to implement a "digg style" for this website.
