I've got an idea to raise money for Slickdeals. (Perhaps for a server upgrade)

I'd like a raised post count... just about 1700 or so more. I'd be willing to donate 5 dollars via paypal for that.

My idea is to have a special request/donate post where we paypal money to Slickdeals in exchange for certain mods to our accts, such as free rep points or a raised post count.

A good example would be, for every 5 USD - 200 post counts raised.
For every 5 USD - 10 rep points.
It would be enough to get some cash to help subsidize the cost of operating this site.
What do you all think?
PM me (mods) if you think it's a good idea and will let me know where to send the money to. :)

honestly, the posts I consider to be a small way of competing with other people through active and legitimate involvement. I don't leave too many cheesy small 2 word posts, except wheni get a magazine, i like to say awesome it worked, or thanks a lot or great post. Otherwise, I'd be glad to take a few thousand of your posts in exchange for 5 dollars. That would be a slickdeal. :)

PM me. heh.

the idea of rep points is to reward users who have been helpful in finding deals, helping out with technical problems, providing useful information, etc.
selling rep points kind of makes them worthless, no?

as for post count, what are the benefits of bigger vs. smaller post count?

Like I originally posted, it's a good way to make money, some people might have an interest in doing this and money is always good. Besides, how rewarding is it if somebody takes fake usernames and gives himself good rep credits... not very...

ok, then I'll give you part of my post count in return. now how's that for a slick deal?

well... now, you aren't a mod and that would be self promotion which isn't allowed... FLAG!!!!!!! heh

there are mechanisms in place to prevent that.

ok seriously saying if SD needed a new server and they proposed a raiseing fund idea. i personally have no problem with donating money. Considering how much SD has saved me through out all these various deals. The props go out to all the SDers and mods , and to donoate a little money for a "better" community why not!

pretty sure if SD needed a new server, they woudld take the ad revenue, and purchase it

Just like any other business, as demand increases, you have to invest in order to continue growth and increase profits.

aceidrain
12-08-2004, 01:50 PM
sure, but this is to help continued growth and increased profits, because if enough money is generated, purchasing the ad revenue can be put to more useful things for the site... right?
