I've noticed that there is a delay sometimes. It's usually 30 minutes or so but occasionally it has taken longer.

There's a ~90 minute period where searches are saved. If you search for the same thing (ex: your recent posts), it will show you that search.

You should see something like " Search took 0.60 seconds; generated 25 minute(s) ago. " in the upper-right hand.

To add to this. Every time you search, a new id for your specific search is generated. Next time you search, it's checked whether your search is a duplicate of your earlier search, and has not expired yet (I believe it's 15 minutes right now). The best way to recognize that you are getting an old search result, is to check your searchid in the browser URL field: if in "searchid=XXXXXXX" the XXXXXXX remains the same, when you resubmit the search, you are getting an old set of responses.
