I'm in my 30's too and live over 15 miles from most Longhorns & also have a college degree... we have a few in our area... My parents are in their 50's and they also got an invite and live in the same general area... My brother is single/mid 20's no college degree and he has done this twice... we are in Ohio... Cleveland area,,, so I'm not really thinking age/education matters or location... as long as you are within 50 miles seems to work... yes there are 2 other restaurants in this chain that they will send you the option to test... I know one is Mexican and I forget the other as well as the names = I have never been invited to taste test them... glad to see people are enjoying this :) :)

I think getting an offer depends on several things. One is how many other people are signed up in your area. If there are many, you might not hear from them but once every year or two. Another factor might be that the scheduler might already have your area booked for the next two or three months and not have a slot for you right now. I am also thinking that if the scheduler is given the choice between several applicants, they will first offer the job to experienced shoppers or baring that, people who have been waiting longest for an opportunity.

Which brings me back to the fact that the more that sign up the less shops are available for everyone. The ones getting the quick offers are in areas that are in need of shoppers.

I got an email from them that said they wanted MORE secret shoppers in my area for the Longhorn. Sooooo. ....being the "good friend" that I am , I forwarded the recruiting email to all of my single friends and told them that since I was hooking them up with a free dinner, I needed to be their date!! LOL!! Nothing like a litle bribe, huh?

Had my scheduled dinner tonight. Did the survey, now awaiting reply from Secret Shoppers and payment.

Survey was easy to do. Took about 20-25 min to fill it out thoroughly. I will not make any comments (here on SD) about my trip though. I don't want to get DQ'ed. ;) A free dinner @ Longhorn is GREAT!!

I have done other secret shops and have gotten reimbursed 25 bucks. 40 bucks will be much much nicer and actually allow me to have some options when ordering. Yeah.

Don't be discouraged, I was a member for over a year before I got a shop (just did it on Wed. as a matter of fact). There are probably 4 Longhorns within 20 miles of my house. They only allow you to visit every 6 months & even then they state in the sign up form that the company prefers new shoppers as often as possible. If it ends up being a one time deal for me, I don't really mind since hubby & I got away from the kiddies for an hour before baby #3 comes along:lmao:

I got an email that I was selected too (obviously for a different restaurant in a different city) so I replied to the email that day but never heard back from them. Turns out they send out about 10 emails for every "visit" so make sure you get the reply email with specific instructions to ensure you indeed have that "visit".

The meal was good! Hope I get called again! Thanks and repped.

I've done it for about four months and have made some great extra money doing it (but no where near the amounts some ridiculous banner ads claim).

FYI: It's considered against your independent contractor agreement with Focus on Service to disclose what clients they maintain mystery shops for. Technically, everyone on this thread could have their account with FoS closed if they have any way of figuring out who you are.

No they contact you via email and ask if you are available for a shop nearby. If it's lunch then you don't respond.

They ask for the receipt ID# on your receipt. I think if you use your credit/debit card that it'll show the tip amount if you include it on there.
As for the phone call, I got an e-mail asking me to call them before the shop. That was probably 2 days before the start of the week of my shop.

I'm really glad to see so many people are getting in on this :) We went again around a week or 2 ago... had a really nice meal... spent a bit more than the $30.00 they allowed but then again with the follow up survey it was a total of getting $ 40.00 back... We went just last night. The waitress neglected to put an appetizer on our receipt. I had a dilema as to whether I was going to tattle on her. I did. My steak wasn't very tender and there were big chunks of tomato and onion in my chili. Other than that, I had a great time.

Focus on Service is strictly Longhorn Steakhouse.

There are plenty of other trustworthy mystery shop companies that handle accounts for other restaurants. No shortage of SD threads on them either.

I haven't gotten my check yet, but it should be in within a week or two. the meal was ok. My steak was a bit tough. they did call me afterwards and ask 3-4 follow up questions. 120 characters to explain something just wasn't enough. The lady did say my report was good. Yeah.

According to the locater that's the closest one to me but it's still hours away.

We are going sometime between the 6th and the 12th of this month... We usually go at least once a month anyway, but a free trip always helps :)

Usually they said a detailed email explaining everything but when I had to go (this past week) they told me one to six people could go. HTH.

I just completed this mystery shopping dinner three days ago. Not only a great steak, but "forced" to order dessert! AND got paid for it. What a deal - only in America!

I would think that the coupon wouldn't hurt anything. If there's two of you dining, you're going to spend over $40.00 anyway. In the section of the survey that asks for the cost of the meal, I'd give to bill total, not your cash outlay.

Other than the call before you do the shop for first timers, I don't think they're supposed to call you again unless they have further questions about your survey you turned in.

BONUS....Free Appetizer for 1st time guests. So I got the 2 meals and tip free plus a freebie<$6.29 normally> Texas Tonion. The 1st timer gets a free appetizer or dessert.

The survey was pretty easy to fill out. I made notes onf the times needed on a slip of paper when the waitress wasn't standing there.

Yep, the mystery shopping companies expect you to stick to the date you schedule...especially if you haven't worked for them before.

It's a really cool way to get free dinners and for some companies get paid on top of it if you can do it.

The lady I got (Janice) wasn't particularly amazingly friendly.. but heck what could I have expected? I mean, I'd do this again in a heartbeat. lol To get paid to go to a great restaurant like Longhorn? Any day! :D

My husband and I went this past Friday. The service was great but the food was AWFUL! We had to send stuff back and the manager came over and comped EVERYTHING and even threw in dessert. He felt pretty bad since this was our first time EVER to Longhorn.

I did my survey but I hope I don't get paid as we didn't have to pay for anything. I guess we shall see.

Yes, you will probably get called at the end of this week. My visit started to the week of the 13th (today) and they called me on this past Saturday.

It sounds like it's just a person on their cell phone who calls and confirms your visit. She called me Saturday afternoon while I was at a wedding. I planned on calling her back today, because I thought for sure she wouldn't be "in the office" on a Sunday. Turns out, she called me back yesterday evening and said if she didn't speak with me within 1 hour, my visit would be cancelled. I called back and she answered the phone very unprofessionally with just a simple "hello", which leads me to believe it was just her cell or home phone. I wonder if it's those "work from home" people who are setting this up?

At any rate, I'm looking forward to my meal this week and I've already signed up for the free appititzer coupon. :)

I am going the same week. No, you do not have to go a specific day. You have a 7 day window in which to go. However, I am going for dinner and they do have a specific time parameter - from 5pm to 9pm. Your coordinator will send you a VERY DETAILED summary sheet that will answer every one of these questions via email this week. It will tell you what you have to order, procedures (like you must go to the restrooms), etc. I had a bunch of questions, but when I read this sheet it answered all of them!

My true love and I eat at Longhorn quite a bit. $20 for two??? I don't think so. Maybe if you order a hamburger.... We order a good cut of steak and it is usually around 40 dollars and then we leave a $10 tip because the service is always great.

I've only gotten one of these before and I wasn't able to do it due to the fact that I had no notice and it was sent the day of around 12 pm and I was told I needed to go around 5:30. I wasn't given any other dates just that day! Not impressed so far, hopefully if I get another one I will have more than 4 hours notice.

No they tell you what CATEGORIES you must order. For example, my list states that I MUST order an Appetizer, Entrée, Beverage (soda, tea, alcohol, etc.) AND a coffee or dessert. I can order whatever I want, but I have to order at least one item from each CATEGORY. Sorry if I didn't make myself clear. I didn't mean to confuse you. I couldn't go in and decide that I want only a salad or an appetizer and steak but no dessert. Remember the reimbursement includes the tip and really covers only a meal for one person. If you can eat light, maybe one and a half persons, but you have to eat from EVERY CATEGORY they tell you to or you will not be reimbursed. How will they know? They pull up the info from your receipt.

Sample Example With Atlanta Prices:

Appetizer $7-$8 (Free with coupon)
Entree $15-$18
Beverage $2 (soda, tea)
Dessert $6-$8

Summary - Price for 1 person $30 - $36, plus tip $5-$6 = $35 - $42

They only reimburse you a maximum of $40.00.

For two people you can share the dessert and appetizer (free if you get a coupon) so all you have to pay for is the entree, beverage and a little more tip!

I think that's because in most resturants, lunch prices tend to be slightly cheaper than dinner prices. $35 for a lunch is not bad reimbursment! :nod:

I think that's their standard reimbursement for lunch. Actually, it was enough to cover our lunch.

I had both a free dessert and $/$ coupon I got in the mail. I asked and the manager had no problem letting me use both!!

I got my check last Saturday, so it took about 2.5 weeks for me to get the check after my mystery shop. Great experienced, I'd recommend it.

We (DH & I) did the lunch on Wed., and my appetizer cpn was expired, but they said they don't worry about the dates--and we were even allowed to use two coupons, so we each received a free appetizer. Just remember that when you print out the coupon, it is good for two weeks. So don't print it until you need it because YMMV on the expiration date issue.

My visit was scheduled for the week of August 13th. I went on the 15th, did the survey that night and then received my check on Saturday, Sept. 1st. So only took about 2.5 weeks to get my check also. This was a great deal! Still ended up costing me and my boyfriend $20 (after the $40 refund), but the food and service was great.

I went on my third secret trip tonight. (well, I was someone's guest...again) I referred a bunch of folks, so they take me out for dinner. :licklips:

Anyway, the service at our Longhorn is sooooo bad. TOnight was no exception. The manager, after making 5 passes past our table throughout our meal, finally stopped and asked how everything went. We were honest and said that our waitress was poor and forgot many of the things we ordered, etc...It really was a bad service night. Long story short-----when our $63 bill came, it was already paid for.!! The manager comped our entire meal since the service was so bad.

OMG!! We have to go BACK now and do it all over again before the week ends!!! LOLOLOL!!! We just laughed and laughed on the way out the door. I wonder if he knew we were secret people. :secret:

Just did a lunch one a couple weeks ago and I think it was $25 + $10 for the survey. Not a money make if you take someone, but still a free meal, and a good one at that.

Mostly multiple choice questions. Though the few questions that require a comment limit you to 255 characters.

This turned out to be a great deal for me. I was contacted about 1 month after signing up but wasn't able to go the week they had in mind. I received an e-mail a day later with a second date to go (guess they really wanted someone for my area!).

Anyhow, it wasn't a freebie but we had dinner and dessert for me, my wife, & my daughter that came to $10 out of pocket after the payment. The $40 check came 2 weeks after I filled out the survey.

I just signed up. I hope they pick me to be a shopper. I love Longhorn Steakhouse. Lunch with my buddy or dinner with the hubby either one would be great.

I have a DINNER visit available at Longhorn Steakhouse in XXXXXXXX OH, 45 Montrose Avenue, XXXXXX.OH from 1/21/2008 to 1/27/2008. DINNER must be performed between the hours of 5:00 TO 9:00 p.m.. If you are accepted for this visit, you will be reimbursed up to $30 plus an additional $10 if your Survey is received by the Due Date. But I sent all the info they asked for 4 day's ago and still havn't heard anything. Does anyone know how long it takes to get a response?

I responded this morning with the information they sent and received a response almost immediately confirming. When I replied I just copied their information request and input the information and sent. I would maybe respond to the e-mail again with the information just to make sure it worked...

It will probably be within the next two weeks. If you've never done one before, they will call you first to make sure you understand what it entails and if you have any questions to ask.
