Edit on 8/16/07: According to Diva~Style one of the intermediary companies (not CC or Vonage) is in financial trouble (bankruptcy?) and thus CC has been told to no longer give out the GC. FEW people still managed today, but only because of slack CSRs. DEAD.
Edit on 8/15/07: Some posters have stated CC is no longer honoring this deal as they were notified by hq to stop giving out the $300 gc. act now while some stores slack on the policy!
Searched but did not find any thread on this (odd given the amount $300).
Circuit City circular says if you sign up for Vonage for 12 months, you get an instant $300 Gift Card. Here's the updated link (http://circuitcity.shoplocal.com/...2092926699 )
Basically went to the their website, clicked on WEEKLY AD, punched in my zip and there is was on the first page (my friend said page 2 [last week, this week it is on page 16. thanks rajesh for the info]).
Info:
get $300 instantly to spend storewide(1)
thru Aug 18

Offer requires that new subscribers keep their Vonage service active and in good standing for one (1) year from date of activation. This is a limited time offer for new subscribers only. Limit: one (1) instant gift card per subscriber/residence. If you disconnect your service or your account is not in good standing prior to the end of the one (1) year period, you will pay Vonage a recovery fee (which, at Vonage's option, may be a non-refundable charge to your credit card) in the full amount of the instant gift card (in addition to any other recovery fee that may apply).
Note.
I'd advise you talk to the store manager about it before doing it and make sure he's aware of this. Also, make sure it is just for 12 months and they don't sneak 24 months on you.
Added 8/13/2007:
- Edited title of post to extend to Aug 18th
- The possible $175 MIR in addition to $300 GC is if you buy the PAP2 device (http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/productDetail.do?oid=112166&cm_keycode=85) [credit and any deserved reps should go to hdlz (http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?sduid=22553&p=7575673&highlight=175#post7575673)for this extra bonus]: update the $175 MIR info is not showing up anymore online.
- Link was updated for the Aug 18th link
- Seems some posters used their hacked Sunrocket gizmo and did the activation for the $300 GC, thus no purchase at CC [credit and any deserved reps should go to kornpopz (http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?sduid=22553&p=7594218&highlight=sunrocket#post7594218)for this]

Yeah,
but what % of Sunrocket customers switched to a traditional Ma Bell line? I'm guessing most went with another VOIP provider.

Right?
This is a pretty good return on investment if you just add a second line.
Choose the $14.99 service for 12 months and it will cost $180 total and in return you get a $300 gift card pretty good deal if you ask me.

It doesn't specify a plan, so I imagine you can sign up for the $14.99 as well. Or sign up for the $24.99 and call and switch to the $199 for 1 year as well.

It'd be nice to make an easy $120.12 ($14.99 x 12 = $179.88 - $300)
But I'm sure there's all kind of other f'n up front charges and fees/taxes.
Heck, we don't even have a land line, and I'm sure as hell not going to start using one.

It won't work if you try to sign up. I was on the phone with several Circuit Cities as well as Vonage. They are under negotiations right now and on the verge of bankruptcy. If you go to CC to activate and sign up, it won't even go through their middle man company. I got screwed from Sun Rocket and I'm not about to get screwed again!!!

is there a $175 mail-in rebate for the adapter (ID VON32)? You pay $49.99 for the device and get $175 back, so that is another $125 profit.
My math is following: phone adapter $50 + activation 39.99 + (24.99 + $5(tax)) *11 month - 175-300 = -65, so you get unlimitted call for 12 month and earn $65,

How can you get screwed? The $300 is an instant gift card, so if Vonage goes under you still got your $300 off. It's probably better for you, as if they go under you're not under contract any longer (I assume).
And as a prev. poster did the math.
You pay $80 up front ($50 adapter + $30 activation fee)
and get phone service for a year
+ $65 profit towards any service.
Not to mention the added benefit of paying the $15 /month over time, instead of $300 up front.
I'd go for this, but don't have time to get to a CC today or tomorrow.
I hope they have it next week too.

Is there anything really worhtwhile - on sale a circuit city to buy with the $300?
lazyk
08-10-2007, 04:40 PM
to answer a few questions:
- I believe they will have this until the 18th (one of the store managers stated so)
- For vonage, I dont believe you have to pay up front; it's month to month at $14.99 or $24.99
- Yes it's instant
Now, this last part is a YMMV but a friend of mine signed up over the phone (with Vonage) then took the printout to CC and got the $300 instantly. HOWEVER!!! He had TRIED to sign up in store but their system was being transitioned and would not let him sign when he talked to the manager so he already had a pre-established relationship prior to the phone order with Vonage. What I'm getting at is (he didnt do this) but you can try to use a friend's referral to benefit you and him and sign up. In addition when he signed up over the phone, they waived the activation fee. And, if you can sign up online or over the phone and take the printout to CC, then you may be able to use your existing vonage device from before (I have two of them but am currently with Teleblend). Just some other notes.

You can sell the GC on eBay and lose a couple of dollars on the sale, but it's better than trying to find something to buy at that store.

Not sure, but i think AT&T has to offer DSL without the phone service; if you can get just the internet service, then you can use Vonage with it.

Some companies will allow you to have "naked DSL" which is DSL without having phone service. You will have to check with your carrier to see if they offer it. Usually they charge you a premium (maybe $10 a month more) for it though.

My friend has vonage service. When she went to her home country, India, she gave one phone line to her parents. Using computer, they can chat just like landline for just 14.99 a month. Pretty slick if you ask me. But again you dont have to sit before the computer like yahoo phone or google talk. The line is very clear.

Not illegal, Vonage used to advertise that you can do this. Maybe not to other countries, but I've had Vonage for years now and they told me that if I had a vacation home or something anywhere else I should just take it with me, why pay long distance? All they require is internet access, you're not cheating anybody.

You should tell your friend to get Skype though, it's even slicker. If her parents have a high speed connection good enough for Vonage, they have one good enough for Skype. And Skype is FREE once you use VOIP, assuming they use Skype too (here in the US).

Sounds illegal to me...I could be wrong.
It is illegal in some countries where telecommunications are restricted, and usually expensive. However, it only applies if residents purchase the plan directly and even then, it is not illegal for the owner, but for the telecom. You can freely take your phone service with you to any other country and use it on a standard internet line. In other words, Vonage cannot sell its service to residents of certain countries, but that does not prevent people in those countries from using the service as long as billing goes to a country where it is legal, such as the US.

I just got back from Circuit City. There is a new sign that explains that the company that did their Vonage sign-up has declared bankruptcy as of 08/03/2007. They are no longer accepting new clients through Circuit City. So the guy that called is right and the deal is no longer valid. The store I went to is in Utah. Thanks.
Vonage is NOT declaring bankruptcy, just the company that processed new clients on behalf of Circuit City.

Vonage Works Around Verizon Litigation
By Roy Mark
Beleaguered Vonage Holdings said today it has completed workarounds of the Verizon patents that are a key part of a $58 million infringement award against the struggling Internet telephone provider.
The Verizon (Quote) patents fall into two key VoIP areas: WiFi and name translation. The Verizon Wi-Fi patent covers wireless VoIP-enabled devices while the name translation technology involves how Internet calls travel across traditional telephone networks.
"We have substantially completed the deployment of workarounds for the two name translation patents and have completed the development of the wireless patent workaround," Vonage CEO Jeffrey Citron said on a conference call. "This is a significant step toward moving ahead with our business in the wake of the Verizon litigation."
The workaround announcement came as Vonage (Quote) issued its second-quarter earnings report. The Holmdel, N.J.-based company said it narrowed losses from $60 million a year ago to $18 million after job cuts and other cost-saving measures. Vonage also said it gained 57,000 new subscribers during the quarter. Shares are at $2.37 in morning trading.
"We made significant strides this quarter in reducing costs and narrowing our losses," Citron said. "Despite the continued challenges associated with the Verizon litigation, the company maintained its focus on achieving adjusted operating profitability."
In March, a Virginia jury ruled Vonage infringed on three Verizon patents. In addition to the $58 million in damages, Judge Claude Hilton ordered a permanent injunction against Vonage using the Verizon technology and ordered Vonage to stop recruiting news customers.
The permanent injunction was stayed while Vonage appealed the decision. While the stay is pending, Vonage is paying Verizon a 5.5 percent per customer royalty to the nation's second-largest telecom carrier. The U.S. Federal Court of Appeals heard the case in June and is now expected to rule sometime in September.
"The workarounds did not infringe on the Verizon patents as defined by the court," Citron said, adding the Verizon litigation has so far cost the company $6 million. "We remain confident in the strength of our appeal."
At the June appeals hearing, Vonage lawyer Roger Wren said that even if Vonage loses the case, a permanent injunction is not justified, contending the damage award and royalty payments more than compensate Verizon.
Vonage is also under legal attack from Sprint Nextel, the country's third-largest wireless carrier, over seven patents Sprint Nextel claims Vonage infringes. Wednesday, a federal judge in Kansas City refused to grant Vonage a summary judgment, and the case is expected to begin on Sept. 4.
The Verizon patents, filed in 1997, cover the translation of domain names and IP addresses to telephone numbers when Internet calls are passed off to the traditional telephone system. Since a VoIP call is nothing more than another packet on the Internet, VoIP providers must translate an IP address into a telephone number recognized by the PSTN (define) for the call to connect.
Verizon claims Vonage has taken away more than a million customers from the company, which also operates its own VoIP service. Vonage admits it loses more than 600,000 customers a year and, without the ability to recruit new customers, bankruptcy would loom for the company.

I went down to get this deal with my mother. I was going to sign her up and pay the bill then cancel my Vonage service and just use her account to get the 300 bux. But when I got to CC they had no clue what Vonage was. It was another hour to get a manager who still didn't have a clue what to do. They didn't even have a Vonage device in the store to sell for you to activate. He suggested I try Best Buy for the service or call Vonage. This would've been a slick deal because CC has a laptop I saw for $349 and no rebates. So you could've signed up for Vonage and got a $49 plus tax laptop for the kids. That would've been great. Here was the specs for the laptop not much but for $49 and tax it would've been great

I just got back from circuit city. As others have said, their systems have changed and the employees really did not know what to do.
After a runaround for about 30 minutes they decided we should call Vonage from the store and sign up that way. The phone call took another 15-20 minutes but at the end I handed the phone BACK to the CC salesman and he wrote down a confirmation number.
We then went to the register and they manually gave me a $300 giftcard (same proccess as the $24 24 min guarentee apparantly) and wrote the confirmation # as an attachment to the sale. They even let me buy the $50 Linksys adapter with the giftcard.
EIther way, my math.
$180.00 12 months vonage service @ 14.99 a month
$ 30.00 Activation Fee
-----------------
$210.00
-$250.00 Remaning balance on giftcard
-$175.00 Mail in rebate
= I make $210.00 PLUS a year of Phone Service!
This assumes that I will spend the $250 at cc anyway (I will) and that the rebate comes (which I suspect it won't). Either way great deal.

It's a circuit city rebate. Why wouldn't it go through? I mean, the rebate is *through* circuit city?

Can vonage require me to stay with them and pay if they do not offer a local # in my area?
None of the prefixes are considered a local call in my area so everyone who calls me will have to dial long distance.
Also the $175 rebate clearly states that you have to purchase ALL of the products on the rebate to get $175, however thats not how its worded in the ad. This might be tough to pull off.
Edit: I suppose it can be read that its $175 if you purchase a phone from the list of all the following qualifying phones. Although if thats the case it should have said ANY and not ALL.

I really want to jump on this deal. I currently live in Missouri and will be moving to different state in a month. Does anyone know if it is easy to change the phone number later with vonage. Also please someone explain the procedure,
Go to circuit city, sign up for vonage, get $300 gift certificate, we pay $180 + tax to vonage, get Linksys router and get mail in rebate for the router. Does anyone know if there is anything else that i need to get the service to work or anything else i need to aware of,
Appreciate your help,
thanks

Sure, if you love the hassles of not having phone service and switching to another provider. Ever heard of SunRocket? Ask the people on that thread how they are loving the fact their VOIP went out of business and all the aggravation they now have. If you want to chance it go ahead, be my guest.

This deal reminds me of Jedi mind tricks or something.
The only way this is a slickdeal is if you actually DONT want the voip service, and vonage actually DOES go bankrupt and out of business.
See how it is actually the reverse of what normal companies/deals/products are?
Same with their customer service, normally customer services tries to HELP the customer, instead Vonage customer service tries to find Wile E. Coyote, Acme branded ways of SCREWING the customer.
^
Advice from a long term vonage customer after being screwed by replacing my router that was defective for "free." Yea... long story.
Another thing for you all to do if you get this plan, there is actually a $9.99 plan you can get, it only has 100 outgoing minutes, but free incoming. This isnt advertised on their website, but was offered to me over the phone. So ask for that if you activate over the phone to save some more money. (If you actually dont want to make calls outgoing.)

I agreed with you on that wording.
IMO, what they are meant is the total offer is only $175 for ALL. Which means if your purchased $200, the rebates are $175 period
So, the $175 rebate is not for 1 device purchasing.

dont do it! i was with Vonage and completed my one year and then canceled because it wasnt working well, customer service was garbage and Comcast service was better. well even after one year the charged an early term fee, i was like WTF, they said there was no mistake, something about moving from NY to GA started a new year or some crap. basicly they said try and fight us. they even started charging my CC months after as a new customer and said i signed back up. then wanted to charge another term fee for canceling what i didnt sign up for. i know many people who leave and months later they start charging again. if you dont see the charges right away, this can go on for months, and they aint paying back easily.
stay away!

I think peope are completely missing this deal, the deal is the 300 buck giftcard, not vonnage, vonnage is the price of the giftcard. Anyway it doesn't matter how much vonnage sucks you make 100 bucks on the giftcard.

To those commenting that Vonage is going to go out of business: You're hearing rumors and lies.
Vonage has about $340 million in cash reserves and they're spending at most $100 million per year. So they have at least three years left of cash before they come near bankruptcy. Their losses are shrinking, too. So they might have even more time on their hands.
Basically, don't listen to the media on the Verizon patent case. Vonage is a great service that's being forced out of the market because it's a threat to the major telcos.

$ 30.00 Activation Fee
-----------------
$210.00
-$250.00 Remaning balance on giftcard
-$175.00 Mail in rebate
= I make $210.00 PLUS a year of Phone Service!
This assumes that I will spend the $250 at cc anyway (I will) and that the rebate comes (which I suspect it won't). Either way great deal.

Hi All,
Could I do this deal and just not install the phone when I get home? I mean, I don't really want Vonage but the deal is profitable. Can I just go pick up all the stuff and then just not do anything with it....well, except pay the bill each month for 12 months? I'd rather keep my landline. Just curious if this would work.

Oh really? I just raised ungodly hell at Circuit City, Waterford Lakes Orlando and got nowhere. After two hours the nerdy little manager just turns around and tells me that the payment processesing company has gone bankrupt and I am SOL. I called corporate. I called everyone. Never never never again. Of course, I said that when they stiffed me for Civ IV Beyond the sword after I paid for it online and it was really out of sock. Just to let you guys know - it's not the Vonage thing put me off. It was the attitude and lack of consideration. Two hours and they could have just said 'sorry, so sorry' made a phone call and let me go. Walked across the street and bought myself a laptop from Best Buy for $549. I hate Best Buy. They are making it harder for me to hate them.
In other words, my experience - avoid.

I just got back from The City and the deal was still valid in Buffalo, Ny at the hamburg store. It was a pure nightmare. I went in and the guy had no idea on how to sign up for it. He asked a few people and finally someone told him to goto vendor services to sign me up but the option was removed. I ended up calling up vonage to sign up Myself they called from the store. I went thru the process told the guy in store Hey do you need to speak to them. He said no so i hung up. I went up to get my gift card and Then they asked a few more people and they didnt know how to do it. They finally came up with they needed confirmation code. They called up vonage to get it they had no record of my order then transferred them to technical support. They said they were still setting up my account and to call back in 10-15 minutes. I finally just came home since i live 6 mins away and am waiting on a call from CC to go back and get my rebate.

I was in a snit  No real reason. Thank you for telling me that, btw :) Made a bad day a little better to know I'm not the only one who thinks the service at that store sucks. All I wanted was another Toshiba Sattelite. The one I have now is pre-historic (2001). The one they had at Circuit City was not a Sattelite, but had some nice specs for $599. The one at Best Buy had lower specs, but was a Sattelite, and pretty cheap (A135-S4527) at $549. I'm brand loyal with laptops. I get all my best performance on my desktop. I just wanted something up to date, with internal wifi, decent storage. I am contemplating installing Ubuntu (someone else did in a review I read, and while the wifi crapped out, the rest of it seemed to boot OK).
I just don't want no bad stuff no mo'. No more Circuit City for me.

Thank you :) I totally did as I was standing in the store. Corporate even called and talked to the manager on duty, and wasn't able to resolve it. I have a case# they gave me, and a promise for them to follow up on it. I won't hold my breath. I did the same thing with the Civ VI Beyond the Sword drama, and they still have not gotten back to me yet. This struck me as 'bait and switch', which made it even worse. Earlier this morning I ordered all the stuff online - some $900 worth. A laptop, the free printer, the router, Norton and the linksys thing, just to make sure I had it all. I talked to the sales person online and they said it wouldn't be a problem. I printed a copy of the ad with the conditions on it, the rebates, everything. I had the total expectation of having a manic Slick Deal, and got shot down. The thing is, I never would have bought the stuff unless I got confirmation. The nerdy little manager (this guy is a complete skeez), after like an hour of being on the phone, and me being on my feet the whole time (there is no where to sit down in that store) looks at me and says 'where did you hear that you get a $300 giftcard for signing up with Vonage' like I was the one who had it wrong? If he would have been up front and just admitted he didn't know what was up (like some posters have mentioned) I would have been all cool with it. If I would have received any validation at all concerning the fact that it appeared I was being cheated, I would have been cool with it. But this guy chooses to get confrontational AFTER he's spent an hour reading a computer screen right in front of me. So I hand him my copy of the ad, and also point out to him that there is an orange sign in the lobby of the store advertising this deal. He takes the ad and just sort of dissappears. This is when I called corporate. He figures this out, then heads for the other side of the store. A really nice guy does try to help me out, so I guess that was the one saving grace. I can't understand a thing the girl on the phone is saying me because the connection is garbled. I ended up yelling at a Samsung rep (saw the blue shirt, assumed he was a manager) which made me feel like an ass. Then after another hour (I kid you not), after the girl at corporate has called the manager (she asked for his number. He took the call on the other side of the store so I couldn't hear what he said) she tells me I am SOL and gives me a case#.
I am considering calling the BBB and the state's attorney's office. I feel bad for other people that get caught up in this. If they can't honor the deal, take down the advertising. Or at the very least tell the CSR's that handle the website to tell you it's not going to work out.

Ive found that alot at Circuit City rather than admit they have no idea about something thats being offered they will get aggressive and confrontational and literally accuse you of trying to shop lift from their store. Issues are handled 'internally' when you deal with Best Buy or circuit City corporate. Internally basically means they never tell you what the outcome was. Did the person get fired or reprimanded or was actually anything even done. Was the notes of your call just thrown in the shredder or filed on record against the store you may never know. I have been persistent before in a complaint and got a $20 giftcard as an apology but was it really worth my time and effort to get it.
This country used to be known for its customer service and treating customers right. That all gone now. They are desperate to get you in the door buying stuff but dont want to treat you with any respect or common courtesy. They fire all the older people that still had respect for customers to increase profit and replace them with 'brainless' kids on minimum wage who dont care if they get fired since they are only working the job for the summer holidays.
Anyway for my zip the Vonage ad is still showing so I may go for this deal. My thought would be sign up for the cheapest plan $14.95. Get the $300 gift card and then go online buy the FAR adapter using a $10 off coupon and clickthrough Mypoints. That way your converting a large chunk of your Circuit city gift card intol cold hard cash. Anyone have thoughts.

I got tomorrow ad for Circuit City for Detroit MI which comes with today papers.
As someone mentioned earlier in this thread, this deal is also active from tomorrow and for the rest of the week.
Guys who was not succesful today and go tomorrow to the store and pick a Ad and ask for the deal.
The Ad clearly says 300$ instant gift card and if they dont accept it its better to complain to BBB.
But I think we can expect a Correct Notice by tomorrow morning from CC

Wow...lot of vonage haters here.
I, for one, am happy with my Vonage service. For the amount of money that I'm saving vs. a regular phone line, I'll put up with some very minor and easily correctible annoyances.
Had to make a phone call to tech support today. Very helpful guy. Turned out one of my settings had accidentally been changed. No big deal.
Now, if I could just figure how to get the $300 as an existing customer.

Weekly ads are printed 10 days in advance, sometimes earlier, that's why CC wasn't able to remove that $300 promo for this next week, Don't think that tomorrow the processing company will recover from bankruptcy. We will see error notes at all the stores officialy tomorrow the same way we've seen them today.

Quick question for all that signed up to Vonage at the stores...
Do they ask for ID?? I'm triying to get a 2nd line and maybe they already have my ID and will know that I'm already a customer.
anyways, all the terms say "with new line activation" so I assume one customer can get more than 1 line..

do what you want, but i warned you. look at the BBB site, you will see a small fraction of the issues with Vonage. over 5000 complaints, and they do not respond! and when they state that 3300 were closed, those were never answered.
Now take in consideration how many people actually go and file a complaint with the BBB, and add that to the true complaint numbers. i think thats about 10% of the truly unhappy with Vonage that have filed.
Customer Experience
Based on BBB files, this company has an unsatisfactory record with the Bureau due to unanswered and unresolved complaints. The company has resolved most complaints presented by the Bureau, however, some complaints remain unresolved or unanswered.
When evaluating complaint information, please consider the company's size and volume of business. The number of complaints filed against the company may not be as important as the type of complaints and how the company handled them.
The Bureau processed a total of 5288 complaints about this company in the last 36 months, our standard reporting period. Of the total 5288 complaints in the last 36 months, 3350 of those were closed in the last 12 months

How much can you depend on a company that takes membership fees from its member businesses and can pay to have negative comments removed. I am sure alot of the complaints are completely unjustified complaining about call quality or dropped calls when those are infact ISP issues and have nothing to do with the VOIP. People like to complain about things to whoever will listen even if it is actually their fault when something goes wrong they will blame anyone they can. I dont think BBB is a very accurate guage on the quality of a company. How many actual customers does Vonage have and how many of those 5288 complaints are from a single individual. In otherwords 5288 complaints doesnt mean 5288 seperate individuals.
Im not saying Vonage is wonderful infact its pretty crappy but trying referencing better sourves if you want to slam them.

can anybody who signed tell me if vonage put a hold for the first months charge on your card, please
thanks
CC did not give me any confirmation paper regarding signing up VOIP with Vonage thru. their store. I am wondering what i should sent with $175 MIR with beside UPC and adaptor receip.

there are alot of interesting items in this thread, but I wanna know this:
1. is there a limit on how many times you can sign up, i.e., one per address, one per person, I am thinking of signing up twice for house and home business (perhaps address is apartment 1 and apartment 2?)
2. what is the $80.00 upfront? Activation fee?
3. what equipment is necessary? I already have a cable modem with a separate, netgear, wireless router. I know i need the special phone, but anything else (i dont need a special, vonage branded router do I)?
any help is appreciated :)

1- I don't think there is any limittation as long as different address and confirmation number.
2- Phone adaptor cost + activation fee.
3- No need special equipment beside adaptor you purcharse from Circuit city. Plug adaptor after the router and you are good to go.

do you have to buy a adapter, like what if you have one already

I just got back from cc in palm springs. they had the ad on a poster right when I walked through the door but it wasn't in the flyer. after asking a guy that I wanted the 300 gc deal he came back and told me the company bankruptcy story. he told me I could get a raincheck and come back but then I showed him this slickdeal on my cellphone and we called vonage. I got it setup first month free only 30 activation and no contract but they will charge you 40 cancellation fee if u cancel in first 12 months. he gave me a conf. code then cc guy gave me 300 gc. I shopped around bought 4 ps3 games and 3 bluray movies and the linksys phone adapter with the GC. only money out of pocket was activation fee and now I have home phone again since my sunrocket finally died plus I get the 175 MIR. I kept asking how will I prove I activated in store and they told me my conf. number will serve for that so keep it with receipt.

Had to get in on this deal, but gonna wait a week or two on before doing anything with it to see how it works out here. The phone rep from Vonage said I had to sign up for the 24.99 plan plus $29.99 activation plus $39.99 cancellation if before two years(I will call to make sure this is changed). First month was free. So, I'll break even or so with this
service 30.35 per month x 11 months 333.85
router 52.99 w/tax
total 386.84
$300 instant gift card
$175 MIR (doubtful)
so either up $88 or out $86
or if I can get them to switch me to a 14.99 or cheaper plan
then I'm up either $22 or $196

just read this from the rebate form
- Service activation required and CUSTOMER must maintain Service
for 60 days to qualify for this promotional offer.
- Offer requires annual service agreement and prepayment with
credit card.
- Offer valid in USA only.
so it looks like you have to prepay to get the rebate, you dont have to prepay for the gc, right?

All right....just came back from CC and they didn't had any sign on the door showing that they are not offering this deal.
Asked the employee about the Vonage. He was aware that the third party company who deals with Vonage is bankrupt. BUT VONAGE IS NOT GOING TO BE BANKRUPT. Then he called the 1 800 number to sign up. I then signed up for 24.99/mo. No 1 year contract. 1st month free. Free activation. Free Modem. $14.95 shipping & handling & 30 days trial period so if I don't like then I can cancel it.Then she gave the confirmation number and then I handed the phone back to the CC employee but he didn't know what to do next and he got confused. The Vonage Agent also didn't about the deal. They both were on the phone for half an hour and couldn't figure out how to give $300 gift card. Finally CC employee hung up and then told me that he can't give me th $300 gift card because system won't allow me. Then I started fighting told him that if that was the case then you should have told me that first. Finally he gave me $300 gift card.

I could care less if they hound me over the phone, without my SSN# I doubt they can do anything to my credit. My roommate who lives in the same address also signed up and got the 300 bucks. $50 + tax for the router, $175 rebate to come.
Signed up for 12 months service, first month free, @ $24.99 + tax. $32.99 in activation charges and taxes. They gave me the $300 GC.
I did not prepay so if Vonage goes under I don't get stuck (yes, I am former SR customer).

I dont think your getting the rebate on the adapter since the rebate says its void with other offers. I am not entirely sure if that means other rebates on the adapter or other Vonage promotions. As you can see in my signature when i did the pap2 offer about a year ago with the rebate with CC it didnt even require activation of the phone service so I made money on it.

Correct me if i am wrong, basically the math is:
$180 - vonage + tax
$50 - adapter
$30 - activation
= $260
$300 CC gift card - $260 = $40
Did I miss anything??
Also a dump question, do we need to buy anything else other than the adapter??
Thanks,

When you cancel a credit card the credit card company closes the account and declines all charges afterwards on that account. They won't ever pay a dime after the two months. Once the acct is closed, they don't care =)

It won't work if you try to sign up. I was on the phone with several Circuit Cities as well as Vonage. They are under negotiations right now and on the verge of bankruptcy. It's in mine and it's big as life, stating it's good through the 18th. I just called the circuit city in central Orlando and asked them if they would honor the ad. I also told them about my nightmare with the East Orlando store. Strangely enough they were interested in this, and said they would not have a problem signing me up there. They also said they would have no problem sorting out my complaint against the other manager at the East Orlando store, as I do have a case number on that.
Unfortunately, their computer have crashed, so there is nothing I can do right this minute. That's OK. I can wait.

For me CC handed me phone after connecting to Vonage. After that it was all with Vonage Customer Service. CC did not even bothered to check what I did after that.
Vonage charges activation, shipping, instrument fees, 911 dialing, etc. I was waived of all that and given 2nd month free. If I refer a friend, will get another 2 months free. So by the time I start paying and they are out, I will be having $200 straight, considering even if I don't receive $175 Rebate that printed out.

The only reason to try this offer is for the CC $300 gift card but be sure to do it with a gift card credit card with a low balance. I was with Vonage last year, experienced the worst cs I have ever had in my life. They also charged me outragous cancelation fees and 4 moths after terminating service they began billing my credit card again.

Guys grab this while you can. For all who are thread crapping to make people go from this deal and may themselves go for this, let me clarify I have no problem if Vonage goes down. I will be more than happy to keep those $300 and go to another VOIP.
So for all whom their VOIP is not the most important and can afford to swich (that too ONLY IF as people are saying that Vonage might go down) go for this deal IMMEDIATELY. Money making cannot get better.

I didnt see anything about AUTO BILLING on their website? Dont they send a monthly bill? How can they just charge our CC?

You must work for a rent to own place, they do that crap all the time. That isn't credit that is just address verifications and old account stuff. All of that is public info but it it is not the credit info kept by one of the three credit bureaus.
This is correct. And it's the 3 credit bureaus that count...
This is why places like Columbia House and BMG Music don't affect your credit if you owe them $$$$. They don't take SSN#.

When you cancel a credit card the credit card company closes the account and declines all charges afterwards on that account. They won't ever pay a dime after the two months. Once the acct is closed, they don't care =)
The card is still in their system. If Vonage demonstrates that you entered into a contractual obligation for a year. Which is pretty clear then the credit card will side with them and will help them go after you and you will be paying the court costs, recovery costs and damages to.

Agreed. There is a difference between taking advantage of an offer and trying to scam the offer.

Just came back from the CC store and was not able to get the deal.
I first spoke to the sales person and he seemed to know about the deal and had me completely signed up with vonage. He then walked me to customer service where the lady said the deal was dead. Manager said that the company that was giving the gift card filled for bankruptcy.
Tried to cancel in store but apparently their cancellation dpt is closed on sundays. BUMMER
Not sure if the deal is dead nationwide.??? This was in the store in bloomingdale,IL
The Phone adapter that I was going to buy (linksys PAP2) was $49.99 before $50 MIR. Would have been a good. Also you are not required to buy the phone adapter.

I got turned down at the second store - the manager was very nice (and I called first so my feet are fine). This is the deal. Circuit City just switched over their software. Some stores have not. Yes, the payment processor is in Bankruptcy, but the deal is still good. So call first. I am on the phone with corporate right now. I will tell you guys what happens. They are trying to work it out so you can do all this online.

If CC lets you do it online its around $65 bucks. Free router , $30 for activation , $10 for shipping and 15 for the first month + taxes.
After that $15 per month plus tax. On the phone you might be able to pull off free activation and buy the router and the equipment in the store to save on shipping.
YOU DO NOT HAVE TO PREPAY for the whole year.

I just got back from Circuit City in West Jordan, Utah. It took an eternity but they have the information about the deal and they gave me the deal. I received the $300.00 gift card. I used it to pay for the adapter that did print the $175.00 MIR, but who knows if I will get that portion. The store REP had a phone number that he used to call Vonage, I then spoke with them and gave them all my info and after 20-30 minutes on the phone he gave the Circuit City REP a confirmation number. The Vonage lady I spoke to knew about the $300.00 gift card and explained that if I cancelled before the 1 year, they would charge my card for that amount. I did have to pay $51.00 for the 1st month service and the $29.99 activation. They also let me sign up for the $14.99 (500 minute) plan as well and not the $24.99 plan. So, I say I got a great deal. I need the phone service anyways as I currently have LINGO which I will change to the Vonage. So to recap. I got the deal!!! I only had to pre-pay the 1st month and NOT the whole year. I think if you sign up for the $24.99 plan, you get 1 month free. Thanks.

Thank You OP!
Just got back from CC. They had new instructions dated 8/10 on how to handle the promotion, although it took about 20 min for them to find them :) After that he called Vonage, gave them a store # and passed the phone to me. I spent the next 25 min on the phone with Vonage setting up the account, transferring #, etc. At the end he gave me a confirmation # for the gift card promotion. I then took the router up the the counter (PAP2 $49.99 with no mention of rebate on the shelf) and then waited another 35 min while the store director tried to figure out how to get me the gift card. In the end, he just gave me one out of petty cash or something and apologized for the wait. I then purchased the router $54 with tax and received a printout for another $175 rebate.
Total Paid to Vonage $51 14.99 + 30 activation plus taxes. Ongoing cost with taxes $19.21 per month for 1 year.
This is the hottest deal Ive scored in a while, epecially as a former sunrocket customer looking for a replacement.

Thats very odd because i scrolled through the new copy of the circular and didnt see the $300 CC vonage offer but thanks for posting it.
This will work great with my sunrocket free phones at least part of my Sunrocket equipment wont end up in a trash heap.
Part of that activation fee is a $9.99 Delivery charge. Isnt that for delivery of the Pap2 surely you can call in and have that waived since your buying the device instore.

ARGHHHHHHH,
just got back from CC in colonial heights, va. the floor manager okayed the process, they started the whole thing, got me on the phone with vonage, got signed up, i was happy. Took me back to customer service for the gift card, and the stupid ass CSM shut the deal down!
she said her current instructions were to take my name and number and call me back later in the week to work out the GC. I told her that if thats the case, then someone of should of stopped me before giving out my Credit card info to vonage and getting signed up. She just stonewalled me.
since i hadnt paid for the adaptor yet, i told them to keep it with my confirm number and my name and address, and i'll pay for it when they get there stuff squared away. I left PISSED.
anywho, it'll probably get worked out later, but i just needed to vent. Now they'll lose my telephone adaptor (which i gave the mac code to the vonage lady) so now when i do get it right, they'll probably sell the adaptor before i get back.

20-30 minutes on phone with Vonage. Signed up 14.99 plan with 29.99 activation. Auto pay using CC every month. Ported my land line. ETA 10 days.
Got the gift card easy. Then paid for the router using the same.
MIR printout is $175. Wont hold my breath on it. If it comes, it will be way Slick.
For Las Vegans, this deal is good until 18th August.
My phone is now plugged in and good for outgoing calls.
Thanks OP, Great Deal, repped.
Question, Can I upgrade to 24.99 plan later, without breaking my deal ? Dont know yet. Anyone?

All the Rockford, IL Circuit City brain trust would do is point to the sign posted about the bankruptcy. I tried to explain that corporate had sent out a new memo but nobody gave a sh*t. Going to contact corporate.

This is one of the rare occasions you can call. I would call and ask to speak to a manager and see if they are honoring the Vonage $300 giftcard deal and see what they say. Youll save yourself alot of gas, time and a major aggrevation if they are using the bankruptcy line to not honor it. If everything is fine and they know what they are doing on this deal as far as activation get the managers name you speak to and drive in there.
I would also order the pap2 online so you get some bonus points from an affiliate program and then pick it up in store when you go for the $300 giftcard.
I guess your stuck with a defective phone service if you cant get a good call quality and have the service up and running properly but thats the gamble you take. Try and get the $9.95 shipping fee waived after you sign up since they arent mailing you the pap2 or i guess when your in the store on the phone with them you can request it then.
Good luck Sders
This way will gain you a little bonus and save you made stress and headaches.

Pulled the trigger on this one today at Cincinnati. I have ATT Callvantage where I was paying $25 a month. Hopefully, they'll be able to port my number without any problems
The CSR had a sheet with the instructions on processing this offer. Right on top of the sheet was a statement: "We ARE honoring the $300 Vonage promotion this week".
After spending 30 mins on the phone with Vonage, I was able to get the $300 gift card without any problems. I used the card to purchase the Linksys adapter. The $175 rebate printed out along with the receipt.
If you sign up for the 24.95 plan, the first month is free. The first month's statement will be $29.95 (activation) + tax.

FOR PEOPLE WHO COULD NOT GET ON THIS DEAL
BECAUSE OF RUDE/OBNOXIOUS/STUPID Managers.
Somebody of FW mentioned the VENDOR SERVICES HELP SHEET.
Ask the manager to look at his VENDOR SERVICES HELP SHEET and they have clear instructions on how to go about this deal.
They are honoring the deal from 8/12 - 8/17.

Just got back from CC in VA, went in about 1.5 hrs before closing, came out 15 min after closing :D....I called ahead and the manager said he is honoring it, but when I get there, the manager is not there and the employees unanimously say the 'system is down' and I can't get it....Low and behold, another employee said they are still honoring it but I'll have to call..........CSR called vonage, gave store #, then took ONE HOUR to order the line, I paid $30 activation fees for the 24.99 plan with first month free and when she asked for the model/macID, I gave her the macID of the unlocked Sunrocket Linksys SPA2102r I had lying around....so I didn't have to buy an ATA.....(cheapest one was 70$ in store) ......We wrote down the confirmation code and headed to CS where they took another 30 min to figure out how to issue a gift card...All in all, HUGE HASSLE, but probably worth it (especially for someone who wants VOIP anyway or if Vonage goes out of business soon so we can keep the GC and still cancel service).....I'll downgrade to the 15$ plan later this month. Now....what to spend that $300 on???
Question: Can I still get the $175 rebate even though I didn't buy an adaptor...and is there any way to get activation fees refunded?

OK, took the plunge and ended up with what has to be the best possible deal and it wasnt intentional.
The CC CSR called Vonage and the Vonage guy asked him if I was buying a Vonage adapter from CC or from Vonage. I asked the Vonage guy what the difference was and he said I had to buy it from CC to get the CC rebate (I didnt mention the $300 giftcard) or I could buy it from Vonage for the Sunrocket deal and it would be free.
They were out of stock at CC for the PAP2 adapter so I went with the sunrocket deal. $24.99 a month, first month free, no activation fee, 30 day trial of the service and 14 days to return the Vonage adapter he said they would overnight to me.
Here is where it gets tricky... I signed up and used my Paypal debit card because I figured it would be easy to dispute anything with them if I have a problem with overcharging in the future. My total was .82 cents and he gave me a confirmation # when I was done. The CC rep wrote down my confirmation # and then issued me the gift card. HOWEVER a few things happened during the process. The first thing is that the confirmation he wrote down was not my confirmation # (he copied my 5's as S's and my 0's as O's. It shows the incorrect # on my receipt), secondly when I got home and checked my email for the confirmation I was supposed to receive along with my new vonage # I had a notice from Vonage that my paypal card has been declined. I thought I had a few bucks in the paypal acct but my wife spent it on makeup a few days earlier. Here is the email I got from Vonage.

So not only does it seem I dont have Vonage service, but the confirmation # on the CC receipt doesnt match. I assume at this point I dont have an actual account with Vonage. I dont have a Vonage telephone number nor do I think I'll receive thier adapter anytime soon. Paypal obviously isnt going to let them charge me if I have a 0 balance, so it looks like I have a free $300 giftcard. The giftcard was issued in my wifes name (her info was already in the CC computer), and my info was used on the Vonage signup. Either way I better buy that TV Ive been eyeballing soon.. just in case.

Yes you can upgrade at no charge, I made a point to ask the csr from vonage this when I placed may order
But if you downgrade from 24 to 14 they charge 9.99 fee! --- asked the rep today during signup.

They didn't tell me about a 9.99 fee for this...but even if they do so, it would be worth it. I got the first month free accepting the 24.99 deal to start with, but the 14.99 deal would have billed right from the get go.
A 9.99 fee would still have me saving $5 in the long run and allow for unlimited calling in the first month.

ALL credit to yazoo on FW
There's actully 2 Vendor Services Help Sheets...the first said we are not honoring it (which I think came out on Friday) and than a follow up (which I believe was sent on Saturday) which stated they are honoring it.....and the instructions on how to do so.
I'm not sure on the dates of these...but if they only have the initial one, ask them to check their email for an update provided a day or two later.
This happened at my store initially as I was first shot down...but than a manager found the update and my order was processed.

Hi I am currently a member of vonage in the 12th month of my contract (september 8). Do you think I can get on the deal. I do not mind paying the cancellation fee of 39.99 for me and then get the service in my wife's name. anyone thinks this would work? Would hate to let such a good deal fly past. any advice welcome

I am in a similar situation, tho I have had Vonage since Sept 2005.... Anyone tried porting over their existing Vonage number? Or can I add a line from this new deal to an existing account?

Will the $175 rebate work? CC is probably getting all of that $300 back from Vonage directly. Which basically means that Vonage already knows that we are getting these gift cards and may not honor the $175 rebate. Is anything printed on the rebate or anywhere else in the $300 gift card offer that both offers can not be combined?

This ^. That's what happened with me. It takes about 20 - 30 minutes to go through the signing process inside the store. It helps if you have the adapter in your hands as they need the MAC address to help speed the deal through. Once that is done, you get a confirmation number. Directly after that, you get your 300$ giftcard. I was able to get the deal through the Waterford Lakes store. A different manager, one that was very helpful and kind, walked me through the entire procedure.
They gave me an additional $24 for pain and suffering :lmao:
Thank you so much slick deals :) I now have a simply marvelous laptop, and a shed load of rebate forms to fill out. You were all marvelous

Well, in the fine print in the CC online ad, it says that if you cancel before the year is up you will pay the full amount of the gift card -$300- IN ADDITION to any normal cancellation fee. So I wouldn't do that.

Actually today when I tried to sign up, the lady on phone clearly told me that they are going to charge $300 to the credit card, in the event of cancellation with in one year, in addition to any cancellation fees. Also looks like Circuity City is pulling off the $175 rebate froms from the products. Today it did not print out at the counter, and also it is not listed with the product online any more.

UPDATE ON MY ORDEAL:
I was refused initially yesterday. after some calling around to other local CC that are doing the deal, this morning I referred the CSM to the other stores, she called to verify, and POOF, now I get it all:
$300 GC
52.74 paid for linksys pap2
30.74 activation/tax
first month free, then 24.99/month
$175 rebate form (wont hold my breath).
I then found a nice compaq presarion with 2gb ram, 160gb HD, windows vista home prem, for $549.99, no rebates. Guess where the GC went? :)
BTW, this should be front page material. IF you go with the 14.99 plan, plus the adaptor, you at worst break even on the money side. add in that you get phone service for a year, and it is a no brainer.

Ok so I just returned from my local Circuit City and this is what I have for you.
If you already have Vonage, go to your account information located in your online account. Change your name as well as your address temporarily. Then go to Circuit City and they will sign you up no problems. I plan to keep my old Vonage so I got the V Phone adapter which is $39.99.
They took all of my information and I gave them my PayPal credit card information. He took all the information and said I would be charged the $31.94 activation fee after we ended the call. I got the order number and we walked this information up to the customer service counter. The manager issued the card.
After I left I looked at the GC receipt and it in no way links the card to my Vonage adapter receipt. When I returned to work I had an email saying my activation fee didn't go through and I need to call to give another card number. Not sure why it didn't go through though.
So in actuality I could take the adapter back and cancel the account with no penalties and keep my $300 card.
However I want everyone to be able to Rep this deal so I plan to wait until the 18th to return it. Don't want any Vonage red flags that would cause the deal to sink.
Now that's Slick!!!

Thats what vonage customer service told me too ,It could be taken anywhere ,if it works for me with internet ,they dont care.
Can someone post the mail in rebate form
I'm taking my Vonage V-phone (little USB plug) with me if I go abroad. Customer service said I can use it anywhere in the world as long as I have internet.
So $43 for V-phone (possible rebate), $30 activation, $15/month (possible downgrade to $10/month apparently) for service and $300 GC.
Worst case, no rebate, no $10 plan, then $50 in my pocket.
Best case, $175 rebate , $10 plan, then $280 in my pocket :lmao:

As per my talks it is 1 year contract. Where did you read Terms & Conditions?
Also how can they track & take $300 from you. Vonage lady clearly told me that in case of cancellation, I will be charged $40 odd which is fine. She did record this as well.

the rep then said ok i will honor that , so i gave my name and took his name and told him i will look for him and he said he can definetely get someone to get you the GC.. now I cant wait to get it .. have been eyeing the Denon home theater system for some time now ... :-)

CC form doesn't mention stuff like MAC address unless CC is calling it "serial number"
CC also doesn't ask for Vonage account #
Either way, it should be fine. I'd go with whichever is loosest.

Hey guys,
I know many of you are hesitant to get in on this but i know from past hesitancy that thats how i lose on these things.
There isn't anything wrong with getting over on this. I went in to my CC. I told him I want to get this Vonage deal. The guy said ok we got to get a modem, they were out of the $50 one with the 175 rebate, but he said that i can get it later when they have more instock, i'm like cool. I was interested in saving some money anyway because i have Insight and i pay $40 for my cable Voip so to go to $25 is saving me 15 bucks a month.
The thing is is that I didn't want to pay anything out the door. So I told the phone guy that my "friend" didn't pay 1st Month or activation fee. The CSR was trying to get me to pay the activation because he said ok for the free 1st month and i can cancel within 30 thirty no penalty. So I flat out told him the I am not paying the activation fee because my "friend" did not. I actually called Vonage themselves to ask them some questions i had about their service anyway and the guy there told me i could get it with no activation. Anyways, I didn't pay anything upfront and after giving him the MAC Address to get it setup and they are giving me a temp number until i decide i want to port my old one over.
The guy took my CC from paypal to verify they could use it and then that was it. He gave me the Vonage order number and the CC guy took the $300 card and paid for my phone gateway thing and i have $247.25 left.
My thinking is this.
me saving 15 bucks month on something i had anyway
15 x 12 = 180 savings + 300 - modem thing = 480 - 50 = 430 in free crap and bill savings,
I feel like i stole from them but I didn't and it was totally legal. Now if they get the other modem in I can take this one back and get that one plus the $175 rebate in top. Dude got in it before its too late and all the modems are gone.
Besides if they conk out i just go back to insight. no biggie.

Here's my story:).
I have been trying to get on this deal from last Saturday and every damn store I called up in portland,OR said either their systems are down or they are no more signing up customers for vonage as the middle company has gone bankrupt. All said and done I thought forget it. I then read OP's comment saying there is a new vendor services list thats been sent with instructions from corporate to honour this promotion, so I thought let me give a last try and see if this works. I directly spoke to the store manager and told him I wanted to sign up for the vonage promotion, the manager said sure you can come down to the store and it would take few mins and we will give you the $300 gift card. As the stores close at 8PST on sunday I though let me go on monday. Before heading to the store which is like 25 miles, I thought let me speak to the manager again and see if he is honouring the promotion, so I spoke to the same store manager and then I told him I will be at the store in an hour. SO i drove all the way 25 miles, the technician at the fire dog services dialed the vonage number hook me up with the CSR, my account was setup and I got the order number. I purchased the Linksys PAP2 adapater.
Now fun part. Once I goto the register to get my gift card, the girl already knew how to process the gift card with just the order number, the technician(Fire dog services guy) didnt knew about it and was asking her how can we do it without any bar code etc, the girl said this is the way we do, bla bla. The girl asked me if I want to pay for the linksys adapater through this gift card and I said yes, and then the $175 rebate printed out and I walked happily out of the store with 250 balance on my gift card.
Thanks OP and SD.
Did anyone tried to pre-qualify for the $175 rebate?

I am glad that you were pre-qualified. Did you activate your phone service before submitting the online rebate?

I get invalid attachment specified....
Has anyone been able to do this if they are ALREADY a Vonage subscriber??? They just check if you are still subscribed after 60 days right?

It was a toss-up between Bridgewater or Phillipsburg, NJ ( I am equal distance between). Fortunately I chose Philipsburg and a nice gentleman at CC named Isaac helped me out. I was the first that had requested it at the particular store and it did take a while for them to figure the process out. But with patience and about an hour later I did get the card so all went well. Best of Luck!

thanks It was a smooth transaction in Woodbridge, NJ store. But they didnt have the PAP2, so I had to buy the linksys wireless router for $69.99. A couple of my friends also got on this deal at this store. Goodluck.
