When I unsub'd from GNC's far-too-frequent emails, I was presented with a 2-second survey about why I was unsub'ing, and rewarded with a $5 off $25 coupon (in-store, expiring 12/31/2008).

Exactly! If you read the fine print at the very bottom of the coupon, it says...

GNC Store: Press "1" and ENTER to record GNC Gold Card member number. Press ENTER if not a Gold Card member.

So if you're a Gold-Card member, don't tell them!
(I guess the corollary is that it IS stackable with the GC 20%-off, but only once, and the 20%-off is only applied after any other coupons.)

On a side note, has anyone else noticed the B.S. that GNC is trying to pull with its big jugs of protein?? They used to weigh 6 pounds, and have 87 servings!! Now, they only weigh 5 pounds and have 73 servings!! The ONLY "warning" they give of this bait-and-switch crap is a little "IMPROVED FORMULA!" flag to the side of the label text.

As a further slap to the face, they actually *increased* the price by 5$!!
