I have recently noticed an interstitial (a type of pop-up) ad showing up in the rotation on Slickdeals. It's linked with a banner ad for some registry cleaner software. From the design of the site, it looks like Mr. Slickdeals has tried to make the ads as non-intrusive as possible, so I don't believe this is desirable. Just thought I would bring it up in case he wants to contact his ad network and have that particular ad taken out of the rotation. If the interstitial was intentional, please ignore me.

Are you sure it's an interstitial ad? Interstitial ads appear after you click on a hyperlink, but before you get to the page you actually want.

Anyhow, I checked the banner inventory and do not see any out of the ordinary. All intrusive ads should be automatically filtered.

thecooley, what browser are you using? I have heard a couple of other complaints about this ad as well, but I have not as yet seen it while surfing with Firefox, even with the adblock extension turned off.

I'm sorry, interstitial is not the correct term for this type of ad. I thought it was a term for any kind of intrusive ad that prevents you from seeing page content, but my husband has corrected me on my ad terminology. :) Maybe it's some kind of javascript nonsense that puts the ad in the middle of whatever you're looking at. To answer Raddish's question, on this computer, we use IE and Firefox. I was using IE at the time. Let me describe what it does more thouroughly.

I opened IE and went to the slickdeals.net homepage. From there I clicked Forums, then Help Me Find a Deal. The page was mostly loaded, so I began to scroll down. The page stopped scrolling, and an ad popped into the upper-right corner of the page, taking up about 25% of the viewable area. It was not in a pop-up IE window, but inside the page itself. It rambled on about how crappy my registry was, then retreated into the banner ad for registry cleaning software at the top of the page.

I think this ad has come into the rotation twice for me, so it probably does not show up too often. I wish I had thought to grab the URL out of it for easy reference. I will try surfing around on Firefox and see if it comes up for me again. I have never seen the ad in Hot Deals, it's always been in either Help Me Find a Deal or the Lounge.

EDIT: Ah ha! It just popped up again when I previewed the message! I'm still using IE though. It's a Flash ad. Here is the text in the banner: Is your computer system operating correctly? Download registry cleaner for free! Clicking on the ad takes you to this URL: http://certified-safe-downloads.com/AdServer/RegClean/Download/download.asp?Download=http://certified-safe-downloads.com/AdServer/regclean_op.exe, where it immediately tries to download the software onto your computer.

I don't know what it's called but I've been getting the same kind of "popups" you are describing. They are the same subject manner as the banner ad up in the right hand corner...

It's extremely annoying especially because my popup blocker won't catch it...

The Registry Cleaner banner ad that's sometimes at the top of the page is incredibly annoying. For those of you lucky enough to not have run into it yet, it drops down an overlay about 3/4 the size of your screen. Covers everything you're doing, reading, or typing. Pretty much unbearable. I'm sure you don't choose each individual ad yourself, but if there's any way you can choose to exclude some, that one's gotta be the first to go.

Set certified-safe-downloads.com equal to 127.0.0.1 in your Hosts file. I've never seen ANY banner ads on slickdeals, so that's my best guess.

Hmmm, so that's what that empty white space is in the very uppermost part of the page?
