Dog chew toys that don't get them in trouble: Add your dog's favorites! (Thanks, daisee)
1. Fun stuff
- We leave empty cardboard boxes for the dogs to chew up. Also these (http://slickdeals.net/?sduid=199124&sdtid=513505&sdfid=7&u2=http://www.uniquedogclothing.com/chewfah-loofah-bones.html) loofah bones (cleans their teeth while they rip them apart) and TONS of cat toys (with catnip). (from veritableqndry)
2. Hard-to-destroy stuff
-At dollar tree they carry "milkbone" toys... she beats the hell out of them and still they hold up. (not to mention their only a buck if they destroy them) (from wakethewicked2)
- I've had good luck with these -- the avatar dog has destroyed everything but this kind. They come in different sizes and shapes and you can put treats inside for them to dig out: http://www.petmountain.com/produc...-kong.html (http://slickdeals.net/?sduid=169549&sdtid=513505&sdfid=7&u2=http://www.petmountain.com/produc...-kong.html) . I get mine at a local farm store, but I'm sure you could get them at places like Pets Mart if you don't want to buy online. (from callpocket)
- Here are a couple that have survived Sophie so far:
Busy Buddy bouncy bone (http://slickdeals.net/?sduid=199124&sdtid=513505&sdfid=7&u2=http://www.amazon.com/Premier-Busy-Buddy-Bouncy-Medium/dp/B000KVF49Q)- We gave up on the rawhide inserts. She rips those out in seconds but likes the toy without them anyhow and cannot kill it.)
Everlasting treat ball (http://slickdeals.net/?sduid=199124&sdtid=513505&sdfid=7&u2=http://www.petfooddirect.com/store/product1.asp?pf_id=212100802&cm_mmc_o=2mHlCjCVdKCjCVdK2tzEEwklCjCWR2RJVRW&zmam=90031077&zmas=13&zmac=74&zmap=212100802)-Again she pulls out the expensive inserts right off the bat...but she likes bouncing the toy. You can also hide dog kibble in the middle for the dog to try to get out, which entertains him for awhile. She hasn't managed to rip this one at all yet even though it feels soft and flexible.
Jolly Ball: (http://slickdeals.net/?sduid=199124&sdtid=513505&sdfid=7&u2=http://www.amazon.com/Jolly-Pet-Teaser-Ball-Blue/dp/B0002ARYY8/ref=cm_lmf_tit_1_rdssss0) - Ours is bigger than the one at this link. It's hysterical to see her stick her snout in the hole and wave the ball in the air. It's bigger than her head. She runs around the house with it on her snout, growling and acting like a maniac. I don't know why she can't chew it up, but she can't.
Then there are big Nylabones, which she can kill eventually. But they take a long time to die. (from olu)

Aw, I hate it when mine does this! This week she learned to open the cereal carousel cabinet and pull out boxes of cereal too....
I'll have to post pics tomorrow. He's done quite a job on the stair side.
Oh, definitely. If only because it will make the rest of us feel so much better about our own destructo dogs in comparison :D

not today... he only broke out of the house and ran away...
But in the last week... he discovered that if he rips the comforter in his kennel, there is this cool white fluffy stuff to pull out that sticks to his fur... and cause him not to poop right... for the last week
Saturday.. I was sleeping he did the same thing to the comforter on the bed... I do not know how I slept through it. I woke up when I rolled in something wet and stickey, I thought he had thrown up.. nope it was blanket stuffing.. which is way better.. when I turned on the lights... It looked like there had been a freak snow storm that had left splotches of white all over the room....
Looking for a Slick Deal for a new comforter... The "good" ones are up on a shelf for when I can trust him again...

my oldest is no problem but sometimes he will find his way into my woodworking shop, grab a random piece of wood and start chewing.

my dog ate a rabbit poop this morning. puked it out then ate it again. that was a nice scene early in the morning.
my dog doesn't chew on anything that's not his "knock on wood" I have been finding left over chewing ropes in his poop. he actually pooped a whole section of the rope at once. it looked kinda cool.

Two days ago my dog (a Boston Terrier) decided to eat three quarts of strawberries. Of course he couldn't sneak and eat them when I got home--he waited until I spend an hour to wash, take the hulls off and slice them.
Then he went outside and at the berries off the vine--what is up with that? No jam for our family this week :(

My youngest ate an asphault shingle once - you know the ones that shingle your roof?
Well I noticed her hacking up some black "stuff" and was like "WTF did you eat?" then I found the shingle. She puked quite a bit the rest of the night, then drank some water and was right as rain the next day.
It's amazing what dogs can eat and be fine.....

my wife has had the unfortunate pleasure of pulling poop out of my dogs' butts - they eat rope (one of their toys is rope), then they have a hard time squeezing it out (think - pearl necklace) and she helps them by pulling on it.

LOL - The mod who deleted it even sent me a copy of the thread because the comments were so damn funny. I find you can learn alot about an animals personality by what they eat. Apparently, she prefers garth brooks to megadeth - she left the hubbys cd's alone and only ate my megadeth ones, she doesn't like my shoes, and apparently she likes snow, due to the fact that one of her favorite past times is running through the house with an open box of potato flakes.
Potato flake snow? I won't give mine any ideas.
Oh and also: I entered the tally too soon for today. Addition: Dead fish, eaten and rolled in at the lake, resulting in yelling, then a bath and more yelling.

Ok, so far this week my dog has eaten 2lbs of chocolate and almost died, his own poop, the cat's poop, the poop on the cats butt(he likes it?), some sugar free gum(during the 30seconds it took me to pee) and quite a few other things. All of these veterinarians who say that there are tons of human foods that are deadly to dogs, they gotta be wrong, cuz my dog is stilll eating all the so called poisonous stuff and is still alive. Believe me, we dont' leave it aroudn intentionally but it happens and he eats whatever he can get his paws on. Including but not limited to *poop* of any sort from any person, or animal.

Sounds like your dog is missing some sort of nutrient it's trying to get by eating it's own poop and the kitty roca. Have you tried switching foods?
Back when my dog was still alive (r.i.p. bubbybaby :sadwalk:), she once ate an entire box of mangoes. We used to leave them in the box on the kitchen floor, and we'd keep her confined to the kitchen when we'd go out, but we'd done it for years without incident. One afternoon we came home, opened the door, and the entire kitchen was ORANGE. Literally, from the first step in, all the way to the other side (huge kitchen too), and there were mango skins all over the place. When she finally came sauntering over, she was covered, head to toe, in mango. Her whole muzzle was stiff with juice, and her ears... my god... (cocker spaniel.. so she had big 'ol floppy ears) they were so gross. That little bugger was brilliant though. She cleaned every single mango pit totally clean, and ate all the fruit off the skins, leaving large chunks of totally cleaned skins all over the floor. That dog was a born foodie.
I miss her. :crying2:

I just saw this. Oh, bad dog, eating an expensive shoe!!
What my dog ate today: Nothing--what a relief. We gate off the parts of the house where she can get in trouble when we're gone. So today somehow the bedroom door got left open. Came home and there were items from the bedroom dresser tops scattered around the house--athletic ankle brace, alarm clock etc.--but nothing even had a chew mark in it. I shudder to imagine the possible carnage since she can open cabinets and drawers and could chew a down comforter as soon as look at it. Judging by the nest of light fur on the dark red duvet cover, it does looks like she made herself at home on the comforter. But the important thing is, she didn't eat it.

:rofl2: Dogs are siwwy.
:rofl2: Dogs are siwwy.
And fuzzy :) Can't help being nuts about mine even though she has shredded or swallowed many of our worldly possessions.
Today: Nothing again! Am starting to think there is hope after all.

When I was growing up our dog ate (in one day):
-a 10lb. bag of potatoes (bag included);
-a BIG (32oz.?) jar of French's mustard;
-ALL of my dad's bolts, screws, brackets, and other fasteners (he had them in an organizer and she chewed that all up, too, and no I'm not going to say "my dog ate my dad's nuts");
-3/4 of a motorcycle seat; and
-drank a bottle of Clorox bleach.
Never missed a beat. She also used to chase croquet balls and eat crabapples like they were going out of style.

What I am glad my dog did not eat today--a rattlesnake
True story I heard today from our vet. It happened at another clinic in town:
A 150 pound dog got bitten by a snake. The owner took it to the clinic for help and they weren't sure what kind of snake bit him. So they hadn't decided yet whether to administer antivenom. It's expensive--costs some 400 bucks a vial, and a big dog like this would need 3--so you want to be sure. They were going to wait till the swelling started or try to find some other way to figure out what bit him.
Well, they found another way. The dog threw up a giant rattlesnake right there at the clinic! He must have been pretty mad at that snake after it bit him. Handy he brought the evidence along so they knew exactly what bit him then. They administered the antivenom, and he survived the experience.

Bad, bad dog. She has chewed through the outside phone line that serves all but one phone jack. Turns out the line ran right by her favorite lurking spot outside the house. All she had to do was lounge around there and chew through our lifeline to the outside world. (This would explain why the phone and internet service has been on and off this week....)
Have to hire someone to come rewire the lines--up high, running over the doorframes where she can't reach her jaws of destruction.

That makes me wonder... We have 3 phone jacks that used to work, and now they dont. They havent worked for some time. I thought maybe it was when we changed from Bellsouth, to the cable company.... But Bear has a history of chewing wires...like the trailer wires on our truck.... hmmmm :scratchh:

And I bet Bear ate those phone wires. Word has it these things are tasty.

What it turns out my dog has not been eating: A rope hammock in the backyard. Last one got ripped up and I was sure it was her. Got a new one for Mother's Day and put cayenne spray on it to protect it from her. Just now I looked outside, and there was a cute little ROBIN...ripping the hell out of my hammock. Thief!! He wanted the string for a nest, I guess. Stinkin' robin.

They all get along swell. The two year old.. likes to taunt Gus, and run away and then acts all suprised when he gets knocked on his booty by a dog that is as big as he is.. The baby, will quietly creep up, and grab a handfull of fur... also uses Gus to stand up, and occasionally will get a mouthfull of fur and bite him (teething) which Gus does not seem to mind...
Today..
Gus decided to help me take all the blue painter's tape off the trim in the halway..
It needs one more coat, but He probably thinks it looks fine.. I found little bits of blue tape all over the hallway, kitchen, and his kennel...

:wave2: Hi Peachyum, thanks for the smile. Glad to contribute some laughs at the expense of my worldly goods and peace of mind! At least when she eats something we wanted I have a silver lining moment: "Oh, I can post this on SD!"
Creepy thing is, lately she has eaten nothing (except poop :vomit: ) we don't want her to. Her new thing is to walk up with something not hers, unharmed, and gently drop it on my lap. Recent examples include my husband's wrist mount GPS unit, a pair of nice swim googles, my favorite hair scrunchie, all carried all the way across the house to me..... She gives them to me with a look that says, "You really shouldn't leave this lying around--Somebody might eat it" and walks off looking angelic. Really she must be sick.
"What my dog dropped on my lap today" just doesn't have the same ring to it. :shake: Good thing other people's dogs are picking up the slack till mine becomes her usual horrible self again. Thanks, all you bad dogs out there!
Eerie. While I cruised SD and typed about the good dog she seemed to be becoming, she brought me a slightly damp junk mail envelope, dropped it a few feet away from me, and took off.
Cute, I thought.
Nope. Just a tip off that downstairs she has raided the mail basket and has just EATEN AN UNOPENED LETTER addressed to my husband, a real letter he actually needed. There's about a third of it left now. Wet, too. Bad dog.

Legs and arms off a little porcelain ballerina doll. And messed its hair up something awful. Into the trash it goes.

3 dogfood breakfasts & 3 dogfood dinners. We have houseguests. I fed her like usual really early. Bear has been really good lately , except for for the last 3 night I hear him at 3am chewing on a bone... that he obviously hides somewhere because I can never find it.
So I hear chomp chomp- he's really loud, then about 3:30 he starts whining to go out... that sad pitiful whine.... :(
----
My cat Shadow climbed into the takeout bag tonight trying to steal a chicken bone
I told her there isnt a "What my cat ate today thread".
-----
Tomorrow Bear has to go to the Vet for his annual booster shots.....
I assume we will be making a stop at Three Dog Bakery afterwards.... He is so Spoiled.
Oh joy, I finally get to partake of the "what my dog ate" thread. Well, he eats lots of sticks and bark. We heat with wood, so there will always be wood laying around for him to chew on. As long as he doesn't start grabbing burning sticks from the fireplace it shouldn't be a problem.
We've been watching him 24/7, so he hasn't been able to get into too much trouble. We did give him one of those "greenies" treats.... holy moley, what's in those things? Doggie crack? He goes nuts whenever he hears anything resembling the wrapper containing the greenie he ate 3 days ago.

Dog Eats More than $800 in Cash
You won't see a halo over Pepper Ann's head.
Not that the eight-year-old Lab-German shorthair mix isn't loveable, it's just that see seems to find trouble without even trying.
"She's always been naughty, and when she was little it was 'you're lucky you're so cute, you'd be gone otherwise.' But she's just a cute little dog. She has personality, but she has issues also," owner Debbie Hulleman said.
One of those issues is a tendency to swallow anything that fits in her mouth.
"She's eaten lipstick, so lipstick gets all over the carpet, ball point pens all over the carpet, toothpaste, shampoo," Hulleman recalled. "She's done a lot, Kleenex, she'll eat a whole box of Kleenex if she can get it."
Recently, Pepper Ann topped even those feats. She and her sibling Zach were at Grandma's house, while Debbie and her husband were on vacation. Grandma had a friend over, who left a purse on the ground despite instructions not to leave anything in Pepper Ann's reach.
When the two women woke up, the dog had dug into the purse, and devoured more than $800 cash.
Some pieces were spread around the house — and some were left in the backyard, after Peppy swallowed the money and did her business.
"Pretty soon (I) came to a pile, that had a fifty dollar bill hanging out, part of a fifty, and I said 'gosh, look at that,'" Hulleman laughed. "There were lots of piles with money hanging out there, so I had to save it, rinse it, strain it."
The dog owner taped together the remnants she recovered, and swapped the mangled bills for more than $700 bucks worth of fresh currency at a local bank.
Hulleman is hanging on to half a one hundred dollar bill, in hopes she will recover the other portion. She is less optimistic that Pepper Ann will turn over a new leaf.
"She goes from room to room, looking to get into trouble."

Bear isnt supposed to be left to roam free in the house if we're gone.
He goes into his cage until we get home. But apparently my husband didnt shut the door.
I opened up the back door and, guess who is waiting to run out the door.
So while we were gone, Bear ate all the cat food in both kitty bowls, and some "goodies" out of the Kitty box. :yuk:

Oh, they get along great! They are always together.
The dog just has a complete hair toy fetish. Sometimes she steals my hair scrunchies and hides them under her dog bed and licks them. If I'm lucky I catch her before she moves to stage 2 and kills them. :)
