POSTING LINKS IS NOT ALLOWED ON HERE...READ THE POST ABOVE AND STOP BREAKING THE RULES...ALL POSTED LINKS WILL BE MOD ALERTED !!!!
REASON WHY:
SD has had a problem with getting in trouble with survey companies. Majority of those companies, especially the larger ones, do not like their survey to be posted on sites such as SD. Mainly because people will see the links here, see the qualification guidelines, and lie to get accepted. That skews their results & target pool. From there, we get letters, emails, and PMs requesting that their information is removed & blocked on our site.
Because of that, we try not to get associated with survey companies. We try to remove any cheating/lying abilities, and keep things neutral so that we can stay in those companies good side. Pinecone Research is no exception.
We are in their good graces, and wish to remain there. Hence why we have decided not to have any direct links to sites with the banner, or sign up links.
As stated in the first post, you can tell people where to go (as is "Go to suchandshuch.com, banner is in the upper left), but don't link directly to the site or banner URL.
Who is Pinecone Research? (http://www.pineconeresearch.com/about.HTM)

Wny can't we link to the site or banner address?

Well, I just got an email from Pinecone this week asking me to forward it to anyone I thought might be interested, (someone else already posted it, the link has been removed, but the email address is still there,) so just look it up on Google or something and apply. I get about $10 a month, on average. Some surveys take longer than others, and there are questionaires to fill out once or twice a week about yourself, these are not paid for, they are just part of being associated with Pinecone. So, it's not a living, but it buys some beer:)

no, if you joined at $3, you're gonna be $3. In fact, I've heard rumors about the $5 people like me being moved down to $3, plus a sweepstakes entry.
I've been with Pinecone since late 06 - early 07, I've always gotten $5 :) :)

they didn't start the $3 thing until mid last year, in the summer, if i remember right. I don't see anything wrong with, we've been with a while, proven ourselves loyal and honest, so why should we get bumped down to $3? If they really decide to do the $3 with a sweepstakes thing for us $5 people, then I will stay a member, but I think that it would suck, lol

I've also been a member since early 2006 and have always been paid $5.00 for surveys. I even recall being paid $5.00 when surveys I had completed needed additional information (i.e. they added more questions that needed replies). I hope they do not start the sweepstakes thing because of all the ones I have participated in, I have never won any. I get enough of a headache with TestSpin and I like my Pinecone to remain the same. I even still like getting paid via check.

Every Pinecone survey I do asks if I'm willing to do a product test but I rarely actually get the product. I think they ask the question in every survey.

heh heh... not really.
They ask you after every survey you take, and then if you get chosen to test the product, you'll find it on your doorstep a couple of days later.

I've never had it say at the end of the survey that they were sending a product test, they have only asked. And in my experience even though they ask in every single survey I do they rarely send the product.

I am new to SD...well I have lurked for a few days, lol... and would like info on how to join Pinecone Research Panel. I have tried to visit mos of the sites listed that have had banners in the past but could not find one. If anyone could give me anymore info it would be greatly appreciated. This is my first message and I'm not sure if I was supposed to post a reply, or do something different, I also do not know how to PM someone from the group. Thank you all while I am learning the site specifics.

Hiya,
Welcome to SD. :)
First, never post your email addy in the forum (or anyplace public).
The spam bots will get you.
If you're going to post it for some reason, post like this:
melissa.kinney AT hotmail DOT com
Second, to PM someone click on the persons UserName and choose 'send private message' in the box that opens up.
The rest is pretty simple.
There is a PC banner hanging around on afullcup.com.
Go to that site and click around until you find the banner. Click on it and apply for membership. With any luck, you'll fit the demographics they need to fill and you'll be accepted. :)
Cheers!

I got it. I haven't decided whether or not I will participate though. I don't have a lot of time these days.
The Neilson Company is very legitimate (and is PC's parent Co.).
It's safe to download the software. The software may be a resource hog, depending on your system.

A question for people who have received a PT from Pinecone before: Have you always had to sign for any PT that you received? I'm expecting something that is packed in dry ice and I don't think I'll be home when they come by. Do you think they would leave it at my door?
Thanks!

Your username and pw won't work until they send your first survey. :)
.. and yes, they email when there's a survey for you. Some have reported not getting all the notifications, so log in to check. I've never found stray surveys in my account.

A PT is a product test. Although Pinecone is notorious for asking people if they are willing to try products at the end of their surveys, they are really random to get. They just show up with almost no warning.
Hope this helps! :)

For some of the product tests (namely some that have a potential risk if consumed improperly) I've had to sign or they've come early in the morning. Although, I was surprised with one PT I got for a refrigerated product. I got the e-mail, at like 7 in the morning, letting me know I would be recieving a cooler with the product in it within the next few days. I check out the front door and there's a huge box sitting out there >.> Silly FedEx deliverer person not even ringing my doorbell. I'm glad PC sent me the e-mail...

As the above poster said, waiting a month isn't to long. That's about how long it took me to be accepted. However, as per their rules, you may reapply after two weeks. If you reapply before this this time period, you'll likely make their black list and never get in. :)

Not quite sure what you mean... where did you hear they are thinking of changing their 'setup' and changing it to what?
They changed their policies a while back to offer lower compensation to new panelists. However it didn't affect those of us who were already members receiving $5.
Have you gotten some notice about a policy change that none of the rest of us have received?

They sent me a survey asking if I would still remain a panelist if they changed the compensation to $3 + sweepstakes. Additionally, the last couple studies I was invited to said that the "quota" was met when I clicked the link and I wasn't allowed to participate.

I got the same survey. Like you, I don't want it to change, either. I like it exactly how it is right now. If they changed it to just $3 plus a sweeps I'd be very unhappy. I'd probably still stay a member ('cause $3 is better than nothing), but then Pinecone really wouldn't be much better than several of the other panels out there, especially since I've only gotten a few surveys from them so far this year as it is. (last year I was getting 4-6 per month, but this year I'm lucky if I get one or two a month :()

I got an offer like that they wanted all my signin info for my cellphone company, so they could moniter my account activity for "research purposes" whatever $27 my butt I wouldn't do that for anything. I think the issues came up when they merged with neilsons. I'm not sure when that happened but they started to go bad when I noticed that. :(

(last year I was getting 4-6 per month, but this year I'm lucky if I get one or two a month :()
ditto.. I am worried about what is going to happen

I don't know what kind of surveys you're getting but mine never take me longer than 10 minutes. I'm assuming that I'm doing them correctly because they send me more and send product tests.

Yeah, I've rarely had one to last over 15 mins. The one time it did last an insane amount of time, I was rewarded with a very expensive PT and 2 followups. I say it was worth it.

I agree with everyone else who thinks pinecone is becoming more like other survey companies out there right now...Its a shame.

Well, with other survey companies, I can stand to net more. With Survey Spot, I can make $100 a month. Pinecone usually gets me about $25 a month. I like Pinecone better because all the surveys I get, I qualify for and I get paid quickly. I will definitely be sad if they move to $3 a survey... but they have the best PTs IMO. I'm so down with that.
howwww do u get that much with survey spot!?
i cant even get 3 bucks... (do you do the surveys that arent for $$ too?)

I got the same survey about switching to $3. I'd probably stop doing these things all together at $3.... Mine keep getting longer and longer... they are barely worth $5 IMO. Mine usually take at least 20 minutes.
at least you get 5...
i get 3, but i like it, i have fun with the stuff on there. i just wish i could get a darn PT out of it!

I get 3-4 Pinecones a month, 6 this month which was nice but I signed up a few months ago and only get $3 a survey. They are by far my favorite site though as I never have to worry about not qualifying. I make $150ish a month on Surveyspot but the disqualifications make it frustrating.

Chia, don't get your hopes up because chances are, unless you are very lucky, they won't send it. I have been a member since January, and have had about 25 paying surveys ending in a PT offer, and I only got one PT. It is always a possibility that you might get it, but if they like your answers it automatically asks you if you want to test the item, they might not even be rumming a test on it, and if they are, then they go through all the answers and see which ones they want to test out the product most. HTH.

Dear Panel Member:
I’m pleased to inform you that with the completion of all future household questionnaires (projects ending in -3001) you will automatically be entered into the bi-weekly sweepstakes for a chance to win a $500 cash prize. This change is scheduled to occur for you within the next day or so.
Moving forward, our system will generate an email letting you know that we’ve received your household questionnaire information and that we’ve entered you into the upcoming bi-weekly sweepstakes drawing.
Here at PineCone Research, we value you, your time, your privacy and your opinions. Thank you for your continued interest in our panel and I look forward to including you in future surveys.

That is JUST talking about the household questionnaires which we never got paid for anyway, so don't worry about that. This is actually kinda cool to at least get into a drawing for the household questions. My thinking, from what I am reading here about what everyone else is saying about how many surveys they get or don't get, it looks like the $3 people are getting all the surveys and the rest of us are getting screwed... at the $5 level anyway... anyone here still getting the $4 per survey? I used to get quite a few at $5 but it's down to one a month or less lately. If they are trying to knock us all down to $3, I will just quit. It's not worth my time.

Checks usually take 3 to 5 business days to get to you.
PayPal payments are normally sent within 24 hours (again business days).

We don't want to see the "PM me for an invite if you are _____" posts because it leads to lying. People will (and have in the past) lied to get accepted into these groups. We won't promote it, or allow it to happen.
If you get one of those invitations, you are allowed to PM people who you know or believe fall into the requirements set by Pinecone. But don't post it on the boards for all to see.

Do not feel so bad I am in the same situation. I seriously believe it is a reflection of the slow economy and the survey companies are feeling it too. Plus, I have seen more and more articles telling people to register with survey companies which makes the chance of being selected less..

That's the same one I was talking about a while ago. I said that no, I wouldn't stay...and then I proceeded to send Karen Scott an e-mail about my disgruntled-ness...
Funny you mention that. I also took the same survey. I spent about 15 minutes typing up an email to Karen discussing my feelings on the matter, and how PC should continue to stand out from the other survey companies, not go to one of these sweepstakes bs ones. I was very polite and courteous in my letter, put a lot of effort into what I felt, and this is what I got back 3 days later:

I also got the survey about would you stay if they offered $3 and/or sweepstakes entries. I felt I should agree that I would stay for the $3 offering, but if this is the case in the future I won't feel as compelled to hurriedly complete a survey for a less reward. As far as agreeing to do surveys for just sweepstakes, I just said no. I don't have the time in the day to do all that work for a sweepstakes entry. There are plenty of sweepstakes to enter, where you don't have to take a survey, if you even have the time to do that!
I spent social time on this board, but as far as doing the work of surveys and other deals I have to have paying options or it is not worth my time. It is hard enough to find the time to work, manage a home, take care of DH and children without having to find time to do surveys in which you probably won't get compensated.
We'll see if they lower my pay to $3, if so I guess I will just take the surveys and judge the time it takes to do them as productive or not. I am hoping they just keep us at the $5 rate at least for a while.

Pinecone has been the best for me since I started doing surveys 2 years ago, even if it drops to 3 a survey I will still do them...but if its for just a sweeps entry I'm not going to waste my time, there are other paying survey sites :).

PC is owned by The Nielson Company. That's actually pretty common knowledge. I don't think they're trying to make people think it's a small operation.

Yes. I used the contact us link on their website, which went to scott@pineconeresearch.com, which I have used to talk to 'Karen' before. And the response I got was from their email client sending back a message that someone manually deleted it without being read.

Well, that's unfortunate. Perhaps they're going be deleting all email regarding the payment structure changes now.

I still don't get the "greatness" of this company
Maybe i'm still a little vexed about not getting paid for a PT I took last summer. After inquiring about it, I got a rude email and never heard from them again :shake:
At the risk of sounding like a broken record,it is worth reiterating what others have already posted-- there are way better survey companies out there..

If you have to go away for more then a couple weeks, you need to email them and have them suspend your account. Otherwise, if you stop doing the surveys for a while, they will delete your account. No idea if they will reinstate you or not.

that had happened to me a long time ago. i had to re-sign up. i know i was among many others that got dropped for no obvious reason. they had sent out a questionaire for us to "update" our account information. and that's when they dropped a lot of members. it was right after they had acqured a lot of new members (i could tell from various forums). i emailed Karen Scott asking for an answer at the time, but she didn't give me a direct one, just told me something like someone in my family must work for the advertising industry or blah blah blah or blah blah blah. which none was true. eventually i caught a banner somewhere else and got accepted again. hope that helps.

new payment methods. How many took the survey and chose an alternate method?
I am not sure how much we can discuss about this. I chose where I get $3 pr survey and also entered into the drawings for larger monthly prizes.
As for the discussion on amount of surveys, it seems to vary. I will get several a month then get none for 2 or more months. Overall, I have done about 1/4th the amount of work I have had to do with surveyspot to earn about the same amount of monies. pinecone IMHO pays great for the actual amount of time they ask you to invest.

I just joined PineCone recently, and completed a survey. They just sent me a PT, which a male (presumably my husband) in my household is supposed to try for two weeks, and then I'm supposed to send them feedback on the PT.
The snag is....my hubby read the ingredients on the product and refuses to use it. What do I do? Do you think I'd get disqualified if I emailed them explaining?
Thank,

Did they send you a shipper to return it in and another compensation check? If you agreed to send it back but didn't that could very well be why you haven't received any more surveys. Why didn't you send it back?

This is the best idea in regards to the product the husband won't try.
They sent me a product once that I had SAID in the survey before was the product I already used. I filled out the follow up with no difference, no difference, it's what I already buy, etc. and they seemed fine. I imagine this would be similar. Using 0 product for 2 weeks because the ingredients are not up to his standard and filling out the survey reflecting that as best as is possible IS using it as normal for two weeks - he wouldn't normally use it. I'd see if he'd look at whatever it is to give any other comments ("I like <x> about it if it didn't have <y> I'd try it") but I wouldn't worry about it. If people liked everything they tested the comments wouldn't mean much.

Pinecone pays about 3-5 days after you complete a survey (if getting paid thru Paypal). I'm not really sure how long it takes for a check to come through the mail.
You can check what surveys you have done by logging on their website and click on "View your Survey History". It should have a list of surveys you have completed.

You would of had to have averaged over one survey a week for that entire time to have scored $1000. I also have been a member for about 4 years, and I *might* receive 2-3 surveys on a good month, but the average is 1-2. Never 4+. Unless you had multiple accounts, I don't see how your figure good be accurate. Which is maybe why they deleted you! So I am going to have to call shenanigans on this one.

They paid me in advance for a return and kept saying they were going to mail me stuff to send the PT back. A month and a half later I nearly tossed it. Then a bout of bronchitis hit me right after they sent the shipping materials and officially wanted the PT back. I finally got it back to them 3 weeks later. No problems with surveys since then.
I would send it back ASAP for 2 reasons. The first being you agreed in good faith to test and return the product and the second reason is that you'll be compensated for returning it.

UGH....and to top it all off, i asked in my original email if there was a way i could re-register with them and she never addressed that in her response. dissapointing.....
