Did anyone do a focus group last week? If so did you get payment?
Does it come paypal if thats how you regularly get paid with them?

Was it on some plant seeds focus group for $25 for 120 minutes?

You know I don't even remember them questioning me about the product. I think it actually came about from a household question, becaues I know that I did not take a survey about it.

I still havent gotten paid for it though

How do I know how much I will get paid for a survey? I didn't see anything in th e-mail or in the survey...

It did say I would receive compensation though...

I'm pretty sure they only pay $3, few people might still get $5 but I think they told them they would eventually have to switch or be removed.

If you log into your account, under the section where you update your profile, there is a spot that says how much and how you will get paid.

quick question,
I accidentally filled out a survey last week and the very last question was the famous was this a good use of your time, did you enjoy this survey etc,
now I misread the friggin ratings boxes and put negatives on all three questions! I only saw it as I clicked the continue button! (they need a friggin Back button) do you think they will now stop giving me surveys?? I would hate to be kicked out after being with pinecone for so long.

LOL. I did that once and freaked also. But a few days latet i was getting surveys again. So dont worry until a month goes by with no invites ;)

Don't get your hopes up but just because they ask if you would do a PT for them doesn't mean you will get the PT. They just show up via UPS or FedX without notice.

Ditto!!!

I've misread things before with them too and I have never had a problem because of it. Alot of times I have even accidnetly put the wrong age and gender.

SD isn't allowed to post PC referal links at ALL.

Per Wiki

POSTING LINKS IS NOT ALLOWED ON HERE...READ THE POST ABOVE AND STOP BREAKING THE RULES...ALL POSTED LINKS WILL BE MOD ALERTED !!!!

REASON WHY:
Quote from kel_be :
SD has had a problem with getting in trouble with survey companies. Majority of those companies, especially the larger ones, do not like their survey to be posted on sites such as SD. Mainly because people will see the links here, see the qualification guidelines, and lie to get accepted. That skews their results & target pool. From there, we get letters, emails, and PMs requesting that their information is removed & blocked on our site.

Because of that, we try not to get associated with survey companies. We try to remove any cheating/lying abilities, and keep things neutral so that we can stay in those companies good side. Pinecone Research is no exception.

We are in their good graces, and wish to remain there. Hence why we have decided not to have any direct links to sites with the banner, or sign up links.

As stated in the first post, you can tell people where to go (as is "Go to suchandshuch.com, banner is in the upper left), but don't link directly to the site or banner URL.

If you're referring to this:

I misplaced one of my PineCone Research checks and now it's expired. Can you replace it for me?
Due to the high volume of checks that we generate on a weekly basis, we are unable to replace lost, stolen or expired checks. The compensation charges for each product evaluation survey are immediately passed along to the sponsoring manufacturer and the accounting records are closed within weeks of the projects end.

It's my interpretation that it applies to a check you received and misplaced, was stolen, or you failed to cash before it expired. In your case you never received the check. I'd shoot them an email

This is sorta strange...

Been waiting for a product test follow up survey for months, but never recieved one. I guess they forgot about it/won't be sending a survey for it?

Funny, too, 'cause I've gotten many many many! surveys since then. :/

How do you know you were getting a product test? Just because the survey asks if you would be willing to test the product, it does not mean you are going to test it. The only time Pinecone has contacted me before a product test was when the product that I was to receive was perishable.

Sounds like chibichan got the PT ..no follow up survey like they usually send a week or so later.Or thats the way I read the post.

I agree about the checks...Paypal is way easier..and quicker!I switched over from checks awhile back ;)

I dont think you understood what they were saying. They already recieved the product to test, but never got the survey to give their opinions on the product they tested.

Does anyone have any comments about increasing your chances of getting the Test Product delivered? I rarely get the products to test. I wonder if doing the survey right away would increase your chances of being chosen to get a PT? Many times I do the survey days later during a better or more relaxing time. Many of the surveys, I do enjoy doing. I was tempted to e mail Pinecone and ask, but I thought that the question may not be a good one to ask them directly. I realize that they pick people randomly according to demographics and perhaps your answers.
thanks!

That's good to hear. I just came back to this thread to read comments about my issue. Anyway...I was just getting ready to email her, but noticed in the mail today there was the check that I was missing. The check was dated the day it was to be mailed (Dec. 15, 2008), however...it wasn't postmarked till Jan. 6, 2009.

Did anyone else get some crap today about installing a Artistscope Plugin from pinecone?

It says:

Changes in technology require that we make some modification to our process for viewing graphics within our surveys. In order for you to complete our surveys for future we’d like to request that you click the link to download this now. This is a one time process which will allow you to see the pictures within the interview on all future PineCone studies.

As a member of PineCone Research, you may soon be asked to participate in studies with a new product picture format. We are asking a few random panelists to take part in the Product Picture Test before we open it up to a larger group. The process will take less than a minute and checks your system to see if you are able to receive the new picture format.

You may be prompted to download AristiScope’s CopySafe Web plug-in if the test determines the new format is incompatible with your system. Feel free to download the plug-in. This will be required for future surveys and will avoid interruption to survey participation.

Our technical staff will be monitoring and recording the test results for you. During this testing period, our representatives will not be able to respond to individual product picture test inquiries.

Thanks for your continued interest and confidential participation in PineCone Research....where we value you, your time, your privacy and your opinions.

Thanks again,

I haven't gotten the email, but I'm not doing it. First they start sneaking products into unpaid household surveys. Then they force us all to take a pay cut. Then the surveys get ridiculously long. Now they want us to install something?

I don't think so. :nono:

I have been doing Pinecone regularly for several years now, but I haven't gotten any surveys for several months. Now when I try to long onto the website, it doesn't recognize my username/password, but there's no option to request either. So either Roboform is wrong with my login info, or my account has been deleted for no reason? I never ignored any of their surveys, so I'm confused why they would cancel without informing me

I'm not taking the companies side but at least know
artistscope is a company that offers digital right management
they been around since 1999 (see whois) so what their plugin does is
allow or disallow the web browser from caching images or
allows/disallows the ability to print screen and or other permissions.
that's all it does.
[QUOTEI don't care what they say take it from a advanced computer geek, it is spyware/adware.[/QUOTE]
your no computer geek let alone advanced. this is not spyware/adware.
if it were that fact would be readily available and all over google or a real

which surveys don't pay

Usually all their surveys pay. The household questions don't pay.

*IF* the survey doesn't pay, there is will a long message about it, saying that its a unique opportunity, and that it might take long then a typical survey. They usually last about an hour, and they aren't worth it. I only took one of them, I have gotten emails about them numerous times and now I just delete them.

Also the follow up survey for any PT recieved pay as well.

We are asking a few random panelists to take part in the Product Picture Test before we open it up to a larger group. The process will take less than a minute and checks your system to see if you are able to receive the new picture format.

silly question on compensation for pt, does anyone know how much it is? just curious. thanks.

no money for household questions
$3 for regular surveys
$3 for followup survey for pt
$3 if they ask you send back the pt

I've had 3 surveys in the passed 2 weeks. They all said they may lead to product testing. If I were chosen, when would I get the product? How long after the survey?

I had 2 pt's from pinecone. It generally comes in a week by FEDEX if you are selected.

My friend got this email today, is this software safe?

I don't know if it's safe, but this is what I got when I looked it up.
It's a software that protects the encryption. You will not be able to save any images or any part of the survey. I think it also stops you from using the Prt Scrn button as well.
I know a lot of like to save/print pages from the survey to prove that they took the survey, but they will not be able to do that any more with the software installed.

the software prevents you from saving images they may show
in a survey. that way if they show you new product xyz you
can't save the image to sell to competitors, show to grandma etc etc.
it won't save in browser cache nor can you download it.
that's all it does.

I did one pt and a couple surveys for them and what they
pay is seriously not enough. pretty disgusting

Got this in my email, and did not see it already posted, so here it goes, for those who are not already a member.

Dear :

PineCone Research continues to grow and we invite you to help! We are offering select members the opportunity to recommend membership to a friend or relative who is NOT a member of their household.

Do you know of households that would like to join the PineCone Research Panel? If so, please FORWARD A COPY of this email to each household you would like to refer so that they may click on the registration link shown below. That household should complete the registration form themselves and submit it. REMEMBER THAT ONLY ONE PERSON PER HOUSEHOLD MAY REGISTER. Multiple registrations of the same Household will void all registrations.

Here is the link to the registration:

[Link removed]

As a member in good standing, you've already seen the benefits of being part of PineCone Research. So please, share the benefits of membership with a friend. Just don't forget, please don't tell them about any of the products that you have seen in our questionnaires or tried in your home. Remember, it's important that your PineCone Research survey and product testing experiences remain confidential.

If your referral has any questions, they can email us at scott@pineconeresearch.com or click on the attached links to learn more about PineCone Research.

Thank you,

Karen Scott

What do you mean, qualified? If you mean you got the blurb about a manufacturer being interested in your opinion, and if they sent you the product would you be willing to test it, blah blah - that doesn't mean anything. It's in most if not all surveys.

A new product concept study is ready for your participation! This project is #39926-1001 and is currently available on the PineCone website. For this survey, we are offering a sweepstakes with the chance to win one of four $1000 individual awards, one of ten $500 individual awards, or the grand prize of $5000!

This questionnaire is somewhat different than our typical survey and we hope you will enjoy your participation. Please click on the link below to go directly to the survey.

They do have it where you can send in something to get the winners list.. so if you are that skeptical, try that?

Personally, I think that there are a TON of survey takers and not all of them are on SD or OLS, so they wouldn't advertise it as they may not know of this place.

I then removed it using the deepest search level of revco unistaller so i could remove all traces from the registry. the software did not reproduce itself. I then reinstalled it with no problems. it's clean. I am now running avg and it reports clean.
what the poster doesnt know is what TSC_GENCLEAN is. it is not malware
The OfficeScan client logs "TSC_GENCLEAN" as the filename for all the virus/malware that the GeneriClean function cleans.

plus blabbing about lawsuits with no proof says enough.
no way either company would infect the software. there would be no
point. if they were it would be to install a keylogger.
on the other hand doing surveys or home product test for 3 bucks is an
insult at best but for those that do or will there's no need to worry about the

I emailed Scott myself on the 14th = "I was contacted to try the new picture format. When I first downloaded the program, my virus protection went on full alert stating that the file was a POSSIBLE_MOVLY-1 virus."

It happened. Very true. It's sitting in my quarantine file....after I tried to remove it for 2 days

SEE IT HERE : http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3630/3287316898_d9a1c62649_o.jpg

Never got a reply if it was a virus or not...

ever heard of a false positive virus?

Of course I have, but who errs on the side of reckless regarding their personal information???

Regardless is if is an actual virus or not, (most likely not...) Pinecone should of tested the download on the popular virus protection at minimum to cover themselves...

I also did a search on files created and modified at the same time I installed the app and found 7 other files created at the same exact moment. It's invasive.

Most people think that a plugin as a way to view content such as media etc, but I believe Pinecone acted very shady on how they presented all this.

They can read this and kick my butt outta the panel for all I care, cause I shouldn't have to second guess my own security from a company I trusted and on top of that constantly reminds me to keep their information secure...

They do have it where you can send in something to get the winners list.. so if you are that skeptical, try that?

Personally, I think that there are a TON of survey takers and not all of them are on SD or OLS, so they wouldn't advertise it as they may not know of this place.

What is OLS?

virus definitions update several times a day. there's no way to hold pinecone responsible or even suggest it. they could have scanned with every known antivirus and if there
were any postives after updating there may have been none.
it's common sense if you know anything about this sort of thing.
but who errs on the side of reckless regarding their personal information??
you and everyone else here who gives out their real home address to a website for a freebie that may appear to be a scam. it so easy to get that info from so many here I can assure you it's not hard to get even more.

you owe pinecone an apology. I hope you have learned something useful and don't
decide to just strike back at me because all of the above is fact.

Warning to Pinecone Research Members

I realize a lot of you may have already downloaded Pinecone Research's plug in, I would recommend contacting them ASAP because you have been infected with a Trojan. Here they are threatening their members with lawsuits, and now they could be involved in a large suit themselves. Read on..

Karen Scott emails people with this:

You may be prompted to download AristiScope’s CopySafe Web plug-in if the test determines the new format is incompatible with your system. Feel free to download the plug-in. This will be required for future surveys and will avoid interruption to survey participation.
------------------------

The Trojan was discovered with Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security. Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security is the LEADING virus protection money can buy, all virus scanners get their patterns from Trend Micro. So please know this alert has been authenticated.

ArtistScope_IE_42.exe is the name of the program.

Possible_Movly-1 is the name of the trojan.

TSC_GENCLEAN is the name of the malware.

http://www.trendmicro.com/vinfo/virusencyclo/default5.asp?

VName=POSSIBLE_MOVLY-1

After it's been removed...

It still stores itself in the system restore, which means it keeps being placed back on the hard drive. The only way to totally remove it is, to right click my computer icon on your desktop click on system restore, and turn off system restore (click apply), then turn it back on.

Thanks for the warning! :woot:

My anti-virus has never went off after installing the thing weeks ago.

I think you got a false poss. hit. I get it frequently on POGO downloadable games. I know that Pogo wouldn't put a virus in their games. Just like I doubt Pinecone would ask us to put one on our computers.

I sense a cry of "wolf" when there isn't one.

Last Wednesday I got an email from Pinecone about downloading the Artiscope 4.2 program. I had read the concerns on this site and a couple of others and decided that I would email Miss Scott and ask her about it. She wrote right back and stated that there was nothing wrong with the download and that Pinecone would be addressing the issue in the next couple of days. On Friday, I received another email stating there was new information on the download. So I went and read them and thought okay seems they have fixed what ever was wrong so I thought why not?? Silly me!! The first thing I noticed was when I read the user agreement, and I carefully read it, was Artiscope accepted no liability for any damages. I almost stopped then, but I figured Pinecone had said it was okay. Silly me again!!!! No sooner than I had ran the program, closed my browser and logged in to Pinecone my computer locked up tight and would not even allow an error report to Microsoft!! I immediately tried to shut down so I could find out what was going on, and low and behold tried to remove the program. Only this wasn't your average remove the program. The was no configuration tool start up or the time it takes Windows to configure, this was wham, bam, poof it disappeared. Now by this time I'm kinda getting a sense that something isn't right. Well I scanned my files, I ran searches and nothing. But guess what I know it's still there. This morning with the help of a friend, I ran a misc. services check, I now have a program that I never had before. Everytime I touch it, it locks up my computer, shuts it down and will not allow me to even send an error report to MICROSOFT!!!! So folks, if you had any doubts, DON'T! Do not download this program!!! I sent a email to Pinecone and will report back here. By the way I have all the emails if anybody wants to see them! And I do have the name of the new program. :censored: I am running XP Pro on a laptop

PR kicked me out of the panel when my hubby wouldn't complete the scanner software stuff from one of their sister companies. I had been with them for a couple of years, he ended up getting something were he had to scan all of our purchases and transmit the info via the telephone lines. He wasn't doing it consistently, so they made him return the gadget and a couple of weeks later I stopped receiving survey requests. When I emailed them, they said they removed me for inactivity which was a crock, I was in the middle of testing the Tide stuff. I attempted to sign up twice after that, to no avail.

Yeah this program acted pretty nasty on my computer also. Luckily I have an older computer and will probably upgrade pretty soon. I am running xp But if I had a newer computer I would be careful. This thing made my computer blink on and offf a couple of times and the whole screen disapperered. Then when I tried to remove it it said it was attached to My IE explorer. I was able to finally remove it . I wonder if this is made by the Same micro trends company that used to do panels a couple of years ago. They used to download a program and study your internet usage and then you would get paid every three months. I had to stop doing it because my security software I was running said it was dangerous. Good luck to everybody that was able to download it sucessfully but just be careful.

I had dowloaded but after reading everyones response and experience with it I decided to remove it off my computer. Computer problems and headaches are just not worth it for me.

But while I had it downloaded for a day I experienced no problems. I ran all my virus, spy, washers, cleaners, you name it I ran it and nothing came up on it. But you can never be too sure.

I just got another e mail from Pinecone regarding the plug in. They said that there were some updated information about the software, as they had numerous inquiries about it.
I could not find any information about it from the link they provided? I am afraid to download this if there are problems with it. Pinecone is certainly reputable, but maybe this was not tested enough yet. I do want to continue with Pinecone, so I guess I will wait and see a little longer.

BTW, I could be wrong, but I do not think that Karen Scott is a real person. I think that some people think that she is a real person. Now there are a few programs that will work with my Desktop(Vista) that doesn't like my laptop(XP). And it goes around the other way.

I don't know what all the hullabaloo is about regarding the plug in. A small minority of people had a problem with it. I didn't have a problem with it.

I dont think pinecone is blackballing people or anything like that. Sometimes you fit the demographic, other times you don't. Sometimes months go by before I get a paid survey. Then at other tiems I get five or ten in a MONTH.

The other day I was thinking it had been a while since my last survey. Then in the past week, I got two, one including a PT.

Here's more information regarding the ArtistScope plug-in for anyone that may be interested.

After installing the plug-in you'll have a new process running all the time in the background using resources. It may not use much but it's there even after closing your browser. It also adds an entry in "Services" in the Administrator Tools.

If you go to the Task Manager you'll see the new process called "cshelper.exe" running which is the CopySafe Helper Service. The task can be terminated if you don't want it running all the time. But if needed for a survey you'll have to re-start it through Services.

Sounds like a false possitive. I have been running the software for a few months now and have had zero hits on my anti-virus from it.

Changes in technology require that we make some modification to our process for viewing graphics within our surveys. In order for you to complete our surveys in the future, we request that you click the link to download this now. This is a one time process which will allow you to see the pictures within the interview on all future PineCone studies. For more information, Click here.

I didn't download it either.. still get invites.. In fact, I just did a survey with no problem and they even asked me if I want to test the product, I said yes of course.

Not sure about the future, but at least now I am still getting surveys...
