View Full Version : Mod POst Deletions Disconcerting

I made a post in the front-pager deal today with the towels. Many users were posting complaints about the normal "someone bought 100 and ruined the deal for everyone else" thing. I posted what I thought was a thoughtful hint to newbies that oftentimes people will post that to start a ruckus. That post and several others just disappeared... poof. No mod posting saying things were out of line and further posts regarding stockups would be deleted or anything.
Is there a new policy in force, or was this a coincidental technical glitch? If so, before we spend time generating what we believe are helpful posts on SD, what are the guidelines? I appreciate all the hard work mods put in, but at the very least we need a post in the threads that deletions are going on 1) so that people don't repeat the posts and create further work for mods in the same thread and 2) put more experienced people like me on notice that any info we have to sooth things over or explain what is going on isn't wanted and we shouldn't waste our time posting it.

most time if there's just one person creating a ruckus we'll just warn, and delete anything related ot it. only if its really flagrant and we want to make sure that it won't go down that road again will we bother making a note that we've deleted posts..
some people might be a little confused when posts dissappear and sorry your post got lost in the muddle mess, but for the most part it works. just mod alerting the thread will be the best help

i too have just had this happen...although i spoke to the mod, i dont think my post was worthy of deletion. i respect the fact that he/she had to delete it, i just dont feel that it was delete worthy. is there any way that this can be appealed. i know i am blowing something minute out of proportion but i am sick of all the times people crack a joke with me and i take it, then i crack a small joke with someone else and poof *gone*

we do not read every post. and we don't have extremly strict rules where if you say x you'll get deleted.
if its a joke and people take it as such, we won't do anything.
if the other people takes offense.. and mod alerts it. .we delete/warn. reminder.. thousands of you.. <10 of us. we don't hold grudges against the vast majority of you. .and we honeslty have no idea we've warned/deleted your posts in the past.

but i mean my post was clearly a joke. i wasn't flaming a bad post viciously i even said "Just kidding" right after it and repped the person a few hrs later. i mean come on.
I feel i've been "imus-ed" <too soon to use his name as a verb?>

you can tell its clearly a joke. jokes are in the eye of the beholder... if someone its directed at takes offense.. we deal with it.

Arjunsr i mean look at it yourself. the op posted tucows as a "freebie" i said in the next post
"can i post download.com
Just kidding"
was that offensive? or clearly not a joke?
we don't hold grudges against the vast majority of you.
I guess that I am in the vast minority then?

Personally, I'd rather just see my post go *poof* and disappear rather than see it get deleted, AND get warned on top of it!

:iagree:
Sometimes a post is offensive or bothersome to someone else, but isn't worth a warn. This way both people are basically happy.

also there are a lot of times when they are replying to something that was deleted and warned.

That's probably the most common and most likely scenario. In an attempt to clean up someone else's posts, a few innocent ones may get lost in the effort.
