Hey, I got a great idea for this website. How about you add a counter to each slick deal listed, in a way that users can show that they purchased that particular slick deal. It would be nice to see how many people have purchased each slick deal.

how do you verify such an action though? Seems one user could skew it pretty considerably.

Sure, it wouldnt be 100% accurate. You could implement it in a way that web polls are, and log IP addresses for each voter so they don't vote multiple times. All web polls are skewed, but they still seem to be useful, and entertaining at worst. I would think that the slick deals crowd would be more interested in seeing it work, so they would be more inclined to not try to skew it.

thanks for the compliment on my juggling balls, I made it myself :D. I agree that people lie, but I think most people would find it in their own best interest to not lie in this situation. I may have an optomisty view on this, but that shouldn't be a good enough reason to not add the feature.

I guess my original thoughts were that it wouldn't simply indicate how many users had acted on the deal but also the quantity of said item(s) they purchased. I guess I was looking at it more along the lines of how many items purchased and not simply how many purchasers.

You are absolutely right in the IP verification. But ultimately I guess it depends on Mr Slick having time to implement such a feature.

agreed. One man can only do so much.

I agree that it would be a good idea, even if it wan't remotely accurate per deal, it would still give you a basis to compare the quantity of users going after one deal vs. another
P.S. Love the juggling, I made my icon myself too :)

Hmm, its a cool idea. how about if it was limited to registered users and only one vote was allowed per person. You could even include a poll with each post saying
*I received this item at the slickdeals price
*I ordered by my order got canceled
*not available (out of stock)

Seems like about all of them fall into those categories.

i would be interested in seeing how many items were purchased because of this site. so like the mp3 player or boots i would have liked to known how many were ordered (so people who buy max to re sell at ebay or give as gifts). might be an easier said then done, but if you do limit it to registered users, who would be so lame as to fake results on something like this?

I could name a couple names, but i wont. I think the # of items purchased is easier said than done. Just including a poll would be simple to do and hard to skew results.

I think this is a great idea - especially if there was an option sayign something like this isn't worth it or this is a not a good deal etc. I think it would be informative at the least... The registered users rule is definately needed and I think seeing a percentage of those who did actually do it is cool. I dont think it would be that skewed - maybe some people will lie - but what's the point really?

Well said "cgbwheeler". Now we just need to convince mr. slickdeals to do it :-)
