View Full Version : Rep points not counting??

I ran a search for answers to this and didn't find anything...Hopefully someone can answer my question as I'm really curious...
According to my control panel, I've received 3 positive rep points, but my rep count is only at 11. One was for an OP, and the other two were for replies. I've read that both will add points, and I've seen it happen when I've given points to others for helpful replies. Is this some kind of new math, or am I just being dense? ;) :

was there a grey box next to any of them? i forget how you get a grey box but those don't count.

Yes, two of them were with gray boxes. I assumed that it's because they're replies and not an OP. But I've given lots of points for helpful replies, refreshed, and saw the rep count increase by one -- that's why I'm confused.
If someone knows the reason for the gray boxes, I am curious to know...

found it. grey rep pts are from people new to the boards. after they become regular members (post more) i think they become real pts.
one thing i found out is that if a mod approves of a post it gets 3 points instead of the regular 1.

Thank you!! :worship: That mystery was bugging me...
Your research is appreciated. A rep point for the mod.. ;)
Edit: Darn! Rep points aren't enabled for this forum. Kind of weird since problems are solved here. Well, I tried...

Check your control panel settings. You know, SlickDeals control panel.

some people didnt get it enabled when it was turned on, like cookiemonster said, just enable it in your usercp
usc-people asked for some measure of a persons value to the boards other than post counts since people in the lounge have much higher post counts than deal only people.

I saw that some members had negative rep points (as many as -22). How does one merit negative rep points (bad deals or flaming posts)?

when it was first introduced (when we moved to vb 2) people could give out negative rep points. but it became a pt war with people a little afraid of posting if they were going to get neg pts and such. this time round only mods can give neg rep pts, not that we would really.

...except Irons...
I, for one, like the new method much better.

Do you know how many posts a person has to make before they are considered a "regular" in regards to rep points?

I would like to know too. I've noticed that about 75% of my rep points aren't being counted towards my total. At what post total does someone's rep point that they leave for me count?
There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it. One person left me a rep point in the "find a deal" forum, and he has 65 posts, and it counted. Another user left me a rep point in the same forum, has 67 posts, and it doesn't count.

I mistated it. The one with 65 POSTS since June '04, the one with 67 POSTS since October '04. The one who has been a member since June, his rep points counted. The one who joined in October, his rep points do not count towards my total.
There must be some kind of programming logic that decides what counts and what doesn't.

must have been in a sleep haze, seems to make sense. guy registered last month, no pts, guy who has been here awhile counted. must be on a time delay, since main goal of any of this is to stop people from creating accounts to give themselves rep.

Post good deal threads in the forums or be very helpful in your posts to other people (like this)

How are you being helpful? He asked how to GIVE them. Not how to get them. To give them, click on their rep. point button in a post of theirs.
Soylent, please dont start begging.
