Well No it's Not a Burner....
It's A DVD ROM Drive but it can Read Wii Game disks and it dumps to a File with certain Software and you can then burn it with a Dvd Burner for you Wii Game Backup Disks...
There are like only 4 Drives that can do it that I know of and when you find them they are OEM and Cost more with shipping...

For those who do not know how tricky it is to backup/copy Wii games. This DVD-ROM is one of the few models that can extract the Wii game by raw dump. But you will need a modded Wii to play those "backup" disk. Afterall, almost all the Wii games have been "backed up" by someone and put on the web. Why bother?
It seems the one upstairs (OP) has updated the post with the same information I posted at the same time when I first responsed to this.

I'm ticked. I just got a new PC and it's all SATA of course... so I installed a PCI IDE controller card and the drive works for normal discs, but whenever I put a Wii disc in tends to freeze things up pretty bad. (I had the drive installed in my old machine... so I'm familiar with the hesitation the drive has with Wii discs... but I'm not sure it's going to work with my controller card.) If anyone has any tips/tricks/workarounds let me know.

Hi,
Just wondering what Drive you have? I have never had any Hesitation at all with My Drives. GDR-8164 or the GDR-8163 on normal IDE. Also what PCI IDE card did you get? Did you get the newest Drivers for it? :)

I have the GDR-8164. The controller card is very old... so maybe I'll try updating it. It's an old Belkin I think... probably about 6 years+. But it's been working just fine for everything else. I don't think I was able to find drivers online... but I had the original install disc.
So you don't have to wait for a minute or two before Rawdump with recognize the wii disc?

Hummmm Well I looked around a bit and some people Tried something like Changing the Setting to PIO for the Drive???????????? Not sure what that is???????? Also some just put the Drive in a External Case but there is some Issue on the correct Cable to use. Also is the Drive MASTER now? As for RawDump 2.0 it takes like 20 seconds then seeding and Boom it starts...I guess I didn't think that was much of a wait because it is doing something?????????????? Are you running the newest NetFrame Work 2.0?

Hmm.. I wonder if I forgot to update the NetFrame on the new machine.. possibly.
I'll also check the jumper settings when I get home. I figured if it's working for normal discs.. it should be working for the wii discs.
I've been too busy to do much troubleshooting really...

I heard these drives are 'teh rare' now since..well you know.
Best to get them via other means (I may try the SD card method, mahself)

allegedly this method can wear the drive out faster in the Wii
