Would it be possible to have a sticky in the Contest forum that could show all contests expiring that day?

I'm not sure how it would work given that some posters don't even include the expiration date, but it would be nice if there was a way to do it. The search engine doesn't cut it.

I'm not sure how that would work. Someone would have to put A LOT of time into posting each day and going through all the contests. I don't think theres an automatic way of doing it.

stickying only the ones that are expiring today would be hard because it's a daily task. it's not that hard to scan the thread titles. we just have to rely on the OP to include the expiration date on the thread title. so far a very high percentage do.

I do NOT volunteer for that job! That would be way too time consuming for me, and any of the other Mods.

Have you thought about using your own personal stickies?

...The search engine doesn't cut it.

Have you tried using a multi-prong approach like this?

Searching in the Contests & Sweepstakes forum only
+
Searching in thread titles only
+
Using the date for the keyword (e.g. 3/28)

If you go to the Contests & Sweepstakes (http://forums.slickdeals.net/forumdisplay.php?s=&daysprune=30&f=25) forum and click on "Search this Forum" a little search window will drop down, as seen here (http://i.slickdeals.net/attachment.php?attachmentid=34542&stc=1&d=1175133803). Make sure the "Search in Thread Titles Only" box is checked, just like it was in that last screen shot (http://i.slickdeals.net/attachment.php?attachmentid=34542&stc=1&d=1175133803). Lastly, type in the date-- for example, 3/28 (you can use 3/28 or 3 28, but not 3-28).

Using this method, I came up with 25 search results (http://i.slickdeals.net/attachment.php?attachmentid=34544&stc=1&d=1175133825) for the search term 3/28. A couple were from 2006, but those were towards the end. I then changed the keyword from 3/28 to 3/28/07 and got 16 search results (http://i.slickdeals.net/attachment.php?attachmentid=34541&stc=1&d=1175133197). So you see, I have found about 15 contests that end on 3/28/07. Of course the search can work too good sometimes-- when I tried 4/1/07 it came up with results with 4/1/07 and 4/10/07. But sifting through the search results for the 4/1/07 threads is easy at that point because the date is right there in the title. :)

Although far from perfect, searching this way can increase your entries for ending contests. As a matter of fact, I think I am going to start doing this now. :biggrin2:

Let me know if you have any questions about this search method.

And the only reason I mention this option is because although the idea of a sticky updating itself daily is really great, I would imagine the coding for this software would be nightmare, if it is even possible.

:iagree: I noticed that many people do put the date in the title.

Agreed! TMK, would you pleeeeease go post somewhere that we can rep you?!?
(*grumble....darn selfless people, not posting in reppable forums and thus not allowing others to give them what we feel is their due..../grumble* :D)
